Here we report some recent biophysical issues on the preparation of solute-filled lipid vesicles and their relevance to the construction of “synthetic cells.” First, we introduce the “semi-synthetic minimal cells” as the liposome-based cell-like systems, which contain a minimal number of biomolecules required to display simple and complex biological functions. Next, we focus on recent aspects related to the construction of synthetic cells. Emphasis is given to the interplay between the methods of synthetic cell preparation and the physics of solute encapsulation. We briefly introduce the notion of structural and compositional “diversity” in synthetic cell populations.  相似文献

Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) with its nutraceutical characteristics substantially contributes as a major nutrient to the health benefit of the Mediterranean diet. Unfortunately, the adulteration of EVOO with less expensive oils (e.g., peanut and corn oils), has become one of the biggest source of agricultural fraud in the European Union, with important health implications for consumers, mainly due to the introduction of seed oil-derived allergens causing, especially in children, severe food allergy phenomena. In this regard, revealing adulterations of EVOO is of fundamental importance for health care and prevention reasons, especially in children. To this aim, effective analytical methods to assess EVOO purity are necessary. Here, we propose a simple, rapid, robust and very sensitive method for non-specialized mass spectrometric laboratory, based on the matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) coupled to unsupervised hierarchical clustering (UHC), principal component (PCA) and Pearson’s correlation analyses, to reveal corn oil (CO) adulterations in EVOO at very low levels (down to 0.5%).  相似文献

A finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) approach is proposed in order to obtain suitable criteria for the design of a four-element dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) array. The numerical analysis is focused on the study of the electromagnetic coupling phenomena arising between DRA fed by a microstrip-slot transition. Scattering parameters behavior and radiation patterns are determined by taking advantage of the geometrical symmetry of the structure, analyzing only one half or one quarter of the entire domain through two or four separate FDTD runs.  相似文献

Apparently healthy elderly donors were screened according to a simple protocol that included clinical examination and the determination of hematological and biochemical values. This screening was performed to detect subclinical alterations which might interfere with immune responses and trace element status. The elderly were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of 22 (age 76 +/- 1 years) positively selected elderly (PSE), i.e. healthy subjects with no hematological and laboratory alterations, the second one comprised 13 (age 75 +/- 1 years) negatively selected elderly (NSE). Data were then compared with those obtained from 40 (age 35 +/- 2 years) healthy young controls. In both groups of elderly donors, plasma zinc levels were normal, while plasma copper concentrations were increased. Intracellular values of zinc and copper in mono- and polymorphonuclear cells from both groups of elderly were within reference limits. After in vitro activation, granulocyte chemiluminescence activity was impaired only in NSE. A decrement in the number of circulating CD3 lymphocytes and an increase in CD8d, CD57 cells were found in PSE, while NSE showed an increased number of CD3,DR cells and CD8d, CD57, CD8b,CD57 and CD16,CD56 positive cells. Our results indicate that only plasma copper levels were affected by age, whereas subclinical alterations in hematological or biochemical values appear to impair immune responses in the elderly.  相似文献

A very simple and effective algorithm able to predict the frequency response of a multiport device over a wide band, starting from the electromagnetic analysis at some spot frequencies, is derived. Data obtained by the proposed procedure are further processed to extract a Foster's type, lumped element, equivalent circuit, suitable for use as a Spice model of the device.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of deriving an actual coupled-line model from the "spot frequency" characteristics of transmission media derived by means of a numerical electromagnetic simulator. For a given set of coupled lines, possibly asymmetric and lossy, one of the main issues is to recover a model whose parameters are physically and practically meaningful. In order to satisfy the requirements, the model ought to basically yield a natural generalization of the well-known even/odd and c//spl pi/ modes for couples of lines, and collapse to a set of uncoupled lines when coupling is negligible. Hence, part of this study is devoted to discussing and evaluating models that satisfy such requirements. The end result is a Weissfloch-type equivalent circuit made up of uncoupled lines and input and output ideal transformers. The algorithm is then applied to the network parameters of coupled lines. The latter are evaluated by a full-wave method of moments approach, and a subsequent short-open calibration (SOC) procedure. Finally, a new algorithm is introduced that is able to evaluate and remove the contribution of the naked discontinuity due to ports, usually not directly available from the SOC routine.  相似文献

The design of a rectangular waveguide 95 GHz (W-band) triplexer for ground radar systems is presented. The triplexer comprises three in-line filters with inductive irises as coupling elements and a manifold formed by three T-junctions. In particular, the scheme proposed is aimed at handling large powers and reducing losses. The triplexer was assembled and measured, showing very good agreement with the simulated results.  相似文献

Twenty-five 9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes, four phenanthrenes, a dihydrodibenzoxepin, and a pyrene, isolated from the wetland plant Juncus acutus, were tested to detect their effects on the green alga Selenastrum capricornutum. Nine of the compounds were isolated and identified for the first time. Most of the compounds caused inhibition of algal growth. The 9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes 1, 5, 21, and 22 were the most active.  相似文献
