Substantiation of Application of Overburden Rehandling in Flat-Dipping Deposits

The layer reexcavation ratio is proposed to use for determination of overburden thickness in the combined conveying and direct-dumping systems of mining by draglines with haulage to goaf. It is established that this method ensures the decrease in costs of mining the horizontal and flat-dipping deposits.     

Stripping with direct dumping in Kuzbass open pit mines: The current state and prospects

The analytical results are given for application of stripping with direct dumping in open pit mines in Kuzbass. It is emphasized that this most productive and the least power-consuming technology loses its weight in the overall content of overburden stripping. The authors propose a method to determine rational boundaries for application area of stripping with direct dumping using slice re-excavation coefficient. The scope of the discussion comprises potential trends of the technology and use of draglines towards enhancement of open pit mining efficiency.     

Estimation criteria for energy consumption by mining equipment in quarries

The regularities of fuel consumption by mining equipment during opencast mining are established. Nature-oriented open coal mining technologies using mined-out space in an open pit. Part I: Analysis of the current mineral mining methods

An analysis is performed into the currently applied coal mining methods using mined-out space in an open pit, with describing their basic advantages and disadvantages. Choice of the hard rock surface mining machinery in Russia

Based on the review of theoretical research, design experience and field experience gained in hard rock surface mining, the authors highlight the development trends in the extraction and loading machine building, and show the need to vitalize the national mining machine engineering.     

Problems of conversion and multipurpose utilization of Siberian coal

The article focuses on the issues of higher efficiency and competitiveness of the coal mining industry benefiting from advanced processing of coal. The Siberian reserves of coal ranked in a wide range allow heat energy and electric power generation, and the ample stock of coal products at a high added value.     

Prospects of Coal Mining in Siberia

The priority trends of coal mining in the eastern regions of Siberia are discussed. The main attention is given to the expediency of increase in volumes of coal extraction primarily due to the most effective open-pit mining in the Kuznetsk and the Kansk-Achinsk Basins.     

ILU-14 industrial electron linear accelerator with a modular structure

A new high-power (up to 100 kW) industrial electron linear accelerator ILU-14 for energies of 7.5–10.0 MeV has been developed by the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics. The operating frequency of the accelerator is 176 MHz, and the total efficiency is 26%. Owing to the modular structure of the accelerator, the electron energy and the beam power can be varied within certain limits by changing the modular arrangement. A 5-MeV prototype of this accelerator has been produced and successfully tested. Its design parameters verified in the experiments are as follows: the beam current averaged over the RF period is 600 mA, the beam pulse power is 2.5 MW, and the electron efficiency of the accelerating structure is 68%. By applying an additional RF voltage to the electron gun cathode-grid gap, a 96% transmittance of the beam current has been attained at a minor beam energy spread. The prototype of the ILU-14 accelerator can be used as an accelerator with a beam power of 50 kW.     

Selection of load–haul–dump machines for hard mineral mining in difficult mining and geological conditions

In focus is selection of load–haul–dump machines for hard mineral mines. The authors offer substantiation procedures for tuck-and-shovel systems of mining in difficult ground conditions. In terms of Kyrgaisky Sredni open-cut located in the Erunakovo coal district in Kuzbass, using the Lerchs–Grossman algorithm, the principles and sequence of forming efficient application domains for different specification trucks and shovels within a mine field are presented.     

Blast-Free Technology of Mineral Mining: State and Prospects. Part II: Estimation of the Efficiency of Various Failure Methods in Opencast Mining Technologies

A comparative estimation is performed for the up-to-date methods of rock failure with respect to the specific energy consumption of failure. The spheres of application of the methods discussed in executive elements of mining machines are tentatively determined depending on the properties of rocks.
