We present an algorithmic solution to the robustness problem in computational geometry, called controlled linear perturbation, and demonstrate it on Minkowski sums of polyhedra. The robustness problem is how to implement real RAM algorithms accurately and efficiently using computer arithmetic. Approximate computation in floating point arithmetic is efficient but can assign incorrect signs to geometric predicates, which can cause combinatorial errors in the algorithm output. We make approximate computation accurate by performing small input perturbations, which we compute using differential calculus. This strategy supports fast, accurate Minkowski sum computation. The only prior robust implementation uses a less efficient algorithm, requires exact algebraic computation, and is far slower based on our extensive testing.  相似文献

This paper presents a nonlinear kinematic tolerance analysis algorithm for planar mechanical systems comprised of higher kinematic pairs. The part profiles consist of line and circle segments. Each part translates along a planar axis or rotates around an orthogonal axis. The part shapes and motion axes are parameterized by a vector of tolerance parameters with range limits. A system is analyzed in two steps. The first step constructs generalized configuration spaces, called contact zones, that bound the worst-case kinematic variation of the pairs over the tolerance parameter range. The zones specify the variation of the pairs at every contact configuration and reveal failure modes, such as jamming, due to changes in kinematic function. The second step bounds the worst-case system variation at selected configurations by composing the zones. Case studies show that the algorithm is effective, fast, and more accurate than a prior algorithm that constructs and composes linear approximations of contact zones.  相似文献

We prepared biodegradable polycaprolactone/cuttlebone scaffold composite by salt leaching process. In the first step, a co-continuous blend of biodegradable materials, polycaprolactone (PCL) and cuttlebone (CB), and an amount of sodium chloride salt particles were mixed using a stirrer. Next, the extraction of mineral salts using de-ionized distilled water was performed using a biodegradable PCL/CB scaffold with fully interconnected pores. Finally, the durable morphology of the scaffolds was fabricated by freeze-drying process at ?53 °C for 24 hrs in a vacuum. In addition, the quadrilateral pres ranged from about 250 to 300 ??m in diameter. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and mercury intrusion porosimeter techniques were carried out to characterize the pore morphology. By increasing the CB and sodium chloride salt particle content, the number of interconnected pores, material properties, and pore morphology were dramatically changed. The average compressive strengths (load at 50% strain) of the different porous PCL/CB scaffolds were found to decrease from 133 to about 79 (load at 50% strain, gf) with an increase in porosity. The development of a biomaterial substitute that can promote bone regeneration in massive defects has remained as a significant clinical challenge even using bone marrow cells or growth factors. Without an active, thriving cell population present throughout and stable anchored to the construct, exceptional bone regeneration does not occur. An engineered micro-channel structures scaffold within each trabecular has been designed to overcome some current limitations involving the cultivation and habitation of cells in large, volumetric scaffolds to repair massive skeletal defect. We created a scaffold with a superior fluid retention capacity that also may absorb bone marrow cells and provide growth factor-containing body fluids such as blood clots and/or serum under physiological conditions. The scaffold is composed of 3 basic structures (1) porous trabecular network (300–400 μm) similar to that of human trabecular bones, (2) micro-size channels (25–70 μm) within each trabecular septum which mimic intra-osseous channels such as Haversian canals and Volkmann’s canals with body fluid access, diffusion, nutritional supply and gas exchange, and (3) nano-size pores (100–400 nm) on the surface of each septum that allow immobilized cells to anchor. Combinatorial effects of these internal structures result in a host-adapting construct that enhances cell retention and habitation throughout the 3 cm-height and 4 cm-length bridge-shaped scaffold.  相似文献

A vector control of an induction motor by an estimated speed using an extended Kalman filter is proposed. With this method, the states are composed of stator current and rotor flux. The rotor speed is regarded as a parameter, and the composite states consist of the original states and the rotor speed. The extended Kalman filter is employed to identify the speed of an induction motor and rotor flux based on the measured quantities such as stator currents and DC link voltage. The estimated speed is used for vector control and overall speed control. Since the current control is performed at a synchronous rotating reference frame, the estimated speed information is also used for the reference frame transformation of the current controller. Computer simulations and experiments of the speed control have been carried out to test the usefulness of the speed estimation algorithm. Changes in the CO2 absorption rates and capacities of the absorbent 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP), blended with NH3 and other additives, were investigated toward performance improvement. The NH3-blended absorbent removed CO2 more efficiently than the AMP absorbent alone. However, absorbent loss through NH3 evaporation was observed under these conditions. A second absorbent, the tertiary amine triethanolamine (TEA), which has a low vapor pressure, was selected and blended with the NH3/AMP system to reduce NH3 evaporation. Its effects on NH3 loss and the absorption rate and capacity of the NH3/AMP system were investigated, and the optimum blending ratios were determined. In addition, the absorbent blend at the optimum blending ratio was compared to AMP alone and the commercially available absorbent monoethanolamine at the same weight ratio. The thermal stabilities of the absorbents, under conditions used in the CO2 absorption process, were compared by thermogravimetric analysis.  相似文献

The quantitative prediction of the dead-time effect in pulse width modulated (PWM) inverters is addressed. Through analysis and simulation it is shown that the effect results in a decrease of the fundamental component and an increase in the low-order harmonics in the output voltage of the inverter. To compensate the effect, two simple methods, which are adequate for sinusoidal PWM and memory-based PWM, respectively, are presented. Wearable medical devices are gaining popularity owing to their potential for seamless integration with the human body and long-term monitoring of physiological activity. However, conventional adhesives were developed based on the assumption of healthy adult skin and may not account for variations in skin characteristics across different species, environments, and body parts. Consequently, the adhesive strength of wearable devices may significantly differ depending on the skin surface to which they are attached, potentially causing skin damage. In this study, we developed a customized wearable-device adhesive without skin damage by analyzing the characteristics of the skin surface based on oil and water content and roughness according to different species and parts. Our findings demonstrated that increased root-mean-square roughness of the skin surface led to reduced contact area and decreased adhesion force between the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) pad and skin surface. Surprisingly, hairless skin exhibited 1.5 times higher adhesion strength than hairy skin due to stronger molecular forces resulting from the higher surface energy of the skin. Additionally, the hole-patterned PDMS pad on sweaty skin displayed improved adhesion properties compared to the cylinder-patterned PDMS pad. Therefore, customized wearable adhesives provide an effective strategy for developing skin-damage-free wearable devices.  相似文献
