A technique for measuring charges of relativistic nuclei in a nuclear emulsion on the PAVICOM automated facility

A technique for measuring the charges of relativistic nuclei in thick emulsion layers irradiated in a longitudinal direction is described. This technique has been implemented on the PAVICOM completely automated facility at the Lebedev Physical Institute. The calibration curves for relativistic nuclei with Z > 3 are presented. The advantages of this technique are demonstrated using charge measurements of ²⁸Si nuclear fragments as an example.     

Synthesis of sorbents based on coarsely dispersed silica gel, containing nanoparticles of Ag compounds, for localization of volatile radioactive iodine compounds from the water vapor-air medium

The paper deals with the synthesis and physicochemical properties of sorbents based on coarsely dispersed silica gel, containing 1, 2, 4, and 8 wt % nanoparticles of Ag compounds, intended for localization of volatile radioactive iodine compounds from the water vapor-air medium.     

Effect of synthesis conditions on the impurity composition of STM Almazot diamond single crystals

Diamond single crystals synthesized under various conditions have been characterized by absorption spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance. The results demonstrate that preannealing of the reaction cell materials in an argon-hydrogen mixture and the use of a metal-carbon system containing 3 wt % aluminum allow the concentration of process-related impurities in the single crystals to be reduced. The growing crystal captures more impurities in the initial stages of the process, so the impurities are concentrated in the central part of the crystal, near the seed. The concentration of the process-related impurities near the corners of the crystal is substantially lower.     

A Barker signal transmitted over an ionospheric path

A rectangular radio pulse formed on the basis of the Barker code and transmitted over a long-distance ionospheric path is considered. The character of signal distortions and the rate of their increase are analyzed. The determining effect of the initial duration and carrier frequency of the signal on its current characteristics is revealed. For the decameter wavelength band, it is shown, that, when the parameters of the problem vary within a wide range, the autocorrelation function of a Barker signal is deformed, its center maximum being preserved and substantially spread.     

Sorption of 85Sr, 137Cs, and 152Eu from solutions on mixed hexacyanoferrates of potassium and uranyl

Sorption of ⁸⁵Sr, ¹³⁷Cs, and ¹⁵²Eu from neutral and acidic solutions on mixed hexacyanoferrates of potassium and uranyl K₄(UO₂)₄[Fe(CN)₆]₃ · 4H₂O and K₂(UO₂)₅[Fe(CN)₆]₄ · 3H₂O is studied. The distribution coefficients of ⁸⁵Sr, ¹³⁷Cs, and ¹⁵²Eu between the solid phase of K₂(UO₂)₅[Fe(CN)₆]₄ · 3H₂O and the aqueous phase are determined to be 210±10, 3000±500, and 1100±250 ml g^?1, respectively, at a contacting time of 120 min. For solid K₄(UO₂)₄[Fe(CN)₆]₃ · 4H₂O, the respective values are 6670±900, 5600±300, and 3300±250 ml g^?1. The ⁸⁵Sr, ¹³⁷Cs, and ¹⁵²Eu distribution coefficients K _d between the solid K₄(UO₂)₄[Fe(CN)₆]₃ · 4H₂O and the aqueous phase decrease with decreasing pH.
