In the context of industrial buildings and power plants, electrical installations and cable trays represent a main fuel load and a potential initial fire source due to possible short circuits or comparable malfunction. Furthermore, a fire can spread from one tray to additional trays mounted above and/or horizontally on one tray. Because of the high significance of cable fires, several research projects have been carried out, investigating the fire behaviour of cables from small‐scale tests, eg, the cone calorimeter, up to large‐scale tests, analysing complete cable tray constructions. The goal of the work presented in this paper is the extension of the knowledge regarding the influence of geometrical parameters like the packing density and tray distance on the burning behaviour and fire spread of cable tray installations. The results are considered, together with test results from the literature, to quantify the main physical parameters describing the burning behaviour. In a next step, the general applicability of these parameters as input data for the parametrization of the source term of numerical simulations is shown. The test results show that the burning behaviour and the fire spreading highly depend on the cable arrangement of the cables on the cable tray, in combination with other boundary conditions. By applying the results as input for a fire simulation, the mass loss rate is considered appropriately.  相似文献

The predictive relation between neonatal behavior and temperament at 24 months was examined for 67 infants. Behaviors rated by trained examiners at both ages were aggregated into composite scores to provide a more reliable indicator of individual differences than single-item scores. Longitudinal analyses revealed several significant relations between the two ages, most notably that irritable neonates were rated as more upset, less attentive to stimuli, and less responsive to the staff at 24 months. The common variable describing behavior at both ages was related to emotionality. Examination of extreme groups on ratings of emotional tone indicated that the distressed toddler had high irritability ratings as a neonate, but the more pleasant toddler was not different from the average group in neonatal irritability scores. It was concluded that a modest predictive relation between temperament variables was demonstrated from the neonatal period to 24 months. Mine drainage from the St Louis Tunnel (located at the Rico-Argentine Site) is circumneutral most of the year, with spring freshets increasing flow, decreasing pH and increasing metals concentrations. This study was designed to test the performance of a demonstration-scale horizontal wetlands passive treatment train, comprised of a settling basin, surface flow wetland, horizontal-flow anaerobic wetland, aeration channel, and rock drain, during two years of influent water chemistry at a constant 113 L/min (30 gpm) flow rate. Total Zn, Cd, and Mn effluent concentrations met project treatment goals (PTGs) 75, 96.9, and 100% of the time, respectively, and 93.9, 100, and 100% of the time for the dissolved metals. Most PTG exceedances occurred during the freshet events. Most Zn and Cd attenuation was attributed to sulfide precipitation in the anaerobic cell and capture/filtration of suspended ZnS particles in the anaerobic wetland and rock drain. Manganese was attenuated in the aerobic portion of the anaerobic cell (influent transition zone) as Mn oxides and carbonates. Oxidation of Mn occurred in the rock drain as biogenically formed Mn oxides adhered to the rock matrix. Carryover of dissolved sulfides from the anaerobic cell limited the rock drain’s Mn removal efficiency. Low temperatures did not significantly affect biological activity within the system; the effects of seasonal water quality were more important.

This publication is a case study of the seasonal variability of mine water drainage from the Saint Louis Tunnel (SLT) at the inactive Rico-Argentine mine site located in southwestern Colorado. It is an introductory paper for the two passive water treatment system technology evaluations contained in this issue. Mine water chemistry changes from baseflow to a snowmelt runoff event (SMRE) where snowmelt runoff follows preferential migration pathways to flush acidic weathering products from the upper mine workings to the SLT. Baseflow mine drainage is characterized as circumneutral, with Zn, Cd, Mn, and Ni concentrations primarily in the dissolved form. Dissolved Zn, Mn, Fe, and potentially Cd illustrate equilibrium with carbonate minerals. Total concentrations of Fe, Cu, Pb, and As are primarily in the suspended form and suggest sorption to Fe oxides. Mine water chemistry during the SMRE reflects mixing of circumneutral baseflow waters with more acidic waters flushing the upper mine workings. Geothermal activity provides for a consistently warm mine water discharge from the SLT. The two seasons that provide the most challenge to passive water treatment of SLT mine drainage are the SMRE period and the low flow stage of the Dolores River. Mine water flow and chemistry during SMRE are highly correlated with Dolores River flow and this site conceptual model was and will be used to assist in pilot project evaluation, water treatment system design, monitoring system design, a seasonal compliance approach, and water management.

For some years now, the process industry has been meeting the challenges of the markets with modular production and logistics concepts. This article presents this development process in the form of a four-stage transformation model. It is shown that the path towards modular production environments can be taken step by step. The motto is “evolution instead of revolution”. First, an overview of the state of the art of modularized production and logistics systems is given. A numerical study is conducted of ethane–air coflow diffusion flames at pressures from 2 to 15 atm. The model employed uses a detailed gas phase chemical kinetic mechanism that includes PAH formation and growth, and is coupled to a detailed sectional soot particle dynamics model. The model is able to accurately predict the trends observed experimentally with increasing pressure without any tuning of the model for different pressures. The model shows good agreement with the experimental data on both the flame wings and centerline regions. Peak wing and centerline soot volume fractions are found to scale with P2.49 and P2.02 respectively. This scaling compares well to that observed experimentally for methane–air and ethylene–air flames. As pressure is increased, the flame cross-sectional area decreases according to P?1.0 due to a constant mass flux and a thinning of the flame, which is consistent with experimental observations. Soot formation along the wings is seen to be surface growth dominated, while PAH condensation dominates centerline soot formation. Surface growth and PAH condensation increase with increasing pressure primarily due to both of these processes being a function of surface area. This causes increases in soot volume fraction to further accelerate surface growth and PAH condensation, acting in a positive feedback manner. This positive feedback mechanism is initiated by increases in reaction rates caused by increases in gas phase density. Additionally, the significance of surface growth decreases with increasing pressure, while the role of PAH condensation increases.  相似文献
