The aim of this study is to introduce natural‐based polymers, chitosan and starch, to design a remedial nanocomposite, comprising of cerium oxide nanoparticles and silver nanoparticles, to investigate their effects in accelerating wound healing and in wound microbial load. Cerium oxide nanoparticles synthesized in starch solution added to the colloidal dispersion of synthesized silver nanoparticles in chitosan to make a three‐component nanomaterial. Mice were anaesthetized and two parallel full‐thickness round wounds were excised under aseptic conditions with the help of sterile dermal biopsy punch. Furthermore, effects of silver‐chitosan and silver‐cerium‐chitosan nanocomposite had evaluated on rate of wound closure and collagen density and on microbial load of wound in full‐thickness model. Results showed that both silver chitosan and silver‐cerium‐chitosan had significant impact on acceleration of wound closure and collagen content and on reduction of wound microbial load in comparison with control group, which was, received no treatments. However, the silver‐cerium‐chitosan nanocomposite is more potent than silver‐chitosan group and control group in wound closure. In the present study, the microencapsulated phase change material with palmitic acid as core and inorganic SiO2 shell was successfully fabricated by a sol–gel method in alkaline medium via sodium silicate precursor. The chemical compositions, crystalloid phase, microstructure and morphology of PA@SiO2 microcapsule were studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis were used to determine the thermal properties and thermal stability of microcapsules, respectively. According to the XRD and FT-IR results, all the characteristic peaks of PA and SiO2 were observed and there is no chemical reaction between them. Scanning electron microscopy images indicated that the microcapsule synthesized in pH 11 had a perfect spherical shape with smooth surfaces compared with other samples, and transmission electron microscopy images confirm that the PA have been well encapsulated by SiO2. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis showed that the microcapsules indicated similar phase change behaviors as those of pristine PA, which melt at 67.2?°C with a latent heat of 111.2 J/g and freezing at 56.5?°C with a latent heat of 103.2 J/g. TGA analysis indicated that the thermal stability of the PA was also improved due to the protection of SiO2 shell toward the encapsulated PA.  相似文献

Effects of the particle-particle heat transfer in a gas-solid turbulent flow in a riser were evaluated. An Eulerian/Lagrangian four-way interaction formulation including the particle collisions in conjunction with the k − τ and the kθ − τθ model equations were used in the numerical simulation. Inter-particles and particle-wall interactions were accounted for with an inelastic collision model, where the restitution coefficient was evaluated for each collision. The special case when the flow initially contains two groups of hot and cold particles was treated in details. Particular attention was given to the nature of heat transfer to particles due to inter-particle interactions. The results showed that the effect of particle-particle heat transfer was more significant for smaller sizes, lower flow Reynolds numbers, and for higher loading ratios. Solid thermal properties, however, did not have a noticeable effect on the inter-particle heat transfer. The simulation results indicates that although the heat transferred to each group of hot and cold particles was significant, the mean values of gas and particle temperatures and suspension heat transfer was insensitive to the inter-particle heat transfer.  相似文献

Cloud point methodology was successfully used for the extraction of trace amounts of aluminium and zinc as a prior step to their determination by spectrofluorimetry. Aluminium and zinc react with 8-hydroxyquinoline in a surfactant solution yielding a hydrophobic complex, which then is entrapped in surfactant micelles. Optimization was performed of the variables affecting complexation and phase separation. Under the experimental conditions used, preconcentration of 25 ml of sample in the presence of 0.12% (v/v) Triton X-114 permitted the detection of 0.79 μg l−1 of aluminium and 1.2 μg l−1 of zinc, respectively. The relative standard deviation for five replicate determinations of aluminium and zinc at 40 and 100 μg l−1 concentration level, were 2.72 and 2.1%, respectively. Good recoveries in the range of 95–104% were obtained for spiked samples. The proposed method was applied to the determination of aluminium and zinc in different samples.  相似文献

One of the most important challenges in treating cancer is the invasion and the angiogenesis of cancer cells. The synthesis of green nanoparticles (NPs) and their use in therapeutic fields is one of the most effective methods with minimal side effects in cancer treatment. In this study, cytotoxic and anti‐angiogenic effects of silver NPs (AgNPs) coated with palm pollen extract [Ag–PP(NPs)] were evaluated. For this purpose, the cells were treated with NPs and then were subjected to trypan blue testing (48 h). Then, the cancer invasion was evaluated by the scratch procedure and the expressions of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor (VEGF‐R) genes were estimated using real‐time PCR assay. Also, the angiogenesis effect of the NPs was investigated with chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay. The Ag–PP(NPs) induced cytotoxicity on MCF7 cells. The findings also showed that Ag–PP(NPs) inhibit invasive cancer cells and reduce the expression of VEGF and VEGF‐R and significantly reduced the number and vessels lengths and the lengths and weights of the embryos in CAM assay. In the United States, university buildings use 17% of total non-residential building energy per year. According to the NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory), the average lifecycle of a building in a university is 42 years with an EUI (energy use intensity) of 23 kWh/m^2/y. Current building and energy codes limit the EUI to 16 kWh/m^2/y for new school buildings; this benchmark can vary depending on climate, occupancy, and other contextual factors. Although the LEED (leadership in energy and environmental design) system provides a set of guidelines to rate sustainable buildings, studies have shown that 28%-35% of the educational LEED-rated buildings use more energy than their conventional counterparts. This paper examines the issues specific to a LEED-rated design addition to an existing university building. The forum, a lecture hall expansion of to an existing building at the University of Kansas, has been proposed as environmentally friendly and energy-efficient building addition. Comfort and health aspects have been considered in the design in order to obtain LEED platinum certificate. The forum's energy performance strategies include a double-skin facade to reduce energy consumption and PV (photovoltaic) panels to generate onsite energy. This study considers various scenarios to meet NZEB (net-zero energy building) criteria and maximize energy savings. The feasibility of NZE criteria is evaluated for: (a) seasonal comparison; (b) facility occupancy; (c) PV panels' addition in relation to double skin facade. The results of NZEB approach are compared to LEED platinum requirements, based on Rol (return on investment) and PV panel's efficiency for this specific educational building.  相似文献

