Induction of substances with thymosin-like activity and the potentiation of interferonogenesis in the mechanism of prodigiozan inhibition of 3-methylcholanthrene-induced blastomogenesis

It is shown that prodigiosan is an inductor of synthesis of the substances with the thymosin-like activity. The suggestion about inhibition of 3-methylcholanthrene-induced blastomogenesis by prodigiosan which is mediated by the substances with the thymosin-like activity and interferon is discussed. We present the hypothetical diagram of the development of the above mentioned mechanism. The significance of the obtained findings for elaboration of the immunotherapy is discussed.     

Optical constants detection in tin dioxide nano-size layers by surface plasmon resonance investigation

Optical constants of tin dioxide nano-size layers were detected using surface plasmons resonance research technique. Squared reflectance indexes difference as well as the ones with s- and p-polarized light are measured simultaneously. Obtained in the work the refraction coefficient of the tin dioxide film gives the possibility to judge about the structural perfection of the layer and confirms that the film has significant porosity, which is created during the decomposition of the polymer materials used as structuring additives. It is shown that the resonance condition for surface plasmons may be destroyed through the interaction of surface plasmons with surface roughness potential of the film (medium dielectric properties variation).     

The course of the reparative process in patients with gastric and duodenal peptic ulcers (a clinico-statistical study)

Clinico-statistical evaluation of reparative process in 332 gastric ulcer and 294 duodenal ulcer patients revealed factors of objective value to its course. In order of significance the factors rank as follows: area of ulcer, localization, combination with certain mucosal erosions, total fasting acidity, free fasting hydrochloric acid, basal gastric secretion, cardial function, duodenogastric reflux, sex, age, number of cigarettes smoked daily. When studying treatment effects on regeneration in ulcer patients in is necessary to take into consideration basal clinico-endoscopic parameters.     

Interrelations of disorders of the endocrine and immune systems of patients with malignant melanoma

Investigations of endocrine and immune systems in melanoma patients gave evidence that such patients develop disorders of functions between thymus, on the one hand, and those of the pineal gland, pituitary, adrenal cortex and gonads, on the other, which are important in the pathogenesis of alterations in cell-mediated and humoral immune responses. The author recommends the administration to melanoma patients of either preparations of thymus itself or those with thymosin-like activity, as well as biologically active factors of the pineal gland which normalize metabolic changes in the body.     

Experiments on vertical slender flexible cylinders clamped at both ends and subjected to axial flow

Three series of experiments were conducted on vertical clamped-clamped cylinders in order to observe experimentally the dynamical behaviour of the system, and the results are compared with theoretical predictions. In the first series of experiments, the downstream end of the clamped-clamped cylinder was free to slide axially, while in the second, the downstream end was fixed; the influence of externally applied axial compression was also studied in this series of experiments. The third series of experiments was similar to the second, except that a considerably more slender, hollow cylinder was used. In these experiments, the cylinder lost stability by divergence at a sufficiently high flow velocity and the amplitude of buckling increased thereafter. At higher flow velocities, the cylinder lost stability by flutter (attainable only in the third series of experiments), confirming experimentally the existence of a post-divergence oscillatory instability, which was previously predicted by both linear and nonlinear theory. Good quantitative agreement is obtained between theory and experiment for the amplitude of buckling, and for the critical flow velocities.     

Mast cell-affinity lymphocytes as indicator cells of the forms of hemoblastoses

The formation of mastolymphocyte rosettes was used to determine that in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and bovine leukemia, unlike healthy people and animals as well as patients with solid tumours of different localization and Hodgkin's disease, a large amount of cells appear among peripheral blood lymphocytes having membrane affinity for mast cells. This may be used as an additional criterion in laboratory diagnosis of these diseases.
