One of the main challenges faced by mankind in the 21st century is to meet the increasing demand for energy requirements by means of a more sustainable energy supply. In countries that are net fossil fuel importers, expectation about the benefit of using alternative fuels on reducing oil imports is the primary driving force behind efforts to promote its production and use. Spain is scarce in domestic energy sources and more than 50% of the energy used is fossil fuel based. The promotion of renewable energies use is one of the principal vectors in the Spanish energy policy. Selected herbaceous crops such as Brassica carinata are currently under study as potential energy sources. Its biomass can be considered as potential feedstock to ethanol conversion by an enzymatic process due to the characteristics of its composition, rich in cellulose and hemicellulose. This paper aims to analyse the environmental performance of two ethanol-based fuel applications (E10 and E85) in a passenger car (E10 fuel: a mixture of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline by volume; E85 fuel: a mixture of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline by volume) as well as their comparison with conventional gasoline as transport fuel. Two types of functional units are applied in this study: ethanol production oriented and travelling distance oriented functional units in order to reflect the availability or not of ethanol supply. E85 seems to be the best alternative when ethanol production based functional unit is considered in terms of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and E10 in terms of non-renewable energy resources use. Nevertheless, E85 offers the best environmental performance when travelling distance oriented functional unit is assumed in both impacts. In both functional unit perspectives, the use of ethanol-based fuels reduces the global warming and fossil fuels consumption. However, the contributions to other impact indicators (e.g. acidification, eutrophication and photochemical oxidants formation) were lower for conventional gasoline.Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) procedure helps to identify the key areas in the B. carinata ethanol production life cycle where the researchers and technicians need to work to improve the environmental performance. Technological development could help in lowering both the environmental impact and the prices of the ethanol fuels.  相似文献

The interaction of the dinucleotides d(ApG) and d(ApA) with [Pd(aa)Cl(2)], where aa = L- or D-histidine or the methyl ester of L-histidine, and with [Pt(Met)Cl(2)], where Met = L-methionine was studied by (1)H and (13)C NMR and CD measurements. In the case of the L-histidine and L-histidineOMe, the reaction with d(ApG) appeared to give the bifunctional adducts Pd(L-Histidine)N1(1)N7(2) and Pd(L-HisOMe)N1(1)N7(2), but the behavior with D-histidine suggested the formation of the monofunctional adduct Pd(D-His)N7(2). The reaction of L-histidine with d(ApA) seemed to form the bimetallic adduct (L-His)PdN7(1)N7(2)Pd(L-His). The Pt(II)-L-methionine complex in both reactions with d(ApG) and d(ApA) seemed to yield mainly adducts Pt(L-Met)N7(1)N7(2) but the existence of adducts Pt(L-Met)N1(1)N7(2) cannot be ruled out.  相似文献

Through the Renewable Energies Plan 2000–2010, Spain has fixed the objective of covering 12% of the primary energy demand from renewable sources. The achievement of this objective implies an annual increase of 22.4% of the energy produced from renewable sources. In this context, the objective of this study is to determine if the electricity from biomass produced in Spain would be environmentally competitive with electricity from natural gas or from the Spanish electricity mix. For that, the environmental impacts associated to the whole life cycle of two energetic crops in Spain, Poplar and Ethiopian mustard, used for power generation were evaluated. The overall assessment includes the cultivation and collection of biomass, its transport and the processes of its energetic transformation. We calculated different scenarios of electricity production from biomass in different capacity power plants (10, 25 or 50 MW), different transport scenarios and different productivities for biomass production. Our results show that, given the assumptions of this study, Ethiopian mustard is more impacting than Poplar when used for electricity production. Also, the transportation of biomass from the field to the power plant is an important stage that has to be carefully planned in order to get the maximum amount of electricity with a minimum environmental impact. Compared to electricity from natural gas or the Spanish electricity mix, the electricity obtained from biomass is more impacting in three from six impact categories we present here.  相似文献

New sulfur analogs of the sex pheromone of the female processionary mothThaumetopoea pityocampa have been found to be effective inhibitors of the natural pheromone activity both in EAG bioassays and field tests. The structures of these analogs have been derived from replacement of the oxygen atom(s) of the acetate group by sulfur (compounds 3-5) and the olefinic moiety of the enyne function by the isosteric SCH2 group (compounds 6 and 7). The synthesis and biological activity of 3-[(Z)-12-pentadecen-10-ynylthio]-1,1,1-trifluoropropan-2-one (8), a closely related structure to the pheromone is also described.  相似文献

This paper concerns the behaviour of a structural ceramic matrix composite, SiCf-SiC, irradiated with swift xenon ions, with a fluence of up to 1015 Xe cm–2. Damaged materials were investigated by transmission electron microscopy along the beam penetration. Damages are mainly located at the fibre-matrix interfaces, where amorphous zones are evinced in the turbostratic carbon interphase, as well as in the fibres themselves. Latent tracks have also been observed in the fibre close to the fibre-matrix interface.  相似文献