A mathematical model is developed by introducing a source term and using the coupled mass and energy balances based on the Luikov's system of equations. The source term is due to the surface evaporation of many particles in a solid bed. A numerical scheme based on explicit finite difference method is applied. The prediction of bulk temperature profile and moisture content from the model shows, qualitatively, the same trend as the experimental results found in literature. Additionally, parametric studies are performed to investigate the effect of different parameters such as the porosity, the heat and mass transfer coefficients and the velocity on the overall energy efficiency of the drying process. Herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSV-tk) gene therapy for brain tumors depends on ganciclovir (GCV) and its transport across the blood-brain tumor barrier (BBTB). We examined whether RMP-7, the bradykinin analog and potent BBTB permeabilizer, could enhance the efficacy of GCV treatment of brain tumors by increasing the BBTB delivery of GCV. In vitro, a significant bystander cytocidal effect of GCV was shown in mixed HSV-tk-transduced (HSV-tk+) and control vector-transduced (HSV-tk-) C6 glioma cultures. A dose-dependent cytotoxic effect of GCV on untransformed C6 cells was also shown. In vivo, rats with 100% HSV-tk+ or 100% HSV-tk- intracerebral C6 gliomas were treated for 7 days with intravenous infusions of GCV alone or with GCV and RMP-7 (2.5 microg/kg/day). The growth of HSV-tk+ and HSV-tk- gliomas decreased with increasing doses of GCV. A high dosage (100 mg of GCV/kg/day) eradicated all HSV-tk- and HSV-tk+ tumors. An intermediate dosage (5 mg of GCV/kg/day) reduced the growth of HSV-tk- gliomas by 42% if given alone, and by 88% in combination with RMP-7. A low dosage (0.5 mg of GCV/kg/day) in combination with RMP-7 enhanced the regression of HSV-tk+ gliomas by 87% compared with GCV alone. Low-dose GCV was ineffective in HSV-tk- tumors. RMP-7 increased [3H] GCV tumoral uptake by 2.6- and 1.7-fold in the tumor center and periphery, respectively. We conclude that RMP-7 could be an important adjunctive treatment for suicide gene therapy of brain tumors, while an RMP-7/GCV combination may also have a significant antitumor effect in untransfected gliomas.  相似文献

This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was performed to summarize the effect of ginger intake on weight loss, glycemic control and lipid profiles among overweight and obese subjects. We searched the following databases through November 2017: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. The relevant data were extracted and assessed for quality of the studies according to the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Data were pooled using the inverse variance method and expressed as Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) with 95% Confidence Intervals (95% CI). Heterogeneity between studies was assessed by the Cochran Q statistic and I-squared tests (I2). Overall, 14 studies were included in the meta-analyses. Fourteen RCTs with 473 subjects were included in our meta-analysis. The results indicated that the supplementation with ginger significantly decreased body weight (BW) (SMD ?0.66; 95% CI, ?1.31, ?0.01; P = 0.04), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) (SMD ?0.49; 95% CI, ?0.82, ?0.17; P = 0.003), hip ratio (HR) (SMD ?0.42; 95% CI, ?0.77, ?0.08; P = 0.01), fasting glucose (SMD ?0.68; 95% CI, ?1.23, ?0.05; P = 0.03) and insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) (SMD ?1.67; 95% CI, ?2.86, ?0.48; P = 0.006), and significantly increased HDL-cholesterol levels (SMD 0.40; 95% CI, 0.10, 0.70; P = 0.009). We found no detrimental effect of ginger on body mass index (BMI) (SMD ?0.65; 95% CI, ?1.36, 0.06; P = 0.074), insulin (SMD ?0.54; 95% CI, ?1.43, 0.35; P = 0.23), triglycerides (SMD ?0.27; 95% CI, ?0.71, 0.18; P = 0.24), total- (SMD ?0.20; 95% CI, ?0.58, 0.18; P = 0.30) and LDL-cholesterol (SMD ?0.13; 95% CI, ?0.51, 0.24; P = 0.48). Overall, the current meta-analysis demonstrated that ginger intake reduced BW, WHR, HR, fasting glucose and HOMA-IR, and increased HDL-cholesterol, but did not affect insulin, BMI, triglycerides, total- and LDL-cholesterol levels.  相似文献
