While experimenting with the growth of metal-containing amorphous carbon (a-c:Me) thin films using two different growth processes, self-assembled multilayered structures were observed. One of the processes is a reactive magnetron sputter deposition process. The other process is a mass selective ion beam deposition process. Despite of the differences in the growth method and the growth condition, self-assembled multilayered thin films, consisting of alternating dark layer and bright layer, were obtained in both processes. Based on the consideration of energy for atomic diffusion in the thin films, the growth mechanism is discussed.  相似文献

We investigate call-by-value continuation-passing style transforms that pass two continuations. Altering a single variable in the translation of -abstraction gives rise to different control operators: first-class continuations; dynamic control; and (depending on a further choice of a variable) either the return statement of C; or Landin's J-operator. In each case there is an associated simple typing. For those constructs that allow upward continuations, the typing is classical, for the others it remains intuitionistic, giving a clean distinction independent of syntactic details. Moreover, those constructs that make the typing classical in the source of the CPS transform break the linearity of continuation use in the target.  相似文献

High resolution CHIRP (Compressed High Intensity Radar Pulse) seismic profiles reveal the presence of two lacustrine sediment drifts located in Lake Champlain's Juniper Deep. Both drifts are positive features composed of highly laminated sediments. Drift B sits on a basement high while Drift A is built on a trough-filling acoustically-transparent sediment unit inferred to be a mass-transport event. These drifts are oriented approximately north–south and are parallel to a steep ridge along the eastern shore of the basin. Drift A, located at the bottom of a structural trough, is classified as a confined, elongate drift that transitions northward to become a system of upslope asymmetric mudwaves. Drift B is perched atop a structural high to the west of Drift A and is classified as a detached elongate drift. Bottom current depositional control was investigated using Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) located across Drift A. Sediment cores were taken at the crest and at the edges of the Drift A and were dated. Drift source, deposition, and evolution show that these drifts are formed by a water column shear with the highest deposition occurring along its crest and western flank and began developing circa 8700–8800 year BP.  相似文献

Abstract

We report on the stress-induced growth of Au microwires out of a surrounding Au–W matrix by selective oxidation, in view of a possible application as ‘micro-Velcro’. The Au wires are extruded due to the high compressive stress in the tungsten oxide formed by oxidation of elemental W. The samples were fabricated as a thin-film materials library using combinatorial sputter deposition followed by thermal oxidation. Sizes and shapes of the Au microwires were investigated as a function of the W to Au ratio. The coherence length and stress state of the Au microwires were related to their shape and plastic deformation. Depending on the composition of the Au–W precursor, the oxidized samples showed regions with differently shaped Au microwires. The Au48W52 composition yielded wires with the maximum length to diameter ratio due to the high compressive stress in the tungsten oxide matrix. The values of wire length (35 μm) and diameter (2 μm) achieved at the Au48W52 composition are suitable for micro-Velcro applications.  相似文献

The challenge for environmental assessment tools, such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is to provide a holistic picture of the environmental impacts of a given system, while being relevant both at a global scale, i.e., for global impact categories such as climate change, and at a smaller scale, i.e., for regional impact categories such as aquatic eutrophication. To this end, the environmental mechanisms between emission and impact should be taken into account. For eutrophication in particular, which is one of the main impacts of farming systems, the fate factor of eutrophying pollutants in catchments, and particularly of nitrate, reflects one of these important and complex environmental mechanisms. We define this fate factor as: the ratio of the amount of nitrate at the outlet of the catchment over the nitrate emitted from the catchment's soils. In LCA, this fate factor is most often assumed equal to 1, while the observed fate factor is generally less than 1. A generic approach for estimating the range of variation of nitrate fate factors in a region of intensive agriculture was proposed. This approach was based on the analysis of different catchment scenarios combining different catchment types and different effective rainfalls. The evolution over time of the nitrate fate factor as well as the steady state fate factor for each catchment scenario was obtained using the INCA simulation model. In line with the general LCA model, the implications of the steady state fate factors for nitrate were investigated for the eutrophication impact result in the framework of an LCA of pig production. A sensitivity analysis to the fraction of nitrate lost as N(2)O was presented for the climate change impact category. This study highlighted the difference between the observed fate factor at a given time, which aggregates both storage and transformation processes and a "steady state fate factor", specific to the system considered. The range of steady state fate factors obtained for the study region was wide, from 0.44 to 0.86, depending primarily on the catchment type and secondarily on the effective rainfall. The sensitivity of the LCA of pig production to the fate factors was significant concerning eutrophication, but potentially much larger concerning climate change. The potential for producing improved eutrophication results by using spatially differentiated fate factors was demonstrated. Additionally, the urgent need for quantitative studies on the N(2)O/N(2) ratio in riparian zones denitrification was highlighted.  相似文献

