Dynamics of liquid-filled spacecraft   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A method is presented for simulating coupled liquid-solid dynamics. An important example of a coupled liquid-solid system is a satellite carrying fuel. The dynamics of the satellite and the onboard fuel influence each other, which may lead to satellite motion that is uncontrollable. For better understanding of the complex dynamics of coupled systems, a numerical model is developed. The model consists of two parts. The first part that solves the liquid motion is only briefly discussed here. The focus in this paper is on the way in which the dynamics of the liquid and the solid body are coupled. For this, the governing equations are presented in which terms appear that represent the force and torque on the solid body due to the sloshing liquid. The governing equations are rewritten such that the discrete approximation of these equations can be integrated in a stable manner for arbitrary liquid/solid mass ratios. Results are presented demonstrating the stability of the present model. A grid-refinement study and a time-step analysis are performed. Finally, the flat-spin motion of a satellite, partially filled with liquid, that flew in 1992 as part of the Wet Satellite Model experiment is studied. Results from the simulation are compared with the actual flight data.  相似文献

Combination therapies that include metronidazole (MTZ) are the most successful therapies used in eradicating Helicobacter pylori. In this study, the prevalence and the relevance of heterogeneity in susceptibility to MTZ among H. pylori populations of 156 patients were evaluated. The results of this study show that 37 patients (24%) were infected with MTZ-resistant H. pylori (MIC > or = 8 micrograms/ml). Furthermore, 33% (52 of 156) of the patients were found to be infected with H. pylori populations heterogeneous for their susceptibility to MTZ. The reassessment of the MICs of MTZ for these 52 H. pylori populations revealed MTZ resistance in 28 of them, increasing the number of MTZ-resistant H. pylori populations among the 156 patients to 65 (42%). Out of 20 isolates, 2 (10%) heterogeneous in their susceptibility to MTZ also appeared to be heterogeneous at the genome level as determined by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA fingerprinting. In conclusion, the results show the limitations and risk of possible misinterpretations when only a single colony, picked from the primary H. pylori populations isolated from patients, is analyzed for its susceptibility to MTZ.  相似文献

The dimensional changes of liver sections during the course of processing with glycol methacrylate (GMA) or with ethanol are described. Tissue processing with ethanol served as a control. During prolonged processing steps (24 h each), linear shrinkage of tissue specimens dehydrated with GMA at room temperature was 13.2%. Subsequent infiltration with GMA resulted in trivial swelling, and polymerization in slight shrinkage (2.3%). In comparison, processing with cold GMA resulted in shrinkage during dehydration (about 10.8%), a slight swelling in pure GMA, followed by shrinkage during polymerization (2.2%). Short routine processing schedules resulted in similar shrinkage/swelling patterns, although precise values differed slightly. In all experiments, ethanolic dehydration resulted in smaller dimensional tissue changes than did GMA dehydration. The dimensional changes of tissue sections during stretching on water, mounting and drying compensated for the major part of the shrinkage manifested during processing.  相似文献

The prevalence of allergy, lung function disorders, and bronchial hyperreactivity was studied in 102 Dutch veterinarians, subdivided into five professional groups (predominantly working with either swine, cattle, poultry, companion animals, or as a non-practitioner). The mean age of the participants was 43 years; 6 participants were females. Twenty-two per cent of the participants were overweight, and relatively more non-practitioners than practitioners were overweight. Approximately 23% of the vets reported complaints of prolonged fatigue. The data suggest a relationship between complaints of prolonged fatigue and a more than average number of daily working hours. Only a small proportion of vets were sensitized against several allergens. There were no significant differences in prevalence of distinct lung function disorders or bronchial hyperreactivity between professional groups. It is hypothesized that the respiratory complaints (chronic coughing, chronic phlegm production, stuffed nose, sneezing) reported by the vets predominantly working in swine and/or poultry practice could be caused by irritation and/or inflammation of the first part of the trachea-bronchial tree that has no measurable and permanent consequences for changes in lung function or increased bronchial hyperreactivity. The results of a skin test against allergens and determination of allergen-specific IgE in blood indicated that the respiratory complaints were probably not related to allergy against the panel of allergens tested.  相似文献

Plants have the ability to acquire an enhanced level of resistance to pathogen attack after being exposed to specific biotic stimuli. In Arabidopsis, nonpathogenic, root-colonizing Pseudomonas fluorescens bacteria trigger an induced systemic resistance (ISR) response against infection by the bacterial leaf pathogen P. syringae pv tomato. In contrast to classic, pathogen-induced systemic acquired resistance (SAR), this rhizobacteria-mediated ISR response is independent of salicylic acid accumulation and pathogenesis-related gene activation. Using the jasmonate response mutant jar1, the ethylene response mutant etr1, and the SAR regulatory mutant npr1, we demonstrate that signal transduction leading to P. fluorescens WCS417r-mediated ISR requires responsiveness to jasmonate and ethylene and is dependent on NPR1. Similar to P. fluorescens WCS417r, methyl jasmonate and the ethylene precursor 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate were effective in inducing resistance against P. s. tomato in salicylic acid-nonaccumulating NahG plants. Moreover, methyl jasmonate-induced protection was blocked in jar1, etr1, and npr1 plants, whereas 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate-induced protection was affected in etr1 and npr1 plants but not in jar1 plants. Hence, we postulate that rhizobacteria-mediated ISR follows a novel signaling pathway in which components from the jasmonate and ethylene response are engaged successively to trigger a defense reaction that, like SAR, is regulated by NPR1. We provide evidence that the processes downstream of NPR1 in the ISR pathway are divergent from those in the SAR pathway, indicating that NPR1 differentially regulates defense responses, depending on the signals that are elicited during induction of resistance.  相似文献

