Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is frequently associated with severe periodontitis. Many periodontitis patients have elevated levels of serum IgG antibodies to A. actinomycetemcomitans, but the role of these antibodies is unknown. This study evaluated the functional capacity of anti-A. actinomycetemcomitans IgG antibody to enhance phagocytosis of A. actinomycetemcomitans by polymorphonuclear leukocytes. Chemoluminescence assays were done using sera from 64 subjects, 61 of whom had severe periodontitis; results were compared with the subject's anti-A. actinomycetemcomitans IgG titer and avidity. There was a strong correlation between chemoluminescence and antibody log titer (P < .00001) and a weak correlation between chemoluminescence and antibody avidity (P < .05). The results support the hypothesis that anti-A. actinomycetemcomitans IgG antibodies are important in promoting phagocytosis and killing of A. actinomycetemcomitans. Subjects who develop high levels of highly avid antibodies against A. actinomycetemcomitans may have greater resistance to continued or repeated infection by this pathogen.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A total of 45 experiments were carried out to evaluate the robustness of two similar tablet formulations—a product of two strengths—with respect to normal batch-to-batch variation of the excipients and the active pharmaceutical ingredient. The formulations consist of 10 ingredients. Because of the differing amounts of active pharmaceutical ingredients, the two formulations also differ in the amounts of two of the diluents and one of the binders. The excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredient were characterized in terms of multiple variables, and principal properties were calculated with principal component analysis. A Plackett and Burman design was applied to the principal properties. The relationships between the design factors and two responses, mean disintegration time and mean crushing strength, were evaluated by using regression methods. Both formulations were found to be robust under controlled conditions.  相似文献

The depletion of fossil fuel-based resources and concerns for increasing emissions of CO2 call for new ways of producing environmentally-friendly substitutes for motor fuels and chemicals. Thermo-chemical conversion of biomass and waste using gasification is a strong candidate to meet these challenges. For efficient and cost-effective application of this technique, novel solutions for hot gas cleaning are needed. This review highlights some important areas for improvement of upgrading technologies for pressurised fluidised bed gasification systems using biomass as a fuel.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the structure and motion problem for calibrated one-dimensional projections of a two-dimensional environment. The theory of one-dimensional cameras are useful in several areas, e.g. within robotics, autonomous guided vehicles, projection of lines in ordinary vision and vision of vehicles undergoing so called planar motion. In a previous paper the structure and motion problem for all cases with non-missing data was classified and solved. Our aim is here to classify all structure and motion problems, even those with missing data, and to solve them. In the classification we introduce the notion of a prime problem. A prime problem is a minimal problem that does not contain a minimal problem as a sub-problem. We further show that there are infinitely many such prime problems. We give solutions to four prime problems, and using the duality of Carlsson these can be extended to solutions of seven prime problems. Finally we give some experimental results based on synthetic data.  相似文献

In the past, the techniques of electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction have both been very informative about the ultrastructure of the muscle myofibril But X-ray diffraction patterns are difficult to interpret unambiguously and until now specimen preservation in plastic embedded muscle has been sufficiently poor to make it difficult to use electron micrographs of muscle as a means of interpreting the available X-ray diffraction evidence. The possibility of using ultrathin sections of frozen muscle, in which the disruptive steps of chemical dehydration and plastic embedding can be avoided, promises to help to bridge the information gap between present X-ray and electron microscope results. For this reason we here review the application of the cryosectioning technique to muscle, we assess the technique in terms of the improvements in preservation which have so far been obtained and which might be expected and we discuss some of the many potential advantages and uses of this technique for studies of muscle ultrastructure and function. It is concluded that this technique should be developed vigorously since it promises to play a very important role in muscle research in the future.  相似文献
