A novel sediment bubble gas sampler and a subsurface bubble gas collector were designed to measure the ebullition of gases from profundal sediments of aquatic ecosystems. The sediment gas sampler was constructed to collect bubble gas samples directly from the uppermost sediment layers for gas composition analysis. The floating subsurface gas collector, designed to trap the bubbles released naturally from sediments, permitted the measurement of both the volume and the composition of the bubble gas. Due to its low cost, light weight and rapid sampling capability, the gas collector is ideal for studies requiring many replicate collectors. These devices were used for measurement of the ebullition of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) during an open water period from hypereutrophic Lake Postilampi, situated within the midboreal zone in Finland. The bubble gas obtained from the sediment with the sediment gas sampler had higher concentrations of CH4 and CO2 than the bubbles trapped in the gas collectors. This indicated that the bubble gas composition changed, either naturally during the migration of the bubbles from the sediment through the water column to the gas collectors, and/or during their storage in the collectors prior to sampling. The mean CH4 ebullition from Lake Postilampi was estimated to be in the range from 36 to 46 mg m(-2 d(-1), based on the bubble gas CH4 concentrations measured from the gas collectors and sediment, respectively. The bubbles contained only 0.02-0.57% of CO2 and thus, the ebullition had no significance in the release of CO2 from the lake.  相似文献

The present study used trimethyltin (TMT)-intoxicated rats as a model for the behavioural syndrome seen after neuronal damage to the limbic system. Behavioural assessments indicated increased locomotor activity and reduced number of groomings in an open-arena task in TMT-intoxicated (6.6 mg/kg as a free base) rats, as has been found previously. A novel finding was the severe deficit in swimming to a visible platform in the water maze task, with reduced swimming speed at the beginning of the training period. During the reacquisition phase of a radial arm maze task, TMT-intoxicated rats made more short-term and long-term memory errors, and their behavioural activity was increased in comparison with controls. The administration of atipamezole (300 micrograms/kg), a selective antagonist of alpha 2-adrenoceptors, enhanced locomotor activity compared to saline-treated rats, but these effects did not differ between the TMT group and their controls. Atipamezole did not enhance short-term or long-term memory in either TMT or control groups. Taken together, the present data indicate that TMT intoxication is a model for global dementia rather than for a specific loss of relational memory. Previous studies on the neurochemical effects of TMT and the alleviation or prevention of neurotoxicity of TMT are reviewed.  相似文献

The use of three types of transducers to measure the velocity of the piston shaft of a hydraulic actuator is investigated. The types of transducers are linear magnetic scale, magnetostrictive, and optical rotary encoder. It was hypothesized that human mesenchymal stromal cell (hMSC) can be guided by patterned and plain amorphous diamond (AD), titanium (Ti), tantalum (Ta) and chromium (Cr) coatings, produced on silicon wafer using physical vapour deposition and photolithography. At 7.5 h hMSCs density was 3.0–3.5× higher (P < 0.0003, except Ti) and cells were smaller (68 vs. 102 μm, P 0.000006–0.02) on patterns than on silicon background. HMSC-covered surface of the background silicon was lower on Ti than AD patterns (P = 0.015), but at 5 days this had reversed (P = 0.006). At 7.5 h focal vinculin adhesions and actin cytoskeleton were outgoing from pattern edges so cells assumed geometric square shapes. Patterns allowed induced osteogenesis, but less effectively than plain surfaces, except for AD, which could be used to avoid osseointegration. All these biomaterial patterns exert direct early, intermediate and late guidance on hMSCs and osteogenic differentiation, but indirect interactions exist with cells on silicon background.  相似文献

Optical characterization methods, like spectrophotometry at UV–vis-NIR wavelengths and prism-coupler method, were applied to polycrystalline Pb(ZrxTi1?x)O3 thin films at various thicknesses. Thin films were deposited at room temperature by pulsed laser deposition on MgO (1 0 0) substrates and post-annealed at different temperatures. X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy were used to characterize the crystal structure and surface morphology of the thin films, respectively.Well oscillating transmission with a sharp fall near the absorption edge was found in films with high orientation and low surface roughness. Changes in the surface morphology and crystal orientation were found to modulate optical interference maxima and minima of the transmittance spectra and to increase the width of the TE0 mode (Δβ  0.06) indicating an increase in the scattering losses of the films. Single-phase oriented films had sharpest coupling values (Δβ  0.005) of the TE0 mode.  相似文献

A number of properties of amorphous materials including fatigue, fracture and component performance are governed by the magnitude of strain fields around inhomogeneities such as inclusions, voids and cracks. At present, localized strain information is only available from surface probes such as optical or electron microscopy. This is unfortunate because surface and bulk characteristics in general differ. Hence, to a large extent, the assessment of strain distributions relies on untested models. Here we present a universal diffraction method for characterizing bulk stress and strain fields in amorphous materials and demonstrate its efficacy by work on a material of current interest in materials engineering: a bulk metallic glass. The macroscopic response is shown to be less stiff than the atomic next-neighbour bonds because of structural rearrangements at the scale of 4-10 A. The method is also applicable to composites comprising an amorphous matrix and crystalline inclusions.  相似文献

This article analyzes how professionals of early childhood education define Finnishness and how they deal with ethnicity. It illustrates how nationality and ethnicity are actualised in the everyday practices of preschool. As part of a one-year ethnographic study in two preschools, the study reveals that the liberal version of multiculturalism adopted in Finland strengthens the boundaries of the nation-state. Finnishness gets conceptualised within the discipline and order of everyday life. When individuals considered as Finnish are evaluated, individual discourses are mobilised. When individuals considered as 'others' are under scrutiny, cultural discourses work as sources of interpretation.  相似文献

We examined the effects of repeated administration of (S)-alpha-fluoromethylhistidine (FMH), a specific inhibitor of histidine decarboxylase (HDC), on radial maze performance and brain contents of histamine and amino acids in rats. By daily subcutaneous (s.c.) administration of FMH (100 mg/kg), rats showed significant enhancement of a radial maze performance without changes in locomotion. Six days after FMH treatment, the histamine levels both in the cerebral cortex and diencephalon decreased significantly. However, the glutamate and glycine levels significantly increased in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus. These results suggest that FMH enhances the acquisition phase of radial maze study with the increases in glutamate and glycine levels in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus of rats.  相似文献