Cellular signal transduction proceeds through a complex network of molecular interactions and enzymatic activities. The timing of these molecular events is critical for the propagation of a signal and the generation of a specific cellular response. To define the timing of signalling events, we introduce the combination of high-resolution confocal microscopy with the application of small-molecule inhibitors at various stages of signal transduction in T cells. Inhibitors of Src-family tyrosine kinases and actin dynamics were employed to dissect the role of the lymphocyte-specific tyrosine kinase Lck in the formation and maintenance of T cell receptor/CD3-dependent contacts. Anti-CD3epsilon-coated coverslips served as a highly defined stimulus. The kinetics of the recruitment of the yellow fluorescent protein-tagged signalling protein ZAP-70 were detected by high-resolution confocal microscopy. The analysis revealed that at 5 min after receptor engagement, Lck activity was required for maintenance of contacts. In contrast, after 20 min of receptor engagement, the contacts were Lck-independent. The relevance of the timing of inhibitor application provides a pharmacological concept for the maturation of T cell-substrate contacts.  相似文献

The paper proposes a method for the detection of bubble-like transparent objects in a liquid. The detection problem is non-trivial since bubble appearance varies considerably due to different lighting conditions causing contrast reversal and multiple interreflections. We formulate the problem as the detection of concentric circular arrangements (CCA). The CCAs are recovered in a hypothesize-optimize-verify framework. The hypothesis generation is based on sampling from the partially linked components of the non-maximum suppressed responses of oriented ridge filters, and is followed by the CCA parameter estimation. Parameter optimization is carried out by minimizing a novel cost-function. The performance was tested on gas dispersion images of pulp suspension and oil dispersion images. The mean error of gas/oil volume estimation was used as a performance criterion due to the fact that the main goal of the applications driving the research was the bubble volume estimation. The method achieved 28 and 13 % of gas and oil volume estimation errors correspondingly outperforming the OpenCV Circular Hough Transform in both cases and the WaldBoost detector in gas volume estimation.  相似文献

The effective turbulence approximation is widely used in the wind energy industry for site‐specific fatigue assessment of wind turbines with reference to loads. It significantly reduces the amount of aero‐elastic simulations required to document structural integrity by integrating out the directional variation of turbulence. Deriving the effective turbulence involves assumptions related to load effect histories, structural dynamics, and material fatigue strength. These assumptions may lead to low accuracy of fatigue load assessments by the effective turbulence compared with full directional simulations. This paper quantifies the implications of the effective turbulence for a multimegawatt wind turbine during normal operation. Analyses based on wind measurements from almost one hundred international sites document that the effective turbulence provides accurate results compared with full sector‐wise simulations, but only when linear SN ‐curves are assumed. For a more advanced steel tower design approach using a bilinear SN ‐curve, a reduction of the cross‐sectional design parameters by almost 10% is achieved. Additional 10% reduction can be obtained if fatigue damage is estimated utilizing the wind direction information. By applying a probabilistic approach, it is shown that this reduction in the design parameter of the steel tower does not compromise the structural integrity when the current IEC 61400‐1 standard is followed. The results presented may improve decision making in site‐specific fatigue assessments of wind turbines and prevent overconservative design, which results from the use of the effective turbulence, and thereby reduce the cost of wind energy.  相似文献

Making use of the OC CCI (Ocean Colour Climate Change Initiative) satellite data, and based on the developed both Emiliania huxleyi bloom contouring methodologies and binary masks, areas of coccolithophore growth were distinguished without supervision from locations of mass developments of other algae. On these grounds, and employing special processing algorithms, multi-year time series of variations in occurrence, surficial extent, and content of particulate inorganic carbon (PIC) within E. huxleyi blooming areas in the North, Norwegian, Greenland, Barents, and Bering Seas were obtained for the time period 1998–2013. Analysis of algorithmic processing of the OC CCI data permitted to reveal the spatio-temporal sequence of E. huxleyi blooming events in the above seas of the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. During the intra-annual cycle, E. huxleyi blooms advance from temperate to higher latitudes along the pathways of the Gulf Stream propagation to the north. Annually, the blooms arise in the vicinity of the Great Britain southern extremity, and further on move northward along the western coast of this Island Country, round it to eventually appear first in the North and Norwegian Seas (in early June), then in the Greenland Sea (in late June), and finally in the Barents Sea (in late July–early September). The regularities in dates of bloom outbreak and their duration are revealed. The bloom areas in the North Atlantic–Arctic water are the lowest in the Greenland Sea (10,000–30,000 km2) and by an order of magnitude higher in the Barents Sea. The same pattern holds for the total PIC content within E. huxleyi blooms: 400 t–14 kt in the Greenland Sea and about 0.35 Mt in the Barents Sea. In the Bering Sea, the temporal and spatial dynamics of E. huxleyi development proved to be highly irregular: before and after the 1997–2001 period of high intensity of this phenomenon, the blooms are sporadic, their extent and PIC production are either very low or insignificant. Regarding the range of E. huxleyi bloom areas in the Bering Sea during 1997–2001, it is rather similar to that of the Barents Sea. However, the PIC content in the Bering Sea, as compared to that in the Barents Sea, is higher by a factor of about two with maximum values reaching 0.4 Mt and, on one occasion (in 2001), even about 0.7 Mt.  相似文献
