The present study aims to compare the oxidative stress biomarkers, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and histological changes induced by three cardiovascular risk factors, namely, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Hypertension was induced with 40 mg/kg body weight (b.w.) of N omega-nitro-L-arginine-methyl (L-NAME) administered orally. Dyslipidemia was induced by the administration of a diet with a high cholesterol (2%) content. Diabetes mellitus was induced by intraperitoneal administration of a single dose of streptozocin (65 mg/kg). Malondialdehyde (MDA) and total oxidative status (TOS) are increased by all three cardiovascular risk factors (up to 207%). The indirect assessment of NO synthesis (NOx) is observed to be reduced after L-NAME administration (43%), and dyslipidemia induction (16%), while type 1 diabetes mellitus is associated with the highest levels of NOx (increased 112%). Hypertension, dyslipidemia, and type 1 diabetes reduced the total antioxidative capacity (TAC) and total thiol (SH) levels (up to 57%). The values of evaluated pro-inflammatory cytokines, tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-1β (IL-1β), assessed from the ascending aorta were elevated by all three cardiovascular risk factors, with the highest levels induced by type 1 diabetes mellitus (up to 259%). The histopathological examination of the ascending and descending aorta revealed reversible pro-atherogenic changes consisting of the accumulation of lipid droplets in the subendothelial connective tissue on rats with hypertension and dyslipidemia. Irreversible pro-atherogenic changes consisting of a reduction of the specific elasticity of the arteries were observed in rats with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Type 1 diabetes mellitus demonstrates an alteration of the oxidative stress parameters, the elevation of tissue levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines and causing irreversible pro-atherogenic changes on the aortic wall. 相似文献

This work has been concerned with the synthesis of the hydrogels of poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) (NVP), poly (hydroxy ethylmethacrylate) (HEMA), and their copolymer under the effect of gamma radiation in the presence of N,N‐methylenebisacryl‐amide (MBAm) as a crosslinking agent. The effect of the different factors that may affect the gelation and yield product, such as solvent composition and irradiation dose, was investigated. The formed hydrogels were characterized in terms of swelling in water and different organic solvents, X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and IR spectroscopic analysis. The sorption capability of these hydrogels towards some commercial basic and acid dyesstuffs was also studied. The results showed that a solvent mixture composed of equal contents of water and methanol is the most suitable to afford the minimum sol fraction and the highest yield product at a minimal irradiation dose of 10 kGy. It was observed that NVP hydrogel displayed the highest swelling in water, alcohols, and dimethyformamide of ~1300% and a lower tendency to swell in nonpolar solvents. The results showed that HEMA hydrogel has a high affinity to absorb basic dyes while NVP has a tendency for acid dyes. Also, the sorption of either the basic or acid dyes by the different hydrogels was found to greatly depend on the concentration of dye in solution and the mass of the used hydrogel. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Blends films based on different ratios of concentrated aqueous solutions of chitosan (CS) and sodium alginate (AG) in the presence of 1% of glutaraldehyde, as a cross‐linking agent for chitosan, were prepared by solution casting and then exposed to gamma irradiation. The formed blends were characterized by IR spectroscopic analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The uptake‐release properties of CS/AG blends, taking ketoprofen as an example for drug, were also investigated. DSC thermograms of CS/AG blends revealed good miscibility was sustained between CS and AG. The water uptake and gel content of CS/AG blends was found to decrease by increasing the ratio of AG in the initial solution. The IR spectra indicated the formation of cross‐linking and hydrogen bonding, while the TGA study showed that the CS/AG blends displayed higher thermal stability than pure CS polymer. Based on Fick's law, it was demonstrated that the main parameters affecting the release of ketoprofen drug from the CS/AG blend hydrogels were composition and pH. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Due to its excellent bone-like mechanical properties and non-toxicity, magnesium (Mg) and its alloys have attracted great interest as biomaterials for orthopaedic applications. However, their fast degradation rate in physiological environments leads to an acute inflammatory response, restricting their use as biodegradable metallic implants. Endowing Mg-based biomaterials with immunomodulatory properties can help trigger a desired immune response capable of supporting a favorable healing process. In this study, electrospun poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) fibers loaded with coumarin (CM) and/or zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO) were used to coat the commercial AZ31 Mg alloy as single and combined formulas, and their effects on the macrophage inflammatory response and osteoclastogenic process were investigated by indirect contact studies. Likewise, the capacity of the analyzed samples to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been investigated. The data obtained by attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR-ATR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses indicate that AZ31 alloy was perfectly coated with the PCL fibers loaded with CM and ZnO, which had an important influence on tuning the release of the active ingredient. Furthermore, in terms of degradation in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) solution, the PCL-ZnO- and secondary PCL-CM-ZnO-coated samples exhibited the best corrosion behaviour. The in vitro results showed the PCL-CM-ZnO and, to a lower extent, PCL-ZnO coated sample exhibited the best behaviour in terms of inflammatory response and receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL)-mediated differentiation of RAW 264.7 macrophages into osteoclasts. Altogether, the results obtained suggest that the coating of Mg alloys with fibrous PCL containing CM and/or ZnO can constitute a feasible strategy for biomedical applications. 相似文献

A new approach for analyzing the similarity of dynamical systems is presented, with applications to speech analysis. This approach is based on a temporal fuzzy set representation of the trajectories of the dynamical system. The similarity between segments of the speech signal is determined via similarity measures of the corresponding temporal fuzzy sets. This investigation presents the synthesis of simultaneous interpenetrating polymer networks based on dimethacrylic/epoxy resins with or without polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) via in situ polymerization. The curing behavior was studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The influence of the organic groups from the POSS cages on the curing kinetics of the IPNs was also studied by FT-IR spectrometry. The homogeneous phase structure of the cured IPN was proved by DMA tests. Additionally the integrity of the IPN was also demonstrated by thermal decomposition which occurs in one single step. 相似文献

RF arc detection is a key operational and safety issue for ICRF systems. Dedicated measurements on a RF test-stand were made in order to characterize the optical signature of RF arcs (time and spectrum) to assess the potential of optical arc detection on ICRF systems. Time-resolved intensity measurements were carried out using high-speed Si photodetectors with different bandpass filters. The rise time of the arc emission, the light intensity and the time evolution of the arc under different pressure conditions are discussed. Spectral signature of the arcs was obtained using spectrometers in the visible and UV range. It is shown that the arc emission spectrum is independent of the gas pressure and that it is mainly dominated by the stainless steel components of the test bench. The results of the RF arc optical characterization is discussed with a view on the implementation of an optical arc detection system for an ICRF antenna on a fusion machine, both for sections viewing the plasma light as for private vacuum sections. 相似文献
