The operation of a pair of anode-to-anode-facing solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) via in situ catalytic partial oxidation (CPO) of n-butane was investigated. In this simple “no-chamber” setup, butane is partially oxidized by heterogeneous reactions inside the porous anodes, providing processed fuel and the heat required for SOFC operation. The cell couple yielded a power density of up to 270 mW cm−2, and the maximum total power obtained was 1.2 W with cell sizes of 13 mm × 23 mm. The maximum electrical efficiency was 1.3%. High CO concentrations of up to 1000 ppm were detected in the exhaust gas, indicating that the cell couple could not efficiently consume the complete provided fuel. A flame, lit at the exhaust, minimized the carbon monoxide level while having insignificant influence on the cell performance. Thermal insulation of the cell couple improved the output remarkably, showing the strong influence of temperature on cell performance. The two cells had a distance of only 2 mm, suggesting a potential for high volumetric power densities in multi-cell configurations for a self-sustained combined heat and power system.  相似文献

Phosphinic acid-, sulfoximine- and sulfone-based transition-state analogues were synthesized and evaluated as inhibitors of Escherichia coli gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase. These compounds have a carboxyl function at the beta-carbon to the tetrahedral central hetero atom so as to mimic the carboxyl group of the attacking cysteine in the transition state. The phosphinic acid- and the sulfoximine-based compounds were found to be potent ATP-dependent inactivators, both showing a slow-binding kinetics with overall affinities and second-order inactivation rates of one to two orders of magnitude greater than those of L-buthionine (SR)-sulfoximine (L-BSO). The sulfone was a simple reversible inhibitor without causing ATP-dependent enzyme inactivation, but its affinity toward the enzyme was still five times greater than that of L-BSO, indicating that the beta-carboxyl function plays a key role in the recognition of the inhibitors by the enzyme. The sulfoximine with (S)-beta-carbon to the sulfur was synthesized stereoselectively, and the two diastereomers with respect to the chiral sulfur atom were separated as a cyclic sulfoximine derivative. The sulfoximine with R-configuration around the sulfur served as an extremely powerful ATP-dependent inactivator with an overall inhibition constant of 39 nM and an inactivation rate of 6750 M-1 s-1, which correspond to 1260-fold higher affinity and almost 1400-fold greater inactivation rate as compared with L-BSO. The sulfoximine with (S)-sulfur was a simple reversible inhibitor with an inhibition potency comparable to that of the sulfone. The synthesis and inhibition profile of the N-phosphoryl sulfoximine is also described.  相似文献

Assessed the effect of co-occurring versus not co-occurring internalizing and externalizing behavior problems on the reasons parents reported for clinical referral of their adolescent child. Reasons for referral were coded for 181 inpatient adolescents, and parent ratings of internalizing and externalizing behavior were obtained for a general population sample of 500 adolescents. Parents concurrently reported internalizing and externalizing behavior as reasons for referral less frequently (p < .0001) than would be expected given the correlation between these two domains in the general population sample. This suggests that the presence of externalizing problems may decrease parents' concern or awareness of internalizing problems, the presence of internalizing problems may decrease parents' concern or awareness of externalizing problems, or both. Implications for the clinical referral of adolescents and for informal parental efforts at helping their children with externalizing and internalizing problems are discussed.  相似文献

Dietary effects of medium-chain triacylglycerols (MCT) and fucoxanthin (Fc) on abdominal fat weight were determined using KK-Ay obese mouse. Experimental diet contained MCT(0.9%), Fc (0.1%), or MCT (0.9%) +Fc (0.1%). The abdominal fat weight of mice fed with Fc was significantly lower than that of mice fed with MCT. Uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), a key molecule for metabolic thermogenesis, was clearly expressed in the white adipose tissue (WAT) of mice fed Fc, but little expression in that of the mice fed MCT. The anti-obesity effect of Fc was increased by mixing Fc with MCT. This increase would be due to the increase in the absorption rate of Fc by MCT.  相似文献

Product packaging is an important element for branding that directly affects product sales. We have developed a method for creating package images that better express brand perception as a way to motivate purchasing behavior and increase sales. The method works by replacing a color that gives an impression different from the brand perception with one that better expresses the brand perception and that is appropriate for the target product. Brand perceptions perceived by consumers were identified by administering a questionnaire to 160 participants. We constructed two databases: a color database of the correspondence between colors and typical adjectives representing various inner emotional states and a feature database for target products. Using these databases, we applied appropriate colors to packaging (except for areas providing information or containing the logo) to express brand perceptions more accurately. We evaluated this method by performing two experiments, one with 96 participants to determine how changing a package color changed the viewer's impression of the product and the other with seven design experts to determine how this method could help them simulate package design. The results revealed that displaying an appropriately revised package image reduced the gap between the brand perception and the impression obtained upon viewing the package image and gave design experts new ideas for package design.  相似文献

This study calculated the carbon (C) input to farmland soils in Japan in an effort to investigate the potential increase in soil C of farmland soils by proper application of crop residues (straw and root) and manure. The calculation was based on inventory and activity data obtained from statistics, literature sources and inquiry reports for the year 2005. The total C resources from crop residues and manure in Japan were 6.1 Tg C year−1 and 2.3 Tg C year−1, of which 4.9 Tg C year−1 and 1.9 Tg C year−1, respectively, were applied to farmland soil. The average C application rate was 1.7 ± 1.6 Mg C ha farmland−1 year−1 and the proportion of manure was 23 ± 26%. One scenario that improved the allocation of manure and crop residue input to farmland soil increased the average C input to farmland soil to 1.8 ± 1.3 Mg C ha farmland−1 year−1. This agricultural C flow represented only a small percentage of the global warming potential of the whole of Japan. Thus, management of C resources in the agricultural sector should focus on the sustainable use of soil rather than the C sequestration potential of soil. To improve the C flow for areas with high C input, the transportation of manure to neighboring municipalities failed to reduce the excessive amount of manure since those areas are concentrated in only a few regions. Other measures were required to reduce environmental problems due to the over-supply of manure to farmland soils. For areas with low C input, the introduction of green manure, changes in cultivation methods, and land use type itself must be considered in relation to the individual C requirements specific to land use, soil type and climate conditions.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Leg swelling is a modern‐day affliction of sedentary working women. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the intake of grape seed extract (GSE) on leg swelling in healthy Japanese women while sitting. RESULTS: Single intake trials and 14 day intake trials were held in a double‐blind, placebo‐controlled, crossover clinical study. A prolonged sedentary position was maintained for 6 h after GSE or placebo administration. Leg volume distension, increase in body extracellular fluid, and leg water were significantly suppressed in the GSE groups. CONCLUSION: The intake of GSE is a contributing factor in the inhibition of leg swelling in healthy women during prolonged sitting. © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
