The strong tendency of organic nanoparticles to rapidly self‐assemble into highly aligned superlattices at room temperature when solution‐cast from dispersions or spray‐coated directly onto various substrates is described. The nanoparticle dispersions are stable for years. The novel precipitation process used is believed to result in molecular distances and alignments in the nanoparticles that are not normally possible. Functional organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs)—which have the same host–dopant emissive‐material composition—with process‐tunable electroluminescence have been built with these nanoparticles, indicating the presence of novel nanostructures. For example, only changing the conditions of the precipitation process changes the OLED emission from green light to yellow. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The racial impact on graft outcome is not well defined in diabetic recipients. The purpose of this study is to analyze our experience with kidney-alone (A) and kidney-pancreas (KP) transplantation in type 1 diabetic recipients and evaluate the impact of racial disparity on outcome. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: The records of 217 kidney transplants (118 KA, 99 KP) performed on type 1 diabetic patients between 1985 and 1995 at the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of Texas Medical Branch were reviewed. RESULTS: A total of 53 (31%) white patients and 15 (33%) black patients experienced at least one episode of biopsy-proven acute rejection of the renal graft (NS). Patient survival at 1, 2, and 5 years was similar in white (92, 87, 69%) and black (91, 91, 69%) patients (NS). Kidney graft survival at 1, 2, and 5 years in the KA group was 72, 62, and 42% in blacks, compared with 79, 76, and 53% in whites (NS). Kidney graft survival at 1, 2, and 5 years in the KP group was 92, 92, and 74% in blacks, compared with 83, 77, and 58% in whites (NS). Pancreas graft survival at 1, 2, and 5 years was 81, 81, and 81% in blacks, compared with 81, 75, and 62% in whites (NS). Cox regression analysis revealed that donor age > or = 40 years increased the risk of renal graft failure 6.2-fold (P = 0.0001), whereas the addition of a pancreas transplant to a kidney and a living-related transplant decreased the risk of failure of the kidney graft 0.2 (P = 0.005) and 0.1 times (P = 0.005). CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that when compared with whites, there may be a trend toward an improved kidney and pancreas graft outcome in blacks undergoing KP transplants. These findings suggest that diabetes may override the risk factors that account for the pronounced disparity in outcome observed between nondiabetic white and black recipients. 相似文献

Recent experimental observations show that metallic lithium becomes a superconductor at high pressure. Here the theoretically calculated band structure as well as the superconducting transition temperature for this metal at 247 kbar pressure are reported. The band structure was obtained using the APW method. The superconducting transition temperature determined using the band structure results agrees fairly well with that measured experimentally. 相似文献

Range images often suffer from issues such as low resolution (LR) (for low-cost scanners) and presence of missing regions due to poor reflectivity, and occlusions. Another common problem (with high quality scanners) is that of long acquisition times. In this work, we propose two approaches to counter these shortcomings. Our first proposal which addresses the issues of low resolution as well as missing regions, is an integrated super-resolution (SR) and inpainting approach. We use multiple relatively-shifted LR range images, where the motion between the LR images serves as a cue for super-resolution. Our imaging model also accounts for missing regions to enable inpainting. Our framework models the high resolution (HR) range as a Markov random field (MRF), and uses inhomogeneous MRF priors to constrain the solution differently for inpainting and super-resolution. Our super-resolved and inpainted outputs show significant improvements over their LR/interpolated counterparts. Our second proposal addresses the issue of long acquisition times by facilitating reconstruction of range data from very sparse measurements. Our technique exploits a cue from segmentation of an optical image of the same scene, which constrains pixels in the same color segment to have similar range values. Our approach is able to reconstruct range images with as little as 10% data. We also study the performance of both the proposed approaches in a noisy scenario as well as in the presence of alignment errors. 相似文献

Motion blur due to camera shake is a common occurrence. During image capture, the apparent motion of a scene point in the image plane varies according to both camera motion and scene structure. Our objective is to infer the camera motion and the depth map of static scenes using motion blur as a cue. To this end, we use an unblurred–blurred image pair. Initially, we develop a technique to estimate the transformation spread function (TSF) which symbolizes the camera shake. This technique uses blur kernels estimated at different points across the image. Based on the estimated TSF, we recover the complete depth map of the scene within a regularization framework. 相似文献

Experimental studies of particle deposition from liquid suspensions of monodispersed particles flowing past single spherical collectors were carried out and compared with theoretical results based on trajectory calculations. The experimental observations indicate the significant effect of particle flocculation and thus suggest the importance of sedimentation as a collection mechanism. The agreement between the theoretical results and the experimental data is good when the surface force interactions are favorable for collection. However, when the electrokinetic repulsion dominates in the neighborhood of the collector, the rate of collection drops rapidly, although not to zero as predicted by theory. 相似文献

In this paper, stochastic optimal strategy for unknown linear discrete‐time system quadratic zero‐sum games in input‐output form with communication imperfections such as network‐induced delays and packet losses, otherwise referred to as networked control system (NCS) zero‐sum games, relating to the H∞ optimal control problem is solved in a forward‐in‐time manner. First, the linear discrete‐time zero sum state space representation is transformed into a linear NCS in the state space form after incorporating random delays and packet losses and then into the input‐output form. Subsequently, the stochastic optimal approach, referred to as adaptive dynamic programming (ADP), is introduced which estimates the cost or value function to solve the infinite horizon optimal regulation of unknown linear NCS quadratic zero‐sum games in the presence of communication imperfections. The optimal control and worst case disturbance inputs are derived based on the estimated value function in the absence of state measurements. An update law for tuning the unknown parameters of the value function estimator is derived and Lyapunov theory is used to show that all signals are asymptotically stable (AS) and that the estimated control and disturbance signals converge to optimal control and worst case disturbances, respectively. Blends of sulfonated phenylated polytriphenylene oxide and poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐4‐vinyl pyridine) were examined by dynamic mechanical, Fourier transform infrared, and NMR techniques. A high degree of miscibility was evident from a single drop in a plot of the storage modulus versus the temperature. The presence of ionic moieties due to proton transfer from sulfonic acid to 4‐vinyl pyridine was confirmed by both NMR and IR spectroscopy studies. The coils were found to be close to one another in dimethyl sulfoxide‐d6 because the aromatic shielding effect of the phenyl rings of the phenylated polytriphenylene oxide units was observed from the upfield shift of most of the protons of poly(methyl methacrylate) in the NMR spectrum. However, the absence of cross peaks in the nuclear Overhauser and exchange spectroscopy experiments suggested that the intermolecular distance between the chains had to be larger than 4 Å. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