Combinatorial magnetron sputter deposition from elemental targets was used to create Fe–B composition spread type thin film materials libraries on thermally oxidized 4-in. Si wafers. The materials libraries consisting of wedge-type multilayer thin films were annealed at 500 or 700 °C to transform the multilayers into multiphase alloys. The libraries were characterized by nuclear reaction analysis, Rutherford backscattering, nanoindentation, vibrating sample magnetometry, x-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Young''s modulus and hardness values were related to the annealing parameters, structure and composition of the films. The magnetic properties of the films were improved by annealing in a H2 atmosphere, showing a more than tenfold decrease in the coercive field values in comparison to those of the vacuum-annealed films. The hardness values increased from 8 to 18 GPa when the annealing temperature was increased from 500 to 700 °C. The appearance of Fe2B phases, as revealed by XRD and TEM, had a significant effect on the mechanical properties of the films.  相似文献

The aim of the present work is to investigate the influence of a tapered undulator on the main parameters of an free electron laser (FEL). The experiments were carried out at the Darmstadt FEL at an electron beam energy of 31 MeV and a wavelength of 7 μm. The effect of tapering depth on various important free electron laser characteristics such as the wavelength corresponding to the peak of the spectral distribution, the spectral width, the small signal gain and the electron energy extraction efficiency has been experimentally observed and quantitatively understood. It is shown for example that the wavelength shift is well described taking into account short pulse effects. Furthermore, for the first time, it has been found that for some values of the tapering depth the FEL efficiency exceeds that of the uniform undulator by more than 35% and 18% for negative and positive tapering, respectively. The experimental data of the spectral distributions for different tapering values are compared with predictions based on simulations for the interaction processes in the tapered undulator and with the experimental results recently obtained at the IR DEMO FEL at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The authors previously hypothesized that laminin beta 2 (S-laminin) plays a role in directing photoreceptor development. The aim of this study was to examine the temporal and spatial expression pattern of beta 2 laminins in rat retina to test this hypothesis. METHODS: Retinas from Sprague-Dawley rats were harvested on embryonic days (E) 14, 16, and 21, as well as on postnatal days (P) 2, 5, and 10. Cryostat sections were probed with antibodies directed against beta 2 laminin, laminin-1 (alpha 1-beta 1-gamma 1), and von Willebrand factor. RESULTS: At the onset of rod photoreceptor birth (E14), laminin beta 2 surrounds the cells of the retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE) and is present on the apical surface of the retinal neuroepithelium. At E16, laminin beta 2 persists on the apical surface of the neuroepithelium and the subjacent apical surface of the RPE. At birth, laminin beta 2 fills the matrix between the juxtaposed surfaces of the RPE and neuroepithelium; moreover, laminin beta 2 immunoreactivity penetrates the neural retina. Throughout postnatal development, laminin beta 2 immunoreactivity surrounds maturing inner and outer segments. Laminin beta 2 also is found in association with blood vessels in the neural retina itself, as well as with choroidal blood vessels; in both places, it is co-localized with an endothelial marker, von Willebrand factor, and laminin-1. CONCLUSIONS: The spatial and temporal expression of laminin beta 2 is consistent with its hypothesized role in rod development. Laminin beta 2 is in a unique position to interact with mitotically active cells (in early retinal development), uncommitted progenitors (in late embryonic development), developing rods (in early postnatal development), and mature outer segments (throughout adulthood). Together with our earlier functional data, these data support our hypothesis that this molecule is an important component of the interphotoreceptor matrix.  相似文献
