The work presented in this paper shows how the association of proprioceptive and exteroceptive stimuli can enable a Kohonen neural network, controlling a robot arm, to learn hand-eye co-ordination so that the arm can reach for and track a visually presented target. The approach presented in this work assumes no a priorimodel of arm kinematics or of the imaging characteristics of the cameras. No explicit representation, such as homogeneous transformations, is used for the specification of robot pose, and camera calibration and triangulation are done implicitly as the system adapts and learns its hand-eye co-ordination by experience. This research is validated on physical devices and not by simulation.  相似文献

We have used spectroscopic ellipsometry to perform real-time monitoring during metalorganic chemical vapor deposition growth of AlGaAs (on GaAs) and InGaAs (on GaAs and InP). Optical constants for these materials were obtained up to growth temperatures of 600 to 700°C. This information permits real-time extraction of composition and layer thickness from the raw ellipsometric data at sample rates on the order of 0.5 Hz. We describe closed-loop control of composition and total layer thickness on AlGaAs-based structures, including Bragg reflectors. In-situ data obtained on double-heterostructure quantum-well laser structures demonstrate that spectroscopic ellipsometry is an extremely powerful monitoring and quality-control tool, giving important real-time information on complex structures that would be difficult and time-consuming to obtain after growth.  相似文献

Studied the effects of variations in base rate (BR) information and temporal context on predictions of violence and hindsight bias (HB). 270 undergraduates estimated the likelihood of violent offenders committing another violent offense based upon fictitious case history information. Ss were given 1 of 2 population BRs of the likelihood of reoffending (30% or 70%) and a recidivism estimation question that was phrased either predictively, predictively with a given outcome of either recidivism or no recidivism, or postdictively. Although different offenders were perceived as differentially likely to reoffend, estimated likelihood of recidivism was affected by neither BR nor temporal phrasing of the estimation task. A 2nd study of 182 undergraduates, using shorter case histories, also found no BR effect. HB effects were weak and inconsistent in both studies. This survey presents an overview of the autonomous development of mental capabilities in computational agents. It does so based on a characterization of cognitive systems as systems which exhibit adaptive, anticipatory, and purposive goal-directed behavior. We present a broad survey of the various paradigms of cognition, addressing cognitivist (physical symbol systems) approaches, emergent systems approaches, encompassing connectionist, dynamical, and enactive systems, and also efforts to combine the two in hybrid systems. We then review several cognitive architectures drawn from these paradigms. In each of these areas, we highlight the implications and attendant problems of adopting a developmental approach, both from phylogenetic and ontogenetic points of view. We conclude with a summary of the key architectural features that systems capable of autonomous development of mental capabilities should exhibit  相似文献

Four actuarial instruments for the prediction of violent and sexual reoffending (the Violence Risk Appraisal Guide [VRAG], Sex Offender Risk Appraisal Guide [SORAG], Rapid Risk Assessment for Sex Offender Recidivism [RRASOR], and Static-99) were evaluated in 4 samples of sex offenders (N = 396). Although all 4 instruments predicted violent (including sexual) recidivism and recidivism known to be sexually motivated, areas under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) were consistently higher for the VRAG and the SORAG. The instruments performed better when there were fewer missing items and follow-up time was fixed, with an ROC area up to .84 for the VRAG, for example, under such favorable conditions. Predictive accuracy was higher for child molesters than for rapists, especially for the Static-99 and the RRASOR. Consistent with past research, survival analyses revealed that those offenders high in both psychopathy and sexual deviance were an especially high-risk group. Precise timing and asynchronous I/O are appealing features for many applications. Unix kernels provide such features on a per‐process basis, using signals to communicate asynchronous events to applications. Per‐process signals and timers are grossly inadequate for complex multithreaded applications that require per‐thread signals and timers that operate at finer granularity. To respond to this need, we present a scheme that integrates asynchronous (Unix) signals with user‐level threads, using the ARIADNE system as a platform. This is done with a view towards support for portable, multithreaded, and multiprotocol distributed applications, namely the CLAM (connectionless, lightweight, and multiway) communications library. In the same context, we propose the use of continuations as an efficient mechanism for reducing thread context‐switching and busy‐wait overheads in multithreaded protocols. Our proposal for integrating timers and signal‐handling mechanisms not only solves problems related to race conditions, but also offers an efficient and flexible interface for timing and signalling threads. The POEMS project is creating an environment for end-to-end performance modeling of complex parallel and distributed systems, spanning the domains of application software, runtime and operating system software, and hardware architecture. Toward this end, the POEMS framework supports composition of component models from these different domains into an end-to-end system model. This composition can be specified using a generalized graph model of a parallel system, together with interface specifications that carry information about component behaviors and evaluation methods. The POEMS Specification Language compiler will generate an end-to-end system model automatically from such a specification. The components of the target system may be modeled using different modeling paradigms and at various levels of detail. Therefore, evaluation of a POEMS end-to-end system model may require a variety of evaluation tools including specialized equation solvers, queuing network solvers, and discrete event simulators. A single application representation based on static and dynamic task graphs serves as a common workload representation for all these modeling approaches. Sophisticated parallelizing compiler techniques allow this representation to be generated automatically for a given parallel program. POEMS includes a library of predefined analytical and simulation component models of the different domains and a knowledge base that describes performance properties of widely used algorithms. The paper provides an overview of the POEMS methodology and illustrates several of its key components. The modeling capabilities are demonstrated by predicting the performance of alternative configurations of Sweep3D, a benchmark for evaluating wavefront application technologies and high-performance, parallel architectures.  相似文献
