The usage of cling wraps is emerging as an easy and cost-effective approach to protect fresh-cut fruits and vegetables from dust, whilst improving visual appeal on retail counters. This study focused on developing an alternate, protein-based packaging material as a food grade cling wrap for food packaging applications. Zein-based cling wraps were produced, and their physical and mechanical characteristics were evaluated and compared with conventionally used chitosan biopolymer films and commercial synthetic polymer films. Antioxidant potential of the prepared films was studied, and the effectiveness of the developed films as anti-browning cling wraps was evaluated using studies conducted on fresh-cut apple slices at ambient conditions. Anti-browning effects were in par with polymeric counterparts; however, zein cling wraps could better prevent weight loss in apple slices. Zein-based films can be adopted as biodegradable food grade cling wraps as an alternative to chitosan and synthetic polymeric materials.  相似文献

Research dealing with early diagnosis and efficient treatment in colon cancer to improve patient''s survival is still under investigation. Chemotherapeutic agent result in high systemic toxicity due to their non‐specific actions on DNA repair and/or cell replication. Traditional medicine such as Lycopodium clavatum (LC) has been claimed to have therapeutic potentials against cancer. The present study focuses on targeted drug delivery of cationic liposomal nanoformulated LC (CL‐LC) in colon cancer cells (HCT15) and comparing the efficacy with an anti‐colon cancer drug, 7‐ethyl‐10‐hydroxy‐camptothecin (SN38) along with its nanoformulated form (CL‐SN38). The colloidal suspension of LC was made using thin film hydration method. The drugs were characterised using ultraviolet, dynamic light scattering, scanning electron microscopy, energy, dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy. In vitro drug release showed kinetics of 49 and 89% of SN38 and LC, whereas CL‐SN38 and CL‐LC showed 73 and 74% of sustained drug release, respectively. Studies on morphological changes, cell viability, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, cancer‐associated gene expression analysis of Bcl‐2, Bax, p53 by real‐time polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis of Bad and p53 protein were performed. Microglia/astrocyte and B cell neuroimmune responses are major contributors to the neurological deficits after traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI). Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) activation mechanistically links these neuroimmune mechanisms. Our objective is to use Ibrutinib, an FDA-approved BTK inhibitor, to inhibit the neuroimmune cascade thereby improving locomotor recovery after SCI. Rat models of contusive SCI, Western blot, immunofluorescence staining imaging, flow cytometry analysis, histological staining, and behavioral assessment were used to evaluate BTK activity, neuroimmune cascades, and functional outcomes. Both BTK expression and phosphorylation were increased at the lesion site at 2, 7, 14, and 28 days after SCI. Ibrutinib treatment (6 mg/kg/day, IP, starting 3 h post-injury for 7 or 14 days) reduced BTK activation and total BTK levels, attenuated the injury-induced elevations in Iba1, GFAP, CD138, and IgG at 7 or 14 days post-injury without reduction in CD45RA B cells, improved locomotor function (BBB scores), and resulted in a significant reduction in lesion volume and significant improvement in tissue-sparing 11 weeks post-injury. These results indicate that Ibrutinib exhibits neuroprotective effects by blocking excessive neuroimmune responses through BTK-mediated microglia/astroglial activation and B cell/antibody response in rat models of SCI. These data identify BTK as a potential therapeutic target for SCI.  相似文献

Ganoderma is normally dried to extend its shelf life without using chemical preservative and to concentrate the medicinal value in the fruiting body. Convective hot air drying characteristics of Ganoderma tsugae Murrill were evaluated in hot air circulated oven at different drying temperatures, sizes, and air flow rates. The drying kinetics of Ganoderma tsugae in kidney shape and slices were investigated and compared at different drying conditions. The variation of effective moisture diffusivity values at decreasing moisture contents during drying was determined from the drying data. Four well-known thin-layer drying models were fitted to the experimental data and the Midilli model was found to satisfactory describe the drying characteristics of kidney-shaped Ganoderma tsugae. Ganoderma tsugae dried at 50°C with air velocity of 1.401 ms?1 showed the highest retention of crude ganoderic acid content compared to other drying conditions.  相似文献

This paper examined the emotional reactions and actions involving cyberbullying, focusing on the cyber bullies, victims, bully-victims and bystanders. Gender analysis was conducted to examine if males and females behave and react differently. Self-administered surveys were used to gather data from a large sample of 1158 young adults, mostly university students in Malaysia (Mage?=?21.0?years; SD?=?2.16). Findings indicate the presence of cyberbullying perpetration after the schooling years, with 8% (N?=?93) bullying, 18.6% (N?=?216) victimization, 15.2% (N?=?174) bullying and victimization, and 53.4% (N?=?675) witnessing a cyberbullying incident in the past one year. Most of the bullies reported to be remorseful; however the majority did nothing after a perpetration. Most of the victims on the other hand, experienced anger, sadness and depression after a victimization with the majority claiming to have defended themselves (75%). The majority of the bully-victims regretted their actions, pitied the victims and felt angry after a cyberbullying perpetration/victimization. Bystanders mostly reported feeling pity for the victim and angry at the bullies, with the majority (61.5%) claiming to have defended the victims. However, 40% of them behaved indifferently out of fear retaliation. Finally, gender analysis revealed females to have significantly experienced more emotions than males whereas more males did nothing after a cyberbullying incident, both as victims and bystanders.  相似文献
