Dye sensitized solar cells employing natural plant dyes as phosensitizers can be effectively used to train students in the science and technology of solar cells. This is especially relevant to developing countries where facilities for silicon cell fabrication are non-existent. The cross-disciplinary nature of this device makes it very attractive for student projects. The present work describes such a project where anthocyanin dye from hibiscus flowers has been used as the electron harvester.  相似文献

Engineering catalytically active sites have been a challenge so far and often relies on optimization of synthesis routes, which can at most provide quantitative enhancement of active facets, however, cannot provide control over choosing orientation, geometry and spatial distribution of the active sites. Artificially sculpting catalytically active sites via laser-etching technique can provide a new prospect in this field and offer a new species of nanocatalyst for achieving superior selectivity and attaining maximum yield via absolute control over defining their location and geometry of every active site at a nanoscale precision. In this work, a controlled protocol of artificial surface engineering is shown by focused laser irradiation on pristine MoS2 flakes, which are confirmed as catalytic sites by electrodeposition of AuNPs. The preferential Au deposited catalytic sites are found to be electrochemically active for nitrogen adsorption and its subsequent reduction due to the S-vacancies rather than Mo-vacancy, as advocated by DFT analysis. The catalytic performance of Au-NR/MoS2 shows a high yield rate of ammonia (11.43 × 10−8 mol s−1 cm−2) at a potential as low as −0.1 V versus RHE and a notable Faradaic efficiency of 13.79% during the electrochemical nitrogen reduction in 0.1 m HCl.  相似文献

This work looks at the feasibility of a standalone hybrid power generation system for providing power to a rural community in the Pacific Islands. The optimization and sensitivity analysis of a proposed PV/Wind/Diesel hybrid System is performed together with economic analysis. We have used HOMER, a sizing and optimization tool for distributed power system, developed by National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) for our analysis. The sensitivity analysis was done using wind speed data and diesel price as variables. An Ice storage facility having a corrected mean daily load of 60 kWh/day was considered as the stand-alone load. The life cycle cost analysis was done for a number of scenarios with different renewable energy contribution to the total electricity produced.  相似文献

Photoactive iron pyrite (FeS2) films have been grown by sulfurization of sprayed iron oxide films. The structural properties were studied using X-ray diffraction. Specific gravity is a very important factor in determining the economics of wood and wood products. This study is aimed to apply the near infrared spectroscopy technique with integrating sphere and fiber optic probe accessories for fast prediction of specific gravity of green timber (moisture content 27–30 %) of Eucalyptus tereticornis from 10 to 12 year old plantation. Specific gravity (basic density) was determined by conventional method (oven dry wt/green volume) and correlated with near infrared spectra using partial least square (PLS) regression. Calibrations using radial face, tangential face and composite face (both radial and tangential) were developed and compared. Coefficient of determination of cross validation ( $ {\text{r}}_{\text{cv}}^{ 2} $ ) for radial-longitudinal, tangential-longitudinal solid strips samples and composite face (both radial and tangential) was between 0.74–0.77 and 0.64–0.77 using integrating sphere and fiber optic probe, respectively. The coefficient of determination of prediction ( $ {\text{r}}_{\text{p}}^{ 2} $ ) was between 0.73–0.85 (with integrating sphere) and 0.69–0.83 (with fiber optic probe). The ratio of performance deviation (RPD) ranges from 2.06 to 2.46 for all models. Root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) was higher than root mean square error of cross validation (RMSECV). For composite models with radial and tangential face $ {\text{r}}_{\text{cv}}^{ 2} $ / $ {\text{r}}_{\text{p}}^{ 2} $ was 0.74/0.76 using integrating sphere and 0.71/0.83 with fiber optic probe with Quant 2 automatic factors optimization process. The results indicate that the composite model is just as good as the radial and tangential face models and can adequately address the problem where it is difficult to obtain perfect radial or tangential surface, particularly in small girth plantation timber or where surface recognition is difficult.  相似文献

For single end-product master production scheduling with time-varying demand uncertainty and supply capacity, we study approaches to set replenishment quantities over the planning horizon. We present a stochastic programming model along with a simulation-based optimisation and two traditional approaches for setting order quantities. We compare these approaches to two new methods: gamma approximation and safety stock search. Computational experiments show that the gamma approximation and safety stock search perform well in terms of holding and shortage costs, with expected total cost on average, respectively, within 0.06% and 0.66% of the optimal from the stochastic program. On average, the two traditional approaches incur 12% and 45% higher cost than optimal. We provide managerial insights on the effects of parameters such as demand coefficient of variation (cv), utilisation, and target service level on the optimal total cost, the corresponding fill rate, and the relative performance of the approaches. We find that, for finite-normal demand, on average, the impact of target service level on cost is larger than that of demand cv, whose impact is larger than utilisation, except at high utilisation. The sandcastle worm Phragmatopoma californica, a marine polychaete, constructs a tube-like shelter by cementing together sand grains using a glue secreted from the building organ in its thorax. The glue is a mixture of post-translationally modified proteins, notably the cement proteins Pc-1 and Pc-2 with the amino acid, 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl-L-alanine (DOPA). Significant amounts of a halogenated derivative of DOPA were isolated from the worm cement following partial acid hydrolysis and capture of catecholic amino acids by phenylboronate affinity chromatography. Analysis by tandem mass spectrometry and 1H NMR indicates the DOPA derivative to be 2-chloro-4, 5-dihydroxyphenyl-L-alanine. The potential roles of 2-chloro-DOPA in chemical defense and underwater adhesion are considered.  相似文献
