This study was designed to evaluate the bacterial adhesion to five types of experimental composite-based resins and a commercial composite resin used as a control. Physicochemical surface characteristics of composite resins with and without an artificial saliva coating were measured. The relationship between the numbers of adhering cells (Streptococcus sanguis, S. mutans and S. sobrinus) and surface characteristics was analysed. The values of contact angles and the number of adhering cells were small with saliva coating. S. sanguis ATCC 10557 showed a positive correlation (r=0.835, p<0.05) with the contact angles of uncoated resins, whereas no relationship was observed for saliva-coated resins. With S. mutans Ingbritt the cell numbers adhering to resins correlated strongly (p<0.01) with the values of zeta potential of resins for either saliva coated or uncoated. Electrical repulsion forces had a strong contribution to adherence of cells such as S. mutans and S. sobrinus which show a high absolute zeta potential.  相似文献

Pulmonary vascular disease was morphometrically analyzed in 67 patients (mean age, 19 months) with isolated complete atrioventricular canal defect. Complete obstruction of the small pulmonary arterial lumen resulting from acute fibrous proliferation and atrophy of the peripheral arterial media, which were considered absolute operative contraindications, were characteristic in six patients with Down's syndrome. Morphometric analysis of medial thickness revealed that thinning of the media of the small pulmonary arteries is generally observed at around 6 months of age in patients with complete atrioventricular canal defect and that the media in patients who have complete atrioventricular canal defect and Down's syndrome was thinner than that in such patients without Down's syndrome. These results suggest that thinning of the media as a result of two factors--Down's syndrome and aging--facilitates the rapid occurrence of fibrous intimal proliferation. Therefore intracardiac repair is desirable within 6 months of life, before medial thinning, in patients with complete atrioventricular canal defect and Down's syndrome. Excluding patients with absolute operative contraindications, the scores of the index of pulmonary vascular disease in operative survivors were below 2.0 and death occurred when scores were more than 2.2. The pulmonary vascular resistances measured in room air and by the oxygen inhalation and tolazoline tests in patients with operative contraindications were more than 7.3, 3.8, and 6.6 units.m2, respectively. We thus conclude that lung biopsy should be undertaken for patients in whom pulmonary vascular resistance is beyond these values to determine the appropriateness of surgical intervention.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:  Eriocitrin (eriodictyol 7- O -β-rutinoside) is the main flavonoid in lemon fruit. In this study, eriocitrin was investigated for its lowering effect on serum and hepatic lipids in high-fat and high-cholesterol fed rats. Rats in the control group ( N = 6) were fed a 20% lard and 1% cholesterol diet for 21 d, and rats in the 0.35% eriocitrin group ( N = 6) and 0.70% eriocitrin group ( N = 6) were fed a diet supplemented with eriocitrin 0.35% and 0.70%, respectively. The content of hepatic total cholesterol and triglyceride in the eriocitrin group was no different from that of the control group. The total cholesterol, VLDL+LDL, triglyceride, and phospholipid in the serum of the 0.35% eriocitrin group showed significantly lower concentrations than the control group ( P < 0.05), although there was no difference in the HDL concentrations among the groups. The lowering effect of eriocitrin for serum total cholesterol was thought to be caused by a decrease in VLDL+LDL. The 0.35% eriocitrin group was shown to have a significant increase in excretion of fecal bile acid ( P < 0.05) and a tendency for enhanced hepatic m-RNA levels of LDL receptor in comparison with the control group.  相似文献

Attention has been increasingly paid to the partial oxidation of lower alkanes to synthesis gas, due to its intrinsic energy saving process. We studied the partial oxidation of ethane (POE) on Co loaded on various supports. The POE performance varied as follows: Y2O3, CeO2, ZrO2, La2O3  SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2 > MgO. Comparing Y2O3 and CeO2, the carbon deposition during the POE was negligible on CeO2 and therefore CeO2 was the most preferable support. By changing space velocity and O2 partial pressure, reaction mechanism of POE was studied and it was revealed that two-step mechanism was prevailing; combustion of ethane to H2O and CO2 and subsequent reforming of ethane with H2O and CO2 to synthesis gas. Co/CeO2 catalyst exhibited high and stable catalytic activity for 10 h; high ethane conversion of 18% (maximum ethane conversion 20% at O2/C2H6 = 0.2) with H2 and CO selectivities of 93 and 84%, respectively.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to estimate the effect of dietary high oleic acid oil (OA) on 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK)-induced lung tumorigenesis in mice. Diet containing 10% oil was fed to mice through experimental periods. On day 30 after NNK injection (100 mg/kg body weight, i.p.), the treatment increased the level of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) as well as proliferating cell nuclear antigen, a marker of cell proliferation in a high linoleic acid oil (LA)-fed group but not in an OA-fed group. The NNK treatment also induced the activation of an extracellular signal-regulated kinase (Erk) cascade (Erk, Mek and Raf-1) in an LA-fed group. On the other hand, OA feeding abolished the NNK-induced activation of the Erk cascade. In conjugation with these events, OA feeding reduced lung tumor incidence and tumor multiplicity (percentage of mice with tumors) in mice compared with LA feeding at the 20th experimental week. These results suggest that OA suppresses lung tumorigenesis and that this suppression is correlated with the inhibition of PGE2 production and inactivation of the Erk cascade.  相似文献

