The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a modern wave of Internet technologies that promises great transformation of life in areas such as smart health, smart cities, smart homes, intelligent transport, amongst others. However, security often serves as a critical reason for the widespread adoption of any innovation. While the IoT has increased business productivity and enriched diverse areas of life over the years, the world is yet to see a methodical revolution of its humongous application and transformation given its ubiquity and highly interconnected global network structure. The main culprit for such lapses is principally attributed to security and privacy issues which have been widely discussed in research articles and reviews but remain largely unaddressed in the literature. Hence, this paper provides a state-of-the-art review of IoT security and its challenges. It overviews technical and legal solutions that are useful to private, organizational, and governmental enterprises. The study encompasses the review and security analysis of IoT’s evolution and revolution, IoT security assessments, requirements, current research challenges in security and much more. Consequently, it offers potential solutions to address the security challenges discussed and further present open research issues, research gaps, opportunities, future development, and recommendations. This overview is intended to serve as a knowledgebase that will proffer novel foresight to guide users and administrators in positioning themselves and their organizations in a manner that is consistent with their overall objectives, mission, and vision for remarkable outcomes. Likewise, interested scholars and researchers can explore topics and directions from the study in providing better solutions to the numerous problems in IoT security.

An upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor of volume 0.03 m3 was designed and fabricated to treat wastewater. The initial organic loading rate (OLR) of the wastewater estimated to be 4.8 gVS/l.d was later reduced to 0.96 gVS/l.d to control the observed acidity in the medium while the reactor was operated continuously for 64 days. The percent biological oxygen demand (BOD) and volatile solid (VS) removal were calculated over a period of 5 weeks to measure the efficiency of the reactor. The mean VS, total solid (TS), and BOD for the influent substrate were 0.43 g/kg, 0.84 g/kg, and 0.020 mg/m3, respectively, while for the treated wastewater, the VS, TS, and BOD were 0.30 g/kg, 0.59 g/kg, and 0.013 mg/m3, respectively. The estimated energy produced by the biogas was 5.8 kWh and 0.001 m3 of the biogas raised the temperature of 20 ml of water by 11.8°C in 40 s. The study concluded that the UASB reactor designed could treat the wastewater and the biogas generated could also serve as a source of renewable energy for cooking. However, the start-up OLR should be monitored in the course of operation to prevent souring of the digester and to achieve optimum performance of the reactor.  相似文献

Pavement deterioration creates conditions that undermine their performances, which gives rise to the need for maintenance and rehabilitation. This paper develops a mathematical multi-linear regression analysis (MLRA) model to determine a pavement sustainability index (PSTI) as dependent variable for flexible pavements in Maryland. Four categories of pavement performance evaluation indicators are subdivided into seven pavement condition indices and analyzed as independent variables for each section of pavement. Data are collected from five different roadways using field evaluations and existing database. Results indicate that coefficient of determination (R2) is correlated and significant, R2 = 0.959. Of the seven independent variables, present serviceability index (PSI) is the most significant with a coefficient value of 0.032, present serviceability rating (PSR) coefficient value= 0.028, and international roughness index (IRI) coefficient value= ?0.001. Increasing each unit value of coefficients for PSI and PSR would increase the value of PSTI; thereby providing a more sustainable pavement infrastructure; which explains the significance of the model and why IRI will most likely impact environmental, economic and social values.  相似文献

The use of terrestrial laser scanning(TLS) in the caves has been growing drastically over the last decade.However, TLS application to cave stability assessment has not received much attention of researchers.This study attempted to utilize rock surface orientations obtained from TLS point cloud collected along cave passages to(1) investigate the influence of rock geostructure on cave passage development, and(2)assess cave stability by determining areas susceptible to different failure types. The TLS point cloud was divided into six parts(Entry hall, Chamber, Main hall, Shaft 1, Shaft 2 and Shaft 3), each representing different segments of the cave passages. Furthermore, the surface orientation information was extracted and grouped into surface discontinuity joint sets. The computed global mean and best-fit planes of the entire cave show that the outcrop dips 290° with a major north-south strike. But at individual level, the passages with dip angle between 26° and 80° are featured with dip direction of 75°-322°. Kinematic tests reveal the potential for various failure modes of rock slope. Our findings show that toppling is the dominant failure type accounting for high-risk rockfall in the cave, with probabilities of 75.26%, 43.07%and 24.82% in the Entry hall, Main hall and Shaft 2, respectively. Unlike Shaft 2 characterized by high risk of the three failure types(32.49%, 24.82% and 50%), the chamber and Shaft 3 passages are not suffering from slope failure. The results also show that the characteristics of rock geostructure considerably influence the development of the cave passages, and four sections of the cave are susceptible to different slope failure types, at varying degrees of risk.  相似文献