The synthesis and biological activity of some analogs of (Z)-13-hexadecen-11-ynyl acetate1, the major component of the sex pheromone of the processionary mothThaumetopoea pityocampa is described. The analogs have been formally derived by structural modification of the enyne and acetate functions of the parent compound1. In field tests, trifluoroacetate ester16 and the analog,11, with fluorine substitution at the olefin site, decreased the pheromone action, whereas epoxy derivative,10, from epoxidation of the olefin moiety in1, and propionate ester15 gave synergistic activity. The formate14 had a variable effect according to the composition of the lure. Formal reduction of the enyne to give the acetylene2 was found to retain activity. Alcohols12 and13, resulting from hydrolysis of the enyne1 and acetylene2, respectively, inhibited the action of their parent compounds.Lepidoptera, Thaumetopoeidae.  相似文献

Interfaces between carbide grains in the tungsten carbide-cobalt composite have been considered. Different techniques, such as transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis have been used to characterize the orientation relationship, the nature of the planes and the chemical composition of the grain boundaries.The cobalt concentration at WC-WC grain boundaries was determined by X-ray energy selective analysis in the TEM. Cobalt profiles were performed across low-angle grain boundaries, coincidence and general grain boundaries. Cobalt segregation was found whenever dislocations were imaged in the grain-boundary plane of a low-energy grain boundary. The segregation value was compared with the segregation ratio measured in special grain boundaries characterized by a coincidence site lattice.  相似文献

SiCf–SiBC composites fabricated by Snecma Propulsion Solide (St Médard en Jalles, France) were investigated by SEM and HRTEM in the as‐received state and after creep tests performed in air, in a temperature range 1423–1573 K, under 170 and 200 MPa. These composites are reinforced by Hi‐Nicalon fibres (Nippon Carbon). A pyrocarbon interphase was first deposited on the fibres. The matrix was then deposited on the fibrous preform by several chemical vapour infiltrations (CVI). As a result the matrix is multilayered and based on the Si–B–C ternary system. This matrix is self‐sealing: this is due to the presence of boron inducing the formation of a sealant glass if the material is heated in an oxidative environment. This glass will protect fibres and fibre/matrix interphases against oxidation. Hi‐Nicalon fibres as well as the different matrix layers were studied by HRTEM and EDX. Some investigations were carried out on the creep‐tested specimens in order to characterize modifications observed in the different constituents of the composites, particularly at the interfaces between the matrix layers and at the fibre/matrix interface. It was shown that several matrix layers crystallized during the creep tests. Moreover, a thin silica layer was observed at the pyrocarbon/matrix interfaces. Differences between the behaviour of the same type of material creep tested under neutral atmosphere are discussed.  相似文献

Aminoglycoside antibiotics target the 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) bacterial A site and induce misreading of the genetic code. Point mutations of the ribosomal A site may confer resistance to aminoglycoside antibiotics. The influence of bacterial mutations (introduced by site-directed mutagenesis) on ribosomal drug susceptibility was investigated in vivo by determination of minimal inhibitory concentrations. To determine the origin of the various resistance phenotypes at a molecular level, the in vivo results were compared with the previously published crystal structures of paromomycin, tobramycin, and geneticin bound to oligonucleotides containing the minimal A site. Two regions appear crucial for binding in the A site: the single adenine residue at position 1408 and the non-Watson-Crick U1406.U1495 pair. The effects of mutations at those positions are modulated by the nature of the substituent at position 6' (either hydroxy or ammonium group) on ring I, by the number of positive charges on the antibiotic, and by the linkage between rings I and III (either 4,5 or 4,6). In particular, the analysis demonstrates: 1) that the C1409-G1491 to A1409-U1491 polymorphism (observed in 15 % of bacteria) is not associated with resistance, which indicates that it does not affect the stacking of ring I on residue 1491, 2) that the high-level resistance to 6'-NH3+ aminoglycosides exhibited by the A1408G mutation most probably results from the inability of ring I forming a pseudo base pair with G1408, which prevents its insertion inside the A site helix, and 3) that mutations of the uracil residues forming the U1406.U1495 pair either to cytosine or to adenine residues mostly confer low to moderate levels of drug resistance, whereas the U1406C/U1495A double mutation confers high-level resistance (except for neomycin), which suggests that aminoglycoside binding to the wild-type A site and its functional consequences strongly depend on a particular geometry of the U1406.U1495 pair. The relationships between the resistance phenotypes observed in vivo and the interactions described at the molecular level define the biological importance of the different structural interactions observed by X-ray crystallography studies.  相似文献
