This paper focuses on the distribution of alumino-humic flocs found in a stirred suspension. Distributions were scaled using the transformation u = d/dL in which d is floc diameter and dL its arithmetic mean value and fitted by a gamma distribution. Flocs were treated as monofractal with solids mass concentration specified by C = A'rhos (d/do)D-3 in which A' is a packing coefficient, rhos the density of the floc solids, D the fractal dimension and do a reference size. It was shown that the overall solids concentration (M) complies with the dependence M proportional to NA'dDL-S(D) in which N is the number of flocs per unit volume and S(D) a distribution moment. Initial estimates of A' and D were obtained from analysis of floc sedimentation behaviour. From knowledge of the base parameters, the calculated value of M did not match the measured M and varied with shear. This was attributed to a kinematic influence on C over and beyond changes associated with the response of dL to shear. Issues of self-similarity were examined and it was concluded that distributions did not display strict self-similarity. Data are provided on the size distribution found in the flocculators of a treatment works at full scale.  相似文献

We propose an adaptive neuro‐fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for stock portfolio return prediction. Previous work has shown that portfolio optimization can be improved by using predicted stock earnings rather than historical earnings. We show that predicted portfolio returns can be improved by using ANFIS and taking as input a variety of technical and fundamental attributes about various indices of the stock market. To generate membership functions, we use a robust noise rejection‐clustering algorithm. The neuro‐fuzzy model is tested on portfolios constituted from the Tehran Stock Exchange. In our experiments, the proposed method performs better in predicting the portfolio return than the classical Markowitz portfolio optimization method, a multiple regression, a neural network, and the Sugeno–Yasukawa method. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new adaptive controller design scheme for nonlinear telerobotic systems with varying time delays where the delays and their variation rates are unknown. The designed controller has the ability to synchronize the state behaviors of the local and the remote robots. In this paper, asymptotic stability in the presence of varying time delays is of interest. Using the proposed controller, asymptotic stability of the bilateral telerobotic system subject to any bounded yet unknown varying delay with a bounded yet unknown rate of change can be guaranteed. Besides the varying time delay, the proposed adaptive controller has the ability to adapt to the parameter variations in the local and the remote robots’ dynamics. It is shown that position and velocity errors between the local and the remote manipulators converge to the zero asymptotically, thus ensuring teleoperation transparency. Experimental and simulation results with a pair of PHANToM haptic devices and a pair of planar manipulators under varying time delays in the communication channel demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.  相似文献

The tagged user analysis (TUA) is a generic approximate method developed to analyze random access protocols for finite-user finite-buffer systems that avoids complexities of Markovian analysis by using available queueing results. In this paper, TUA method is extended to the analysis of finite buffer S-ALOHA operating over flat fading radio channels when the user population is spatially distributed. The expressions for system performance indices are derived. It is shown that for moderate number of active users, the simulation and analytical results have a close fit.  相似文献

Advanced forms of hydrogels have many inherently desirable properties and can be designed with different structures and functions. In particular, bioresponsive multifunctional hydrogels can carry out sophisticated biological functions. These include in situ single-cell approaches, capturing, analysis, and release of living cells, biomimetics of cell, tissue, and tumor-specific niches. They can allow in vivo cell manipulation and act as novel drug delivery systems, allowing diagnostic, therapeutic, vaccination, and immunotherapy methods. In the present review of multitasking hydrogels, new approaches and devices classified into point-of-care testing (POCT), microarrays, single-cell/rare cell approaches, artificial membranes, biomimetic modeling systems, nanodoctors, and microneedle patches are summarized. The potentials and application of each format are critically discussed, and some limitations are highlighted. Finally, how hydrogels can enable an “all-in-one platform” to play a key role in cancer therapy, regenerative medicine, and the treatment of inflammatory, degenerative, genetic, and metabolic diseases is being looked forward to.  相似文献

This technique decouples the channel contention behavior from the user queuing behavior and allows the use of classical queuing theory results to be directly applicable to the analysis of finite-user finite-buffer random access methods. In this paper, we extend TUA to analyze finite buffer S-ALOHA operating over flat fading radio channels and derive expressions for system performance indices like throughput, average packet delay, blocking probability and queue length. This paper describes the performance analysis of a cross-flow type plate heat exchanger for use as a liquid desiccant absorber (dehumidifier) and indirect evaporative cooler. The proposed absorber can be described as a direct contact, cross-flow, heat and mass exchanger, with the flow passages separated from each other by thin plastic plates. One air stream (primary air) is sprayed by liquid desiccant solution, while the other stream (secondary air) is evaporatively cooled by a water spray. Each thin plate, besides separating the water/air passage from the solution/air passage, also provides the contact area for heat and mass transfer between the fluids flowing in each passage. A parametric study for the primary air stream at 33°C, 0.0171 kg/kg humidity ratio and secondary air stream at 27°C and 0.010 kg/kg humidity ratio using calcium chloride solution was performed in this study. The results showed a strong dependence on the heat and mass transfer area, solution concentration and ratio of secondary to primary air mass flow rates. However, negligible differences were found between the performance of a counter flow and a parallel flow arrangement. The results demonstrate that the proposed absorber will not offset both the latent and sensible load of the primary air and, therefore, an auxiliary cooler or more dehumidification/indirect evaporative cooling stages will generally be required to meet the sensible and latent load in a typical comfort application.  相似文献
