In this article, the non-inverting buck–boost converter and its operation modes are scrutinized. The closed-loop stability of the converter in buck and boost modes is analyzed, and the necessity of using an appropriated controller is demonstrated. Then the application of an adapted ant colony optimization to design a feedback controller is proposed, and a controller based on its existing model is tuned. Simulation and experimental results obtained from the ant colony optimization designed controller are then compared with a controller designed with the classic method. Although the simulation and experimental results prove the efficiency of the proposed control approach, a significant difference between controller behavior in practice and simulation is obvious. Finding these differences, more detailed models, including all parasitic elements, in the buck and boost modes are derived. Applying the proposed model in controller design illustrates that the desired performance of the converter can be guaranteed with a simple proportional-integral (PI) controller. The suggested ant colony-based controller is again tuned based on the more detailed model, which improves the performance of the converter system even more. Furthermore, good agreement between analytical and experimental outputs validates the accuracy of the modeling and simulation.  相似文献

The capabilities of current protein structure prediction methods have been assessed from the outcome of a set of blind tests. In comparative modeling, many of the numerical methods did not perform as well as expected, although the resulting structures are still of great practical use. The new methods of fold identification ('threading') were partially successful, and show considerable promise for the future. Except for secondary structure data, results from traditional ab initio methods were poor. A second blind prediction experiment is underway, and progress in all areas is expected.  相似文献

In our attempts to salvage massive lower-extremity injuries, even in the presence of severe peripheral vascular pathology, adequate soft-tissue coverage is no longer a limiting factor due to recent advances in microvascular composite tissue transfer. Restoration of tibial continuity without shortening has emerged as the last obstacle in the formidable task of salvaging lower extremities with grade III B and III C defects. Proposed solutions to this problem include conventional free cancellous bone-grafting applicable to small defects only, vascularized bone grafts, or shortening of the leg with subsequent elongation using the Ilizarov technique. We present our experience with 3 consecutive cases of lower-limb salvage, utilizing a new approach in which microsurgical soft-tissue reconstruction has been combined with bony reconstruction by distraction osteosynthesis. Bone transport by distraction osteosynthesis under a free flap performed while preserving the initial limb length throughout the treatment period proved to be superior to other methods in selected cases and is presented as a new technique for the management of problematic lower-limb injuries.  相似文献

The screening value of the one-hour blood xylose test, corrected for body surface area, was prospectively studied in Saudi Arabian adults and children under investigation for suspected intestinal malabsorption. Sensitivity of discrimination between patients with and without upper small bowel disease was 91%, compared to 85% for the five-hour urine xylose test. Primary small bowel disorder was rare. In a three-year review, no cases of adult coeliac disease or tropical sprue were found. The most common causes of malabsorption were intestinal tuberculosis, abdominal lymphoma and immunoproliferative small intestinal disease. Despite its acceptability as an index of proximal small bowel function, the blood xylose test alone is an inadequate screening test for any of these conditions.  相似文献

A highly reliable experimental system that consistently closed the overall water balance to within 5% was developed to study the role of a microporous layer (MPL), attached to carbon paper porous transport layer (PTL), on the water transport and performance of a standard 100 cm2 active area PEM fuel cell. Various combinations of cells were built and tested with PTLs at the electrodes using either carbon fibre paper with a MPL (SGL 10BB) or carbon fibre paper without a MPL (SGL 10BA). The net water drag coefficient at three current densities (0.3, 0.5 and 0.7 A cm−2) for two combinations of anode/cathode relative humidity (60/100% and 100/60%) and stoichiometric ratios of H2/air (1.4/3 and 1.4/2) was determined from water balance measurements. The addition of a MPL to the carbon fibre paper PTL at the cathode did not cause a statistically significant change to the overall drag coefficient although there was a significant improvement to the fuel cell performance and durability when a MPL was used at the cathode. The presence of a MPL on either electrode or on both electrodes also exhibited similar performance compared to when the MPL was placed at the cathode. These results indicate that the presence of MPL indeed improves the cell performance although it does not affect the net water drag coefficient. The correlation between cell performance and global water transport cannot be ascertained and warrants further experimental investigation.  相似文献

Fluconazole (FLZ) application as a highly successful commercial antifungal azole agent to treat the fungal infections is limited due to emergence of FLZ‐resistant candida. In this study, the potential of green synthesised silver nanoparticles (NPs) as an antifungal agent against Candida albicans fungal pathogen is investigated. The extract of ginger (Zingiber officinale) and thyme (Thymus vulgaris) plays as reducing agent, capping agent and antifungal agent. The UV–visible spectroscopy shows the peak of surface plasmon resonance of synthesised Ag NPs after a period of time. The synthesised Ag NPs are spherical, with average sizes of 12 and 18 nm based on ginger and thyme extract, respectively. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirms the adsorption of the plant extract on the surface of the as‐prepared Ag NPs. Based on the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) method against Candida albicans, the antifungal activity of as‐prepared green synthesised Ag NPs shows higher inhibitory in comparison to FLZ. In this study the entire thixocasting process was examined. The aim was to optimize the process and thus improve the quality of the as-cast part. To successfully produce a thixocast part, the choice of appropriate alloy composition, the appropriate microstructure within the billet and the appropriate heat treatment of the billets into the semisolid state were found to be critical. In order to determine the influence of the alloy composition on fraction solid, simulations using Thermocalc® were conducted. For the special microstructure of the billets the cell size was examined. To determine the characteristics of the castings the circularity, the intermetallic phases (examined with SEM) and the casting defects were investigated. An efficient approach to solve engineering optimization problems is the cuckoo search algorithm. It is a recently developed meta-heuristic optimization algorithm. Normally, the parameters of the cuckoo search are kept constant. This may result in decreasing the efficiency of the algorithm. To cope with this issue, the cuckoo search parameters should be tuned properly. In this paper, an improved cuckoo search algorithm, enhancing the accuracy and convergence rate of the cuckoo search algorithm, is presented. Then, the performance of the proposed algorithm is tested on some complex engineering optimization problems. They are four well-known reliability optimization problems, a large-scale reliability optimization problem as well as a complex system, which is a 15-unit system reliability optimization problem. Finally, the results are compared with those given by several well-known methods. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献
