The study showed that desired potable water can be easily obtained by electrodialysis from fluoride-rich brackish water. Studies have been performed to defluoridate brackish water containing 3000 ppm of total dissolved solids (TDS) and 3 ppm of fluoride using electrodialysis. The behaviour of water parameters (ion contents, TDS, pH, total hardness) with electrodialysis parameters (duration, flow rate, temperature, voltages) is followed. Optimal operational conditions for obtaining desired potable water have been proposed.  相似文献

Glucose losses from potato slabs into the water during blanching at 60, 70, 80 and 90 °C were studied after 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 min. In general, an increase of temperature during the considered times produced a higher glucose loss. The apparent diffusion coefficients (D) for glucose losses from potatoes were calculated under the blanching conditions. The D-values were found to be in the range of 3 × 10?10 to 8 × 10?10 m2 · s?1 and could be related to temperature by an Arrhenius equation, having an activation energy of 29.1 kJ/mol. The results will allow the prediction of mean glucose concentration in potato tissues, and hence the overall losses incurred, after a given blanch treatment in this time and temperature range.  相似文献

Main objective of this frame work is to establish the modeling and simulation of mix convection flow along a vertically heated sheet filled with water. Two important mechanisms: magneto-hydrodynamics and porous medium are also considered within the restricted domain of the fluid flow. Temperature is controlled with the wall temperature and then mathematical model is constructed in the form of PDEs. To determine the similarity solution results are obtained via two different techniques. Numerically solutions are obtained with the help of shooting technique and then validate with the help of optimal homotopy analysis method (OHAM). Obtained analytical and numerical results are validated graphically. Effect of emerging parameters are plotted for velocity and temperature profiles. It is found that for mixed convection parameter (ξ<0), velocity profile depicts the increasing behavior for various values of power index m. However, for ξ>0, velocity profile shows the decreasing behavior with respect the parameter m. Temperature distribution in the restricted domain depicts the decreasing behavior for both m and ξ.  相似文献

The current paper presents an automatic and context sensitive system for the dynamic recognition of pain expression among the six basic facial expressions and neutral on acted and spontaneous sequences. A machine learning approach based on the Transferable Belief Model, successfully used previously to categorize the six basic facial expressions in static images [2], [61], is extended in the current paper for the automatic and dynamic recognition of pain expression from video sequences in a hospital context application. The originality of the proposed method is the use of the dynamic information for the recognition of pain expression and the combination of different sensors, permanent facial features behavior, transient features behavior, and the context of the study, using the same fusion model. Experimental results, on 2-alternative forced choices and, for the first time, on 8-alternative forced choices (i.e. pain expression is classified among seven other facial expressions), show good classification rates even in the case of spontaneous pain sequences. The mean classification rates on acted and spontaneous data reach 81.2% and 84.5% for the 2-alternative and 8-alternative forced choices, respectively. Moreover, the system performances compare favorably to the human observer rates (76%), and lead to the same doubt states in the case of blend expressions.  相似文献

Solar thermoelectric (TE) generators may potentially provide a viable alternative to photovoltaic devices for producing electrical energy from renewable sources. In this approach, the conversion of solar radiation into heat is essential to enhance the performance of TE devices, which necessitates the development of efficient solar light absorbers. Metal nanoparticles (NPs) have gained much attention in this regard because they can convert light into heat via plasmon-mediated photothermal effects. In this study, porous nanocomposites comprising polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and Au NPs are prepared. In the PDMS/Au composites, the narrow extinction spectrum of Au NPs is extended over longer wavelengths by plasmonic hybridization to promote the light absorption property of the NPs. In addition, the porous structure induces strong scattering of incident light, which further enhances the absorption efficiency of the Au NPs. Consequently, the plasmon-mediated photothermal effects of Au NPs are noticeably enhanced and increased the temperature of the PDMS/Au composites to as high as 75.7 °C under artificial solar radiation, compared to 42.1 °C without the Au NPs. By applying the PDMS/Au composites to commercial TE devices, the electrical performance of the TE devices is enhanced by approximately threefold.  相似文献

