A Review on the Role of miR-149-5p in the Carcinogenesis

miR-149 is an miRNA with essential roles in carcinogenesis. This miRNA is encoded by the MIR149 gene on 2q37.3. The miR-149 hairpin produces miR-149-5p and miR-149-3p, which are the “guide” and the sister “passenger” strands, respectively. Deep sequencing experiments have shown higher prevalence of miR-149-5p compared with miR-149-3p. Notably, both oncogenic and tumor suppressive roles have been reported for miR-149-5p. In this review, we summarize the impact of miR-149-5p in the tumorigenesis and elaborate mechanisms of its involvement in this process in a variety of neoplastic conditions based on three lines of evidence, i.e., in vitro, in vivo and clinical settings.     

The Emerging Role of Non-Coding RNAs in the Regulation of Virus Replication and Resultant Cellular Pathologies

Non-coding RNAs, particularly lncRNAs and miRNAs, have recently been shown to regulate different steps in viral infections and induction of immune responses against viruses. Expressions of several host and viral lncRNAs have been found to be altered during viral infection. These lncRNAs can exert antiviral function via inhibition of viral infection or stimulation of antiviral immune response. Some other lncRNAs can promote viral replication or suppress antiviral responses. The current review summarizes the interaction between ncRNAs and herpes simplex virus, cytomegalovirus, and Epstein–Barr infections. The data presented in this review helps identify viral-related regulators and proposes novel strategies for the prevention and treatment of viral infection.     

Error assessment of the estimated coefficients obtained in system identification technique

System identification technique plays an important role in many electrical devices. In this technique, an adaptive filter models the unknown system with a finite impulse response or an infinite inverse response filter. This paper concentrates on the system identification technique based on the least squares criterion and evaluates the relationship between each estimated coefficient (obtained by the adaptive filter) and its corresponding coefficient in the unknown system. By logically classifying the variables, the amount of error between these two corresponding coefficients is evaluated and precisely expressed based on the autocorrelation lags of the input signal of the system and the coefficients of the unknown system. Also, the computed error is simplified for two particular cases in which the input signal of the system is an ideal zero-mean white Gaussian noise or a windowed (short-time) zero-mean white Gaussian noise. Experimental results provided in the simulation part verify the arithmetic expressions presented in the paper.     

Modular experimental setup for real‐time analysis of emergent behavior in networks of Chua's circuits

This paper describes the design, realization and use of an analogical, fully reconfigurable experimental setup to analyze the complex dynamics of networks of chaotic circuits. It reports details of the implementation and characterization of the setup, together with representative results, showing its flexibility and potential. The setup allows to choose arbitrarily the coupling strength and interconnection structure among the circuits, the type of link and to select the parameters of the node dynamics. It has a modular structure, and it can accommodate up to 32 nodes interconnected by at most 32 links. The collective dynamics of a relatively large set of different network structures and configurations has been investigated using the setup. Synchronization, pattern formation and other interesting collective phenomena were observed experimentally, their evidence being reported here as an illustration of the potential of the proposed setup. Three-particle deterministic secure and high bit-rate direct quantum communication protocol

A scheme for deterministic secure and high bit-rate direct communication without resorting to a distinct control interval is proposed. It utilizes three entangled qubits, and presents higher bit transfer rate of information and higher security. The security of protocol is asserted by introducing a security control for each transferred bit. The protocol is investigated for a class of individual attacks and it is explicitly showed that the protocol has a high security even in the presence of channel loss.     

A Review on the Role of Non-Coding RNAs in the Pathogenesis of Myasthenia Gravis

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune condition related to autoantibodies against certain proteins in the postsynaptic membranes in the neuromuscular junction. This disorder has a multifactorial inheritance. The connection between environmental and genetic factors can be established by epigenetic factors, such as microRNAs (miRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). XLOC_003810, SNHG16, IFNG-AS1, and MALAT-1 are among the lncRNAs with a possible role in the pathoetiology of MG. Moreover, miR-150-5p, miR-155, miR-146a-5p, miR-20b, miR-21-5p, miR-126, let-7a-5p, and let-7f-5p are among miRNAs whose roles in the pathogenesis of MG has been assessed. In the current review, we summarize the impact of miRNAs and lncRNAs in the development or progression of MG.     

Education Research as Analytic Claims: The Case of Mathematics

ABSTRACT

Despite widespread calls for evidence-based research in education, this strategy has heretofore generated a surprisingly small return on the related financial investment. Some scholars have suggested that the situation follows from a mismatch between education as an assumed field of study and applied empirical research methods. This article's analysis of evidence-based recommendations in mathematics education is based on a critique that evidence-based research recommendations for classroom practice simply advance analytic claims that are conceptually connected to the particular practice under investigation.
