We analyze travel times for automated storage/retrieval systems. In particular, we apply our travel time model to turnover-based storage systems and determine the mean and variance of dual command travel times. We present detailed numerical results for selected rack shape factors and ABC inventory profiles. We then investigate the effect of alternative rack configurations on travel time performance measures. We also show how to determine the throughput of miniload systems with turnover-based storage and exponentially distributed pick times. 相似文献

The effects of 1 microM concentrations of arachidonic acid hydroperoxide (HPETES) products of 5-, 12- and 15-lipoxygenase on Na+, K(+)-ATPase activity were investigated in synaptosomal membrane preparations from rat cerebral cortex. 5-HPETE inhibited Na+, K(+)-ATPase activity by up to 67 %. In contrast, 12-HPETE and 15-HPETE did not inhibit Na+, K(+)-ATPase activity. In addition, neither 5-HETE or LTA4 inhibited Na+, K(+)-ATPase activity. Dose-response studies indicated that 5-HPETE was a potent (IC25 = 10(-8) M) inhibitor of Na+, K(+)-ATPase activity. These findings indicate that 5-HPETE inhibits Na+, K(+)-ATPase activity by a mechanism that is dependent on the hydroperoxide position and independent of further metabolism by 5-lipoxygenase. It is proposed that 5-HPETE production by 5-lipoxygenase and subsequent inhibition of neuronal Na+, K(+)-ATPase activity may be a mechansim for modulating synaptic transmission. 相似文献

Structural engineers use design codes formulated to consider uncertainty for both reinforced concrete and structural steel
design. For a simple one-bay structural steel frame, we survey typical uncertainties and compute an interval solution for
displacements and forces. The naive solutions have large over-estimations, so we explore the Mullen-Muhanna assembly strategy,
scaling, and constraint propagation to achieve tight enclosures of the true ranges for displacements and forces in a fraction
of the CPU time typically used for simulations. That we compute tight enclosures, even for large parameter uncertainties used

In executing classical plans in the real world, small discrepancies between a planner's internal representations and the real world are unavoidable. These can conspire to cause real-world failures even though the planner is sound and, therefore, proves that a sequence of actions achieves the goal. Permissive planning, a machine learning extension to classical planning, is one response to this difficulty. The quantitation of fluorescence radiance may at first suggest the need to obtain the number of fluorophore that are responsible for the measured fluorescence radiance. This goal is beset by many difficulties since the fluorescence radiance depends on three parameters 1) the probability of absorbing a photon (molar extinction), 2) the number of fluorophores, and 3) the probability of radiative decay of the excited state (quantum yield). If we use the same fluorophore in the reference solution and the analyte then, to a good approximation, the molar extinction drops out from the comparison of fluorescence radiance and we are left with the comparison of fluorescence yield which is defined as the product of fluorophore concentration and the molecular quantum yield. The equality of fluorescence yields from two solutions leads to the notion of equivalent number of fluorophores in the two solutions that is the basis for assignment of MESF (Molecules of Equivalent Soluble Fluorophore) values. We discuss how MESF values are assigned to labeled microbeads and by extension to labeled antibodies, and how these assignments can lead to the estimate of the number of bound antibodies in flow cytometer measurements. 相似文献

The generation effect occurs if people remember items they complete from fragments better than complete items they read. Four experiments investigate two questions. When does the effect occur, and why does it do so? Targets generated in related contexts are recognized better than read targets, and they are recalled better with the contexts as cues; the contexts are recognized equally well, and the relation between the context and target is not enhanced by generation. Furthermore, generated items exceed items read in pure lists even when read ones from the mixed list are no worse than the controls. The generation effect is real; it is not an artifact. However, there is nothing special about generation. Generating is a type of encoding, and like any other type of encoding, its effects are maximal on tests that require subjects to do again whatever they did at study. Generating makes targets distinctive by contrasting them with other relatives of the context, and, as a result, the targets enjoy benefits in later discriminations within their family. The functional reanimation of paralyzed limbs has been a longstanding goal of neural prosthetic research, but clinically successful applications have been elusive. Natural voluntary limb movement requires four major elements: actuators (i.e., motor units), sensors (i.e., somatosensory afferents), commands (i.e., cerebral cortical activity), and control (i.e., integration of the previous three elements at various levels of the neuraxis). Prosthetic equivalents of each of these elements are, as yet, primitive and often cumbersome to deploy, but new technologies promise substantial improvements for all. This article focuses on one such technology, bionic neuon (BION) modular microimplants, and its relationship to alternative and complementary technologies. The challenge remains to select and integrate them into systems that can be tailored efficiently to the widely disparate needs of patients with various patterns of weakness and paralysis. 相似文献

The UK differs from may other industrialized nations in that its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from energy use have declined in recent years despite relatively rapid economic growth. In all sectors but transport, substantial reductions have already occurred in the level of carbon emissions per unit of GDP output. At the same time, a number of official and unofficial studies have pointed out that the UK has one of the largest remaining potentials amongst comparable industrialized countries for achieving further CO2 reductions through the implementation of cost-effective energy efficiency and fuel switching measures. This paper discusses past and present patterns of energy use and carbons emissions in the UK. The analysis then examines historical trends in UK energy policy and presents policy options for further reducing the UK's energy-use and carbon emissions in the future. 相似文献