The relationship between nonverbal behavior and severity of depression was investigated by following depressed participants over the course of treatment and video recording a series of clinical interviews. Facial expressions and head pose were analyzed from video using manual and automatic systems. Both systems were highly consistent for FACS action units (AUs) and showed similar effects for change over time in depression severity. When symptom severity was high, participants made fewer affiliative facial expressions (AUs 12 and 15) and more non-affiliative facial expressions (AU 14). Participants also exhibited diminished head motion (i.e., amplitude and velocity) when symptom severity was high. These results are consistent with the Social Withdrawal hypothesis: that depressed individuals use nonverbal behavior to maintain or increase interpersonal distance. As individuals recover, they send more signals indicating a willingness to affiliate. The finding that automatic facial expression analysis was both consistent with manual coding and revealed the same pattern of findings suggests that automatic facial expression analysis may be ready to relieve the burden of manual coding in behavioral and clinical science.  相似文献

The Conant-Finkelstein reaction was applied to PVC with the aiming of replacing the chlorine atoms with iodine ones. The effect of reaction temperature with regard to the characteristics of the modified PVC was significant. Formation of a gel and degraded polymeric materials was observed when working at temperatures higher than 60 °C. The degraded polymer formed at 70 °C was insoluble and gave rise to a polyacetylene-like chain with a melting point of 60 °C. However, the reaction on PVC at lower temperatures resulted in soluble polymers which were easily amenable to spectral characterization. The molecular weights of the iodine-modified PVCs were temperature-dependent. At 40, 45, 50 and 60 °C, molecular weights lower than that of the initial PVC were measured; however, at 35, 30 and 25 °C, a gain of about 9% in molecular weight was seen. Substitution and elimination reactions occurred to different extents depending mostly on temperature. Optimal substitution was obtained at 50 °C for a reaction time of 20 h.  相似文献

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is a medicinal plant which is widely used for its pharmacological properties. In this study the phenolic composition of fenugreek crude seeds originating from Morocco has been investigated. Extraction was performed from defatted seeds by a hydromethanolic solution using an Accelerated Solvent Extractor. HPLC technique coupled to negative ion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and diode array detection was employed to identify the polyphenol in the obtained extract. The obtained results allowed the detection of 32 phenolic compounds among which various flavonoid glycosides and phenolic acids have been tentatively identified on the basis of their UV and MS spectra, and comparisons with standards when available, as well as with literature data. A systematic study of the obtained MS spectra and the observed fragmentation showed that most of the identified compounds were acylated and non-acylated flavonoids with apigenin, luteolin and kaempferol as aglycons. Hydroxycinnamic acids mostly dominated by caffeic acid derivatives were also detected. The quantitative analysis of the identified compounds showed that the phenolic composition of the studied crude fenugreek seeds was predominantly acylated and non-acylated flavone derivatives with apigenin as the main aglycon.  相似文献

Osteopetrosis is a hereditary disorder characterized by sclerotic, thick, weak, and brittle bone. The biological behavior of mesenchymal cells obtained from osteopetrosis patients has not been well-studied. Isolated mesenchymal stem/stromal cells from dental pulp (DP-MSSCs) of recently extracted deciduous teeth from osteopetrosis (OP) patients and healthy controls (HCs) were compared. We evaluated whether the dental pulp of OP patients has a population of MSSCs with similar multilineage differentiation capability to DP-MSSCs of healthy subjects. Stem/progenitor cells were characterized using immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and proteomics. Our DP-MSSCs were strongly positive for CD44, CD73, CD105, and CD90. DP-MSSCs obtained from HC subjects and OP patients showed similar patterns of proliferation and differentiation as well as gene expression. Proteomic analysis identified 1499 unique proteins with 94.3% similarity in global protein fingerprints of HCs and OP patients. Interestingly, we observed subtle differences in expressed proteins of osteopetrosis disease-related in pathways, including MAPK, ERK 1/2, PI3K, and integrin, rather than in the stem cell signaling network. Our findings of similar protein expression signatures in DP-MSSCs of HC and OP patients are of paramount interest, and further in vivo validation study is needed. There is the possibility that OP patients could have their exfoliating deciduous teeth banked for future use in regenerative dentistry.  相似文献
