In the present study of gas–liquid contactors, mean residence/contact time was calculated from knowledge of superficial velocity and the gas phase hold-up, for various gas rates and impeller geometry and speeds, and compared with values obtained from RTD measurements. A new correlation, involving Flow Number, Froude Number, system geometry and the physical properties, is proposed. This uses the authors data and those available in literature.  相似文献

The information model was conceived to address the complexities of managing large volumes of data, processes, designs, and tools that are shared by many business users with differing requirements. Because an information model derives much of its features from data models, the distinction between information modeling and data modeling is sometimes unclear. One perspective is that information modeling is context dependent: when a model is viewed as a representation scheme for users to comprehend, it is an information model. Fiber-matrix interfacial adhesion in thermoplastic composites is generally poor due to the lack of formation of strong covalent and/or ionic bonds between the generally inert thermoplastic resins and the surface of the reinforcing fiber. Adhesion can be improved by forming covalent linkages between the fiber and the matrix by grafting a polymer of appropriate compatibility, molecular weight, and sufficient density onto the surface of the fiber. We have grafted low molecular weight polycarbonate and polymethyl methacrylates onto the surface of carbon fibers and measured an improvement in the level of adhesion ranging from 25% to100% over the ungrafted composites. It was also observed that the level of improvement in adhesion appears to be independent of the molecular weight of the grafted polymer. Examination of the fracture surface of these composites reveals that the failure is cohesive in the matrix for the polymer grafted fiber composites, while it is adhesive for the ungrafted composites.  相似文献

Catechin (CAT) was crosslinked with trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether (TMPTGE) to obtain degradable poly(CAT) particles in a single step. Spherical p(CAT) particles with tens of micrometer size range and an isoelectronic point at pH 1.2 were obtained. The hydrolytic degradation of p(CAT) particles provided sustainable and extended release with 264 mg/g CAT release within 10 days at pH 7.4. The antioxidant capacity of 55.0 ± 0.9 μg/ml gallic acid equivalent in terms of total phenol content, and 0.88 ± 0.3 μmol/g trolox equivalent were estimated for p(CAT) particles displaying strong radical scavenging capability. Blood clotting and hemolysis assays demonstrated dose-dependent blood compatibility revealing higher blood compatibility for p(CAT) particles up to 10 μg/ml concentration. The cytotoxicity results show that p(CAT) particles have almost no toxicity for CCD841 normal colon cells at 250 μg/ml concentration in 24 h incubation time giving ~97% cell viability, whereas CAT molecules only provide ~34% cell viability.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate both the visual realism and the physical accuracy of the 2D mass-spring-damper (MSD) model with general unstructured triangular meshes for the simulation of rigid cloth. For visual realism, the model should, at a minimum, bend smoothly under pure bending load conditions. For physical accuracy, it should bend approximately the same amount and shape as dictated by continuum mechanics. By matching the 2D MSD model with an elastic plate, we obtain a series of constraints on the parameters of the model. We find that for a 2D unstructured MSD model, it is necessary to apply preloads on the springs for accurate modeling of bending resistance. By simultaneously applying the constraints for both visual realism and physical accuracy, we can optimize the parameters of the model to enhance its fidelity. The simulation shows that the deformation of the optimized MSD model with preload is very close to the result obtained by the finite element method (FEM) under either point load condition or pressure load condition. With a much smaller computational burden compared with FEM, the optimized MSD model is especially suitable for real time haptic applications.  相似文献

The lack of continuous soil moisture fields at large spatial scales, based on observations, has hampered hydrologists from understanding its role in weather and climate. The most readily available observations from which a surface wetness state could be derived is the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Microwave Imager (TMI) observations at 10.65 GHz. This paper describes the first attempt to map daily soil moisture from space over an extended period of time. Methods to adjust for diurnal changes associated with this temporal variability and how to mosaic these orbits are presented. The algorithm for deriving soil moisture and temperature from TMI observations is based on a physical model of microwave emission from a layered soil-vegetation-atmosphere medium. An iterative, least-squares minimization method, which uses dual polarization observations at 10.65 GHz, is employed in the retrieval algorithm. Soil moisture estimates were compared with ground measurements over the U.S. Southern Great Plains (SGP) in Oklahoma and the Little River Watershed, Georgia. The soil moisture experiment in Oklahoma was conducted in July 1999 and Little River in June 2000. During both the experiments, the region was dry at the onset of the experiment, and experienced moderate rainfall during the course of the experiment. The regions experienced a quick dry-down before the end of the experiment. The estimated soil moisture compared well with the ground observations for these experiments (standard error of 2.5%). The TMI-estimated soil moisture during 6-22 July over Southern U.S. was analyzed and found to be consistent with the observed meteorological conditions.  相似文献

Recent advances in MIMO degree-of-freedom (DoF) models allowed MIMO research to penetrate the networking community. Independent from MIMO, successive interference cancellation (SIC) is a powerful physical layer technique used in multi-user detection. Based on the understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of MIMO DoF and SIC, we propose to have DoF-based interference cancellation (IC) and SIC help each other so that (i) precious DoF resources can be conserved through the use of SIC and (ii) the stringent SINR threshold criteria can be met through the use of DoF-based IC. In this paper, we develop the necessary mathematical models to realize the two ideas in a multi-hop wireless network. Together with scheduling and routing constraints, we develop a cross-layer optimization framework with joint DoF IC and SIC. By applying the framework on a throughput maximization problem, we find that SIC and DoF IC can indeed work in harmony and achieve the two ideas that we propose.  相似文献

This paper presents a crowding distance particle swarm optimization technique to optimize the design parameters of deep groove ball bearings. The design optimization problem is multi-objective in nature. The considered objectives are maximizing dynamic and static load bearing capacities and minimizing elasto-hydrodynamic film thickness. The technique is applied to bearings used in transmission system of a tractor for the purpose of farming. Pareto optimal solutions are obtained using the proposed technique. The results obtained from the technique are found to be superior compared with NSGA-II and catalogue values.  相似文献

A mathematical model for the continuous packed bed reactive distillation process of esterification of acetic acid with methanol is developed. The kinetic rate equation, which plays a major role for the performance of reactive distillation and it is the part of model, is required for the liquid phase reversible esterification reaction. The mineral sulphuric acid is used as the catalyst. The kinetic experiments are carried out under different temperatures in the range of 305.15 to 333.15 K and catalyst concentrations in the range of 0.1267 mole H+/lit to 0.6537 mole H+/lit. From that experimental data the kinetic model is developed and the same is used for the simulation of reactive distillation process. Equilibrium stage model, in which the vapour and the liquid leaving a stage are assumed to be in equilibrium with each other, has been used for the simulation of reactive distillation process by incorporating our kinetic model. Conversion of acetic acid as function of reflux ratio and reboiler ratio has been predicted. The liquid composition and temperature profiles versus stage number have been also predicted. Finally, the optimum operating conditions obtained from the simulation results for high pure methyl acetate by reactive distillation process.  相似文献
