In polyolefin processes the melt index (MI) is the most important control variable indicating product quality. Because of
the difficulty in the on-line measurement of MI, a lot of MI estimation and correlation methods have been proposed. In this
work a new dynamic MI estimation scheme is developed based on system identification techniques. The empirical MI estimation
equation proposed in the present study is derived from the 1

-order dynamic models. Effectiveness of the present estimation scheme was illustrated by numerical simulations based on plant
operation data including grade change operations in high density polyethylene (HDPE) processes. From the comparisons with
other estimation methods it was found that the proposed estimation scheme showed better performance in MI predictions. The
virtual sensor model developed based on the estimation scheme was combined with the virtual on-line analyzer (VOA) to give
a quality control system to be implemented in the actual HDPE plant. From the application of the present control system, significant

Presents a model suitable for computing images of absorption cross sections of thick tissue structures illuminated at near infrared (NIR) wavelengths from tomographic projection data. Image reconstruction is accomplished by solving a system of linear equations derived from transport theory. The semicontinuous separation/concentration of two solutes with different molecular size by the size exclusion cyclic separation
method is based on the opposite swelling responses of two gels to a temperature change. Experimental results of separation
and concentration of solutes are verified qualitatively by the theoretical models based on the local equilibrium assumption.
Separation of two solutes is shown by the breakthrough curves in coupled gel columns. In closed coupled columns, the volumetric
space for the large molecules which are totally excluded from the gels becomes smaller, creating a concentrating effect as
the gels swell when temperature changes. A mechanistic model is suggested to predict the large molecule concentration to increase

A compact fiber-optic magnetometer constructed using a short piece of amorphous metal wire (5-cm long×100-μm diameter) as the magnetostrictive transducer is discussed. The inherently large ratio of length to cross-sectional area results in a low demagnetization along the axial direction. A magnetostrictive constant of 5×10-5 /Oe2, which is 10-50 times larger than the reported values for transducers made from Metglas ribbons, was measured. The fabrication of functional textiles able to provide thermal regulation and comfort for the body has attracted increasing interest in recent years. This research investigated fabric coatings containing energy absorbing, temperature stabilizing, phase‐change material microcapsules (PCMMcs), and their methods of application. Specifically, a coated fabric was directly prepared by a dual‐type coating method, in which the PCMMcs were dispersed in a polyurethane coating solution with no binder. The thermal performances of the dual‐coated samples were evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry, and their physical characteristics were examined by scanning electron microscopy, thermal vision camera, porosity, water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), and water entry pressure (WEP) analyses. Furthermore, the microclimate characteristics of the thermally enhanced fabrics were investigated under experimental conditions using a human‐clothing‐environment (HCE) simulator system. The study results confirmed the superior performance of the dual‐coated fabrics in terms of thermal regulation and body comfort, compared with those coated by the dry or wet coating method, because of the improved WEP, WVTR, and thermal performance. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Quantification of the layer dispersion degree in polymer layered silicate nanocomposites by transmission electron microscopy 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
As the performance of polymer layered silicate nanocomposites strongly depends on their interior layer dispersion, quantification of the layer dispersion degree is needed. In this work, a new methodology was developed to determine the dispersion parameter D0.1, based on the measurement of the free-path spacing distance between the single clay sheets from the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images. Several examples of exfoliated, intercalated, and immiscible composites were studied. It was found that the exfoliated composites had D0.1 over 8%, while that of intercalated composites were between 4 and 8%. In the case of intercalation, a high frequency peak appeared at a short spacing distance in the histogram, which was a characteristic of the intercalation, distinct from the exfoliation. The main utility of this TEM methodology is for the quantification of exfoliated or intercalated samples with small number of layers with stacks. The dispersion parameter D0.1 below 4% was suggested to classify as immiscible. A unique advantage of the TEM measurement is that the dispersion degree of different fillers can be counted individually. 相似文献

In this work mathematical models were developed to represent the kinetics of volume changes of fluid spaces associated with
infusion of Ringer’s solution. During infusion of Ringer’s solution, the human body is assumed to be characterized by the
two-fluid space model which has second volume space in addition to the first volume so that fluid exchanges between these
two spaces are possible. Various infusion types were tested to accommodate different medical situations. Volunteers were given
Ringer’s solution and the changes in blood hemoglobin were detected. From the comparison with experimental data, the two-fluid

The problem of environmental sustainability has been growing in recent years with an interest from both researchers and practitioners. A major gap that exists is the absence of empirical studies that addressed business value of green IS (information systems). Thus, drawing on the resource-based view of the firm and IT (information technology) business value literature, this study aims to develop a comprehensive research model of green practice-IS alignment, the key cross-functional coordination of green practices with manufacturing and marketing functions, and firm performance. The study provides a better understanding of the relationship between green practice-manufacturing coordination and green practice-marketing coordination, and how both variables mediated the relationship between green practices-IS alignment and environmental performance. The data used in this study were collected from manufacturing firms. The results show that a firm’s green practices-IS alignment had a positive effect on both green practices-manufacturing coordination and green practices-marketing coordination. In turn, both green practices-manufacturing coordination and green practices-marketing coordination are the significant predictors of environmental performance. Meanwhile, green practices-IS alignment had an indirect effect on environmental performance via both green practices-manufacturing coordination and green practices-marketing coordination. Moreover, the findings of this study show that environmental performance is an important predictor of economic performance. 相似文献
