Parameter identification of an induction machine with regard todependencies on saturation

This work first illustrates the basic dependencies of induction machine parameters on flux and current and describes them by simple equations. Differences of the magnetizing currents at single-phase and three-phase excitation are considered. A novel identification technique accurately determines all parameters and their dependencies on saturation from a few easy-to-perform offline measurements. It has been designed for use on traction drives with direct self control during system startup. The method has been automated and is well suited for application in the field. Optimal operating points for quasi-stationary operation are derived from the identified parameter dependencies and compared to practical measurements     

Straggling effects in a proton recoil neutron spectrometer

The influence of proton straggling on the efficiency and resolution of a combined proton recoil and time-of-flight neutron spectrometer, TANSY, is studied. The spectrometer is designed for 14 MeV neutron diagnostics at JET (Joint European Torus). Energy and angular distributions for 14 MeV protons slowing down in polyethylene foils with various thicknesses are presented. The results indicate that for a foil thickness of 1.24 mg cm⁻² about 10% of the protons lose more than twice the average energy loss. Furthermore, the angular straggling leads to a coincidence loss of 4.6 ± 0.4%.     

The birth of the concept of transaction costs: issues and controversies

This paper investigates the emergence of the concept of transactioncosts in modern economics and explores three controversial issuesof the 1970s which keep economists busy to this day: transactioncosts require a rethinking of the economic notion of efficiency,suggest switching to a comparative institutional form of analysis,and are difficult to measure. The categories of technologicalversus institutional efficiency, technological versus institutionaltransaction costs, and subjective versus objective transactioncosts are employed to clarify these issues.     

Evolutionary Adaptation of Nonlinear Dynamical Systems in Computational Neuroscience

We propose evolutionary analysis by synthesis as a powerful tool in computational neuroscience. We present applications of evolution strategies to the adaptation of dynamical systems for brain modeling. First, we compare evolutionary and gradient-based optimization of dynamic neural fields on an artificial benchmark problem. Then we adjust a few-neuron model developed for explaining our recent findings in a neurobiological experiment, in which we studied the processing of temporal sequences of stimuli in the cortex.
