Surface structure of thin silver films (200 Å) on two technologically important films, indium tin oxide (ITO) and aluminium oxide, has been studied using scanning tunneling microscope. ITO films were prepared by reactive electron beam evaporation. Aluminium oxide films were prepared by oxidizing 2000 Å thick aluminium films evaporated on to H2 terminated single crystal silicon substrates. The surface structure of silver on ITO and aluminium oxide appeared to be same and was characteristic of Stranski-Krastanov type. The observed asymmetry in the island shape was attributed to the anisotropic nature of the strain fields surrounding the nucleation centres.  相似文献

Critical current densities of the superconducting Y-Ba-Cu-O (YBCO) films have been observed to decrease with the increase of power of microwave radiation. Presence of Josephson type of junctions in the microbridges has been established from the microwave irradiation and magnetic field studies. BCS energy gap parameter (2/kT c ) has been calculated from thedI/dV characteristics and found to be 3.7 at 13 K.  相似文献

Perfectly matched layers for transient elastodynamics of unbounded domains   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
One approach to the numerical solution of a wave equation on an unbounded domain uses a bounded domain surrounded by an absorbing boundary or layer that absorbs waves propagating outward from the bounded domain. A perfectly matched layer (PML) is an unphysical absorbing layer model for linear wave equations that absorbs, almost perfectly, outgoing waves of all non‐tangential angles‐of‐incidence and of all non‐zero frequencies. In a recent work [Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering 2003; 192: 1337–1375], the authors presented, inter alia, time‐harmonic governing equations of PMLs for anti‐plane and for plane‐strain motion of (visco‐) elastic media. This paper presents (a) corresponding time‐domain, displacement‐based governing equations of these PMLs and (b) displacement‐based finite element implementations of these equations, suitable for direct transient analysis. The finite element implementation of the anti‐plane PML is found to be symmetric, whereas that of the plane‐strain PML is not. Numerical results are presented for the anti‐plane motion of a semi‐infinite layer on a rigid base, and for the classical soil–structure interaction problems of a rigid strip‐footing on (i) a half‐plane, (ii) a layer on a half‐plane, and (iii) a layer on a rigid base. Hydrogen storage in titanium dioxide (TiO2) functionalized (10, 10) armchair single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) is investigated through first principle calculations using density functional theory (DFT). This first principles study uses Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package (VASP) with ultrasoft pseudopotentials and local density approximation (LDA). The necessary benchmark and other systematic calculations were carried out to project the hydrogen storage capability of the designed system. Interestingly, the TiO2 molecules functionalized on the outer surface of SWCNT do not undergo any dimerization/clustering thus giving excellent stability and usable gravimetric hydrogen storage capacity of 5.7 wt.% and the value nearly fulfills the US DOE target (i.e. 6 wt.%). The band structure and density of states (DOS) plots suggest that the functionalization can lead a way to transform the nature (metallic → semiconducting) of the pristine SWCNT. The nominal values of H2 storage capacity and binding energies give much hope for using CNT functionalized with TiO2 as a practical and reversible hydrogen storage medium (HSM).  相似文献

TiO2 nanoparticles decorated nitrogen (N) doped helical carbon nanofiber (CNF)-carbon nanotube (CNT) hybrid material is prepared by low-cost electrospinning technique followed by hydrothermal method. Morphological investigations establish helical structure of CNFs with hierarchical growth of CNTs around CNFs. The hybrid material shows a high specific surface area of 295.17 m2 g?1 with nanoporous structure. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic studies establish Ti–O–C/Ti–C bond mediated charge transfer channel between TiO2 nanoparticles and carbon structures with the success of N doping in CNFs. The electrospun hybrid material delivered high reversible charge capacities of 316 mAh g?1 (100th cycle) and 244 mAh g?1 (100th cycle) at a current density of 75 mA g?1 and 186 mA g?1 respectively. The charge capacities obtained for different applied current densities are higher than the conventional graphitic microporous microbeads anode. Results indicate that the hybrid material reported here shows high performance compare to graphite for LIBs.  相似文献

This article deals with the design of a parametric eigenstructure assignment (PEA)-based multi-objective reconfigurable output feedback controller for a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system against partial actuator failure. The significance of the PEA technique is that it provides more design degrees of freedom to obtain multi-objective functions, namely robust stability and improved transient response. Robust stability and transient response are ensured by a minimum condition number of the eigenvector and a minimum norm of controller gain. These two objectives are conflicting in nature, and, hence, the main aim is to minimize both objectives simultaneously by means of a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA). In this study, a multi-objective optimization problem is formulated and is solved by non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) and strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm-II (SPEA-II). Four indicators are used to evaluate each algorithm performance: spacing, error ratio, generational distance, and hypervolume. Then a reconfigurable controller is designed using PEA against actuator failure, which guarantees closed-loop stability. The effectiveness of the proposed controllers is demonstrated by implementing them in an interacting three-tank benchmark system.  相似文献

Sodium environmental effects are key limiting factors in the high temperature structural design of advanced sodium-cooled reactors. A guideline is needed to incorporate environmental effects in the ASME design rules to improve the performance reliability over long operating times. This paper summarizes the influence of sodium exposure on mechanical performance of selected austenitic stainless and ferritic/martensitic steels. Focus is on Type 316SS and mod.9Cr-1Mo. The sodium effects were evaluated by comparing the mechanical properties data in air and sodium. Carburization and decarburization were found to be the key factors that determine the tensile and creep properties of the steels. A beneficial effect of sodium exposure on fatigue life was observed under fully reversed cyclic loading in both austenitic stainless steels and ferritic/martensitic steels. However, when hold time was applied during cyclic loading, the fatigue life was significantly reduced. Based on the mechanical performance of the steels in sodium, consideration of sodium effects in high temperature structural design of advanced fast reactors is discussed.  相似文献
