This paper describes a feasibility stage geotechnical evaluation carried out at the Karameh dam site. The 45 m high, 2,150 m long dam will be built across the Wadi Mallaha on Quaternary lacustrine deposits and store fresh water from the King Abdullah Canal. A confined highly saline aquifer was identified at a depth of 25 m, the saline groundwater migrating naturally through the Lisan Formation. Stability analysis of the foundation indicates that the slopes are just stable under dry conditions and may become unstable under wet conditions. The most important problem is the presence of the active main Jordan Valley Fault crossing both the dam body and reservoir. Electronic Publication  相似文献

In this paper, the effect of cotton stickiness and the effect of blending sticky with non-sticky cotton in quality of rotor-spun yarn and optimization of spinning process were studied using Taguchi experimental design technique which has recently emerged as a famous statistical approach and ANOVA. In the evaluations, analyses of the signal-to-noise ratio were used. Nine experiments were performed with respect to the L9 orthogonal design for the Taguchi approach. Taguchi Method was utilized to find the sequence of dominant factors contributing to rotor-spun yarn quality. The study revealed that the quality of rotor-spun yarn was not susceptible to stickiness and the dominant factor contributing to the most quality characteristics of rotor-spun yarn was the blending ratio. Results obtained by Taguchi method match closely with ANOVA.  相似文献

Cut slopes of alternating soft and hard layers along roads in Jordan are subject to differential weathering, erosion and human activities. This can result in undercutting, leading to rockfalls that endanger traffic. The factors affecting the rate of undercutting and the influence of this on the stability of ten selected road cuts along the Amman–Irbid highway in Jordan were determined. The depth of undercut was measured at selected points and the mean rate of undercutting found to vary from 10 to 73 mm/year. Grain density, bulk density, slake durability, Atterberg limits, porosity and grain size distribution were determined and correlated with the rate of undercut. A positive relationship was found between undercutting and the sand fraction and porosity values and a negative relationship with the slake durability index.   相似文献

This research aimed to study the effect of cotton stickiness in quality of ring-spun yarn, the effect of blending sticky with nonsticky cotton, and optimize the spinning process based on Taguchi experiment design technique. Nine experiments were performed with respect to the L9 orthogonal design. Taguchi method was utilized to find the sequence of dominant factors contributing to ring-spun yarn quality. The study showed that a slight and nonsignificant, negative effect on the coefficient of variation in mass of carded sliver, first and second drawn sliver. When considering the roving frame, the coefficient of variation in mass of roving was significantly increased with the increase in the stickiness level and the percentage of sticky cotton in the blends. In actual spinning, the quality of ring-spun yarn is susceptible to stickiness. The study concluded that the dominant factor contributing to the most quality characteristics of ring-spun yarn was cotton stickiness level .The study showed that the optimum condition for the blending ratio of sticky with nonsticky cotton was found to be 25 and 75%, respectively. The results showed a considerable improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio as compared to the initial conditions.  相似文献

Hydrogen production from renewable energies is a key part in the energy transition to realize a sustainable energy economy for both developed and developing nations. For Algeria, successful energy transition toward a hydrogen economy will require the establishment of its potential. This study was conducted to estimate the potential for producing hydrogen from renewable resources in Algeria. The renewable energies considered are: solar photovoltaic and wind. To accomplish this objective, first, we analyzed renewable resource data both statistically and graphically using Geographical Information System (GIS), a computer-based information system utilized to create and visualize the spatial distribution of the geographic information. Then, the study will evaluate the availability of renewable electricity production potential from these key renewable resources. The potential for the hydrogen production, via the electrolysis process with wind and solar photovoltaic electricity, is described with maps showing it per unit area in each region. Finally, the results of the estimated hydrogen potential from both resources for each region are compared and significant conclusions are drawn.  相似文献