An extensive X-ray study of CeO2–Nd2O3 solid solutions was performed, and the densities of solid solutions containing various concentrations of NdO1.5 were measured using several techniques. Solid solutions containing 0–80 mol% NdO1.5 were synthesized by coprecipitation from Ce(NO3)3 and Nd(NO3)3 aqueous solutions, and the coprecipitated samples were sintered at 1400°C. A fluorite structure was observed for CeO2–NdO1.5 solid solutions with 0–40 mol% NdO1.5, which changed to a rare earth C-type structure at 45–75 mol% NdO1.5. The change in the lattice parameters of CeO2–NdO1.5 solid solutions, when plotted with respect to the NdO1.5 concentration, showed that the lattice parameters followed Vegard's law in both the fluorite and rare earth C-type regions. The maximum solubility limit for NdO1.5 in CeO2 solid solution was approximately 75 mol%. The relationship between the density and the Nd concentration indicated that the defect structure followed the anion vacancy model over the entire range (0–70 mol% NdO1.5) of solid solution.  相似文献

This study concerns a comparative study of three crosslinkers, divinylbenzene (DVB), 1,2‐bis(p,p‐vinylphenyl)ethane (BVPE), and triallyl cyanurate (TAC) crosslinked poly(ethylene‐co‐tetrafluoroethylene) (ETFE)‐based radiation‐grafted membranes, which were prepared by radiation grafting of p‐methylstyrene onto ETFE films and subsequent sulfonation. The effect of the different types and contents of the crosslinkers on the grafting and sulfonation, and the properties such as water uptake, proton conductivity, and thermal/chemical stability of the resulting polymer electrolyte membranes were investigated in detail. Introducing crosslink structure into the radiation‐grafted membranes leads to a decrease in proton conductivity due to the decrease in water uptake. The thermal stability of the crosslinked radiation‐grafted membranes is also somewhat lower than that of the noncrosslinked one. However, the crosslinked radiation‐grafted membranes show significantly higher chemical stability characterized in the 3% H2O2 at 50°C. Among the three crosslinkers, the DVB shows a most pronounced efficiency on the crosslinking of the radiation‐grafted membranes, while the TAC has no significant influence; the BVPE is a mild and effective crosslinker, showing the moderate influence between the DVB and TAC crosslinkers. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To improve the performance of air electrodes, the dependence of iron phthalocyanine (FePc) catalytic effects on preparation methods was examined. The methods used were mixture (Electrode 1), impregnation (Electrode 2) and direct synthesis (Electrode 3). Electrodes 2 and 3 showed higher potentials during cathodic polarization up to 10 mA cm–2 than Electrode 1. The rate of chemical destruction of H2O2 decreased in the order Electrode 3 > Electrode 2 > Electrode 1. Electrode 3 showed the smallest potential drop for a discharge at 10 mA cm–2, 0.09 V after 50 h. However, the potential of Electrode 2 decreased with discharge, becoming 0.09 V lower than that of Electrode 3 after a 50 h discharge at 10mA cm–2. Once the potential drop occurred, the potential was not recovered by resting or by drying the electrode. The potential drop may be caused by deactivation of FePc. One possible reason for such deactivation is the presence of H2SO4, which remained on the electrode after impregnation of the FePc-H2SO4 solution.  相似文献

Osteoarthritis of the knee (OAK) is a chronic degenerative disease and progresses with an imbalance of cytokines and macrophages in the joint. Studies regarding the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as a point-of-care treatment for OAK have reported on its effect on tissue repair and suppression of inflammation but few have reported on its effect on macrophages and macrophage polarization. Based on our clinical experience with two types of PRP kits Cellaid Serum Collection Set P type kit (leukocyte-poor-PRP) and an Autologous Protein Solution kit (APS leukocyte-rich-PRP), we investigated the concentrations of humoral factors in PRPs prepared from the two kits and the effect of humoral factors on macrophage phenotypes. We found that the concentrations of cell components and humoral factors differed between PRPs purified using the two kits; APS had a higher concentration of M1 and M2 macrophage related factors. The addition of PRP supernatants to the culture media of monocyte-derived macrophages and M1 polarized macrophages revealed that PRPs suppressed M1 macrophage polarization and promoted M2 macrophage polarization. This research is the first to report the effect of PRPs purified using commercial kits on macrophage polarization.  相似文献
