An understanding of the functional significance of the newly identified estrogen receptor (ER beta) in the brain will require definition of its expression pattern and relationship to ER alpha. Using an antibody generated against the C-terminus of rat ER beta, we report the presence of ER beta immunoreactivity in the lateral septum, medial amygdala, hippocampus and paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of ovariectomized rats. Double labelling studies in the PVN revealed that approximately 35% of oxytocin neurons located principally in the medial and lateral parvocellular divisions of the caudal PVN were immunoreactive for ER beta while vasopressin, somatostatin and magnocellular oxytocin neurons exhibited no ER beta staining with this antibody. No ER alpha immunoreactive cells were identified in the caudal PVN. These observations provide direct evidence for the differential expression of ER sub-types within neurons and indicate that ER beta may be of physiological significance in the regulation of hypothalamic parvocellular oxytocin neurons by estrogen.  相似文献

Thin layer solar drying experiments of silkworm pupae using a solar tunnel dryer were conducted under the tropical weather conditions of Mahasarakham, Thailand. The dryer consisted of a transparent glass covered flat-plate collector and a drying tunnel connected in series to supply hot air directly into the drying tunnel using a blower. During the experiments, silkworm pupae were dried to the final moisture content of 0.15 kg water kg?1 dry matter from 4.37 kg water kg?1 dry matter in 373 min at the corresponding air flow rate of 0.32 kg s?1. Ten different thin layer drying models were compared according to their coefficient of determination to estimate drying curves. The Midilli–Kucuk model precisely represents the solar tunnel drying behavior with the coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.9982. The maximum drying rate and effective moisture diffusivity were 0.6723 kg water kg?1 dry matter h?1 and 2.7696 × 10?10 m2 s?1, respectively, on the drying air flow rate of 0.32 kg s?1. A quality assessment shows that the lipid content of the dried silkworm pupae was not affected by the solar tunnel dryer. A slight decrease of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) was observed.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Frozen Section is an important diagnostic tool to determine the nature of ovarian masses. However, like other diagnostic tools, frozen section also has some pitfalls. We aimed to discuss the source and the nature of inaccuracies associated with this procedure. METHODS: In this retrospective study 360 cases of ovarian masses examined by frozen section were re-evaluated. The sensitivity, specificity and predictive values of frozen section diagnosis of ovarian tumors were calculated. The reasons for the erroneous frozen-section diagnoses were discussed. RESULTS: Overall diagnostic agreement for ovarian lesions was 94.2%. Disagreements were found in nine cases (2.5%). Diagnosis was deferred to permanent sections in 12 cases (3.3%). The sensitivity for malignant tumors was 93.1% and specificity was 99.2%. The sensitivity for benign tumors was 99.2% and specificity was 92.1%. Most problematic cases were mucinous tumors, followed by tumors resembling fibrothecomas, in addition sections without viable tissue fragments or presence of extensive hemorrhage and necrosis also obscured the frozen diagnosis. Another factor was the lack of an effective communication between the surgeon and the pathologist. CONCLUSIONS: For an effective usage of this method not only the pathologist but also the surgeons must know the pitfalls of this method and also there must be good communication between the pathologist and the surgeon. Especially deferred cases should be minimized by good communication. In fact it's an intraoperative consultation method that enables the pathologist to gather all the preoperative, intraoperative findings and to be familiar with the further treatment plan of the patient.  相似文献

This study investigated nm23 protein expression in renal cell carcinomas to determine the relationship between nm23 protein expression and grade, stage, prognosis and the cell type. 89 cases were examined by immunohistochemistry. Tubular epithelia were homogeneously stained. Cytoplasmic nm23 protein levels were reduced in renal cell carcinoma. nm23 protein levels persisted in oncocytomas, which are accepted to be benign. Cytoplasmic nm23 staining intensity did not show any correlation with stage and grade of tumor nor prognosis. Reduction in nm23 protein levels may have a role during renal cell carcinoma pathogenesis but not in progression or metastasis suppression.  相似文献
