Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membranes have been widely used in microfiltration and ultrafiltration because of their excellent chemical resistance and thermal properties. However, PVDF membranes have exhibited severe membrane fouling because of their hydrophobic properties. In this study, we investigated the antifouling properties of PVDF blended membranes. Antifouling PVDF blended membranes were prepared with a PVDF‐g‐poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (POEM) graft copolymer. The PVDF‐g‐POEM graft copolymer was synthesized by the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) method. The chemical structure and properties of the synthesized PVDF‐g‐POEM graft copolymer were determined by NMR, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and gel permeation chromatography. To investigate the antifouling properties of the membranes, we prepared microfiltration membranes by using the phase‐inversion method, which uses various PVDF/PVDF‐g‐POEM concentrations in dope solutions. The pure water permeabilities were obtained at various pressures. The PVDF/PVDF‐g‐POEM blended membranes exhibited no irreversible fouling in the dead‐end filtration of foulants, including bovine serum albumin, sodium alginate, and Escherichia coli broth. However, the hydrophobic PVDF membrane exhibited severe fouling in comparison with the PVDF/PVDF‐g‐POEM blended membranes. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

In this study, a fucoidan-based theranostic nanogel(CFN-gel) consisting of a fucoidan backbone, redox-responsive cleavable linker and photosensitizer is developed to achieve acti-vatable near-infrared fluorescence imaging of tumor sites and an enhanced photodynamic therapy(PDT) to induce the com-plete death of cancer cells. A CFN-gel has nanomolar a nity for P-selectin, which is overexpressed on the surface of tumor neovascular endothelial cells as well as many other cancer cells. Therefore, a CFN-gel can enhance tumor accumulation through P-selectin targeting and the enhanced permeation and retention e ect. Moreover, a CFN-gel is non-fluorescent and non-phototoxic upon its systemic administration due to the aggregation-induced self-quenching in its fluorescence and singlet oxygen generation. After internalization into cancer cells and tumor neovascular endothelial cells, its photoactivity is recovered in response to the intracellular redox potential, thereby enabling selective near-infrared fluorescence imaging and an enhanced PDT of tumors. Since a CFN-gel also shows nanomolar a nity for the vascular endothelial growth factor, it also provides a significant anti-tumor e ect in the absence of light treatment in vivo. Our study indicates that a fucoidan-based theranostic nanogel is a new theranostic material for imaging and treating cancer with high e cacy and specificity.  相似文献

The photothermal properties of gold nanorods (GNRs) provide an opportunity for the clinical application of highly efficient and tumor-specific photothermal therapy. For the effective hyperthermic ablation of tumor tissue using GNRs, it is essential to maintain a homogeneous therapeutic temperature in the target tissue during treatment. This study investigates whether the concentration of GNRs affects the distribution of the temperature increase during hyperthermal therapy. The investigation is conducted using polyacrylamide phantoms containing varying amounts of GNRs. In 0.1, 0.25, and 0.5 nM GNR-suspended phantoms, the change in temperature is relatively uniform along the depth of each phantom during laser irradiation at 2 W cm(-2) . In 1.0, 2.0, and 5.0 nM GNR-suspended phantoms, the rates of temperature increase in the deep regions of the phantoms decrease with increasing GNR concentration. At a laser irradiation of 5 W cm(-2) , the temperature of the GNR-suspended phantoms increases at a faster rate, whereas the range of GNR concentrations for maintaining the homogeneity of the temperature increase is not affected. This suggests that the concentration of GNRs is the major determinant of the depth-related temperature increase during hyperthermic ablation. Therefore, prior to the clinical application of hyperthermic ablation using GNRs, the concentration of GNRs has to be optimized to ensure a homogeneous distribution of therapeutic temperature in the targeted tissue.  相似文献

With the development of advanced and minimally invasive surgical techniques, and in view of the functional and cosmetic aspects, the need for rapid and accurate diagnosis during surgery is increasing. This study was conducted to develop a tissue diagnosis method using confocal microscopy after simple tissue staining that does not require freezing and slicing. At present, fluorescence staining with confocal microscopy is not generalized for real‐time diagnosis during surgery. In this paper, we propose a fluorescence staining method using Hoechst 33342 and Eosin that does not require tissue freezing and slicing. The proposed method can be used as part of a rapid tissue diagnosis method that is suitable for use in the operating room, although further research is required before it can be applied in clinical practice.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: In this study we tried to prepare stable water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) emulsions using polyglycerol polyricinoleate (PGPR) as a hydrophobic emulsifier and whey protein isolate (WPI) as a hydrophilic emulsifier. At first, water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions was prepared, and then 40 wt% of this W/O emulsion was homogenized with 60 wt% aqueous solution of different WPI contents (2, 4, and 6 wt% WPI) using a high-pressure homogenizer (14 and 22 MPa) to produce W/O/W emulsions. The mean size of final W/O/W droplets ranged from 3.3 to 9.9 μm in diameter depending on the concentrations of PGPR and WPI. It was shown that most of the W/O/W droplets were small (<5 μm) in size but a small population of large oil droplets (d > 20 μm) was also occasionally observed. W/O/W emulsions prepared at the homogenization pressure of 22 MPa had a larger mean droplet size than that prepared at 14 MPa, and showed a microstructure consisting of mainly approximately 6 to 7-μm droplets. When a water-soluble dye PTSA as a model ingredient was loaded in the inner water phase, all W/O/W emulsions showed a high encapsulation efficiency of the dye (>90%) in the inner water phase. Even after 2 wk of storage, >90% of the encapsulated dye still remained in the inner water phase; however, severe droplet aggregation was observed at relatively high PGPR and WPI concentrations.  相似文献

Although multifunctional upconversion imaging probes have recently attracted considerable interest in biomedical research, there are currently few methods for stabilizing these luminescent nanoprobes with oligonucleotides in biological systems. Herein, a method to robustly disperse upconversion nanoprobes in physiological buffers based on rational design and synthesis of nanoconjugates comprising hairpin‐DNA‐modified gold nanoparticles is presented. This approach imparts the upconversion nanoprobes with excellent biocompatibility and circumvents the problem of particle agglomeration. By combining single‐band anti‐Stokes near‐infrared emission and the photothermal effect mediated by the coupling of gold to upconversion nanoparticles, a simple, versatile nanoparticulate system for simultaneous deep‐tissue imaging and drug molecule release in vivo is demonstrated.  相似文献

The present study was performed to investigate the possibility of using 4-α-glucanotransferase (4αGTase)-treated starch in W/O/W emulsions to increase their encapsulation efficiency (EE) and stability. Emulsions were prepared using soybean oil, polyglycerol polyricinoleate (PGPR), 4αGTase-treated starch and Tween 20. The mean diameter of W/O/W droplets ranged from 4 to 10 μm depending on the sonication time. When the dye was loaded in the internal water phase, the emulsion prepared by sonication for 1 and 2 min showed a high EE of the dye (>90%). The W/O/W emulsion prepared by sonication for 3 min showed an EE of <90%, but this EE was improved by adding 4αGTase-treated starch to the internal water phase. 4αGTase-treated starch was added to the internal water phase of W/O/W emulsions prepared with a low concentration of PGPR, and the PGPR concentration required to maintain an EE >90% was reduced. W/O/W emulsions containing 4αGTase-treated starch also showed better stability against heating and shearing stresses. These results indicated that 4αGTase-treated starch could be used in the preparation of W/O/W emulsions, which would allow the formulation of W/O/W emulsions with a reduced surfactant concentration.  相似文献
