We introduce a versatile framework for characterizing and extracting salient structures in three-dimensional symmetric second-order tensor fields. The key insight is that degenerate lines in tensor fields, as defined by the standard topological approach, are exactly crease (ridge and valley) lines of a particular tensor invariant called mode. This reformulation allows us to apply well-studied approaches from scientific visualization or computer vision to the extraction of topological lines in tensor fields. More generally, this main result suggests that other tensor invariants, such as anisotropy measures like fractional anisotropy (FA), can be used in the same framework in lieu of mode to identify important structural properties in tensor fields. Our implementation addresses the specific challenge posed by the non-linearity of the considered scalar measures and by the smoothness requirement of the crease manifold computation. We use a combination of smooth reconstruction kernels and adaptive refinement strategy that automatically adjust the resolution of the analysis to the spatial variation of the considered quantities. Together, these improvements allow for the robust application of existing ridge line extraction algorithms in the tensor context of our problem. Results are proposed for a diffusion tensor MRI dataset, and for a benchmark stress tensor field used in engineering research.  相似文献

An all-alkoxide route to films and nano-phase powders of the La0.5Sr0.5CoO3 perovskite is described. To our knowledge, this is the first purely alkoxide-based route to (La1− x Sr x )CoO3, and it yields phase-pure and elementally homogeneous perovskite at 700°C by heating at 2°C/min. At 700°C, a cubic unit cell was obtained with a c=3.853Å, and after further heating to 1000°C, a rhombohedral cell could be indexed: a r=5.417 Å, αr=59.94°. Ninety to 130 nm thick films of La0.5Sr0.5CoO3 were obtained by spin coating. The gel-to-oxide conversion was studied in some detail, using thermo-gravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, powder X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscope equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer.  相似文献

The SH2 and SH3 binding partner AFAP-110 is a tyrosine phosphorylated substrate of Src. AFAP-110 has been hypothesized to link Src to actin filaments, which may contribute to the effects of Src upon actin filament integrity. However, it has been unclear what effect activated Src (Src527F) has upon AFAP-110 structure or function and whether AFAP-110 plays a role in actin filament integrity. We report here that the carboxy terminal 127 amino acids of AFAP-110 are comprised of an alpha-helical region that contains a leucine zipper motif. This indicated the potential of AFAP-110 to self-associate. Expression of the carboxy terminus as a fusion protein (GST-cterm) will permit affinity absorption of cellular AFAP-110. The integrity of the alpha-helical leucine zipper motif in GST-cterm is required for affinity absorption, but binding is not due to a classical leucine zipper interaction. Co-expression of Src527F, unlike cSrc, will abrogate affinity absorption of AFAP-110 with GST-cterm. These data indicate that Src527F has affected a change in the carboxy terminal structure that renders AFAP-110 unavailable for affinity absorption. Superose chromatography demonstrate that AFAP-110 will fractionate as a monomer or multimer, indicating AFAP-110 can be detected in a self-associated form in cell lysates. Co-expression of Src527F resulted in AFAP-110 fractionating with a molecular weight that predicts only a multimeric population. Deletional mutagenesis also indicate a biological role for the carboxy terminus in cellular localization and actin filament integrity. Deletion of the entire carboxy terminal alpha-helix (84 amino acids) will not permit AFAP-110 to efficiently colocalize with actin filaments or the cell membrane. Deletion of only the leucine zipper region of the carboxy terminal alpha-helix (44 amino acids) from AFAP-110 (AFAPAdeltazip) demonstrate that both AFAPdeltalzip and actin filaments are repositioned into rosette-like structures, similar to the effects of Src527F, while co-expression of AFAP-110 with cSrc will not affect actin filaments. These data indicate that AFAP-110 can play an important role in modulating actin filament integrity through carboxy terminal interactions that can be affected by Src527F.  相似文献

A new, fast, and automated sample pretreatment technique for determination of lipophilic organic compounds in aqueous samples has been developed and applied to the determination of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in environmental river water. It is based on miniaturized microporous membrane liquid-liquid extraction coupled on-line to gas chromatography (GC) with electron capture detection. The heart of the system that simultaneously connects the sample pretreatment step to the final GC analysis has been named the extracting syringe (ESy). The ESy carries a miniaturized membrane extraction card attached to an electrically and mechanically designed installment and is mounted directly over a GC injector for fully automated injection of the extract. A method was developed to extract 10 PCB congeners from 1-mL water samples (after addition of 40% acetonitrile) with an extraction time of 10 min. The optimized methodology showed good linearity (in the dynamic concentration range of 5 ng L(-)(1)-1 microg L(-)(1)), enrichment factors of 33-40 times, repeatable extractions (RSD 2-5%, n = 4), and low detection limits (2-3 ng L(-)(1)). Acetonitrile had to be added to the samples in order to overcome the influence of PCB adsorption on the repeatability of extraction and enrichment and to minimize the overall memory effect (OME). OME and carryover depended not only on the concentration of the organic solvent added to the sample and that used in the washing procedure but also on whether the extracting card was changed or not. When an optimized washing procedure was applied, the OME was approximately 0.2% at high concentrations (i.e., 1 microg L(-)(1)). When each extraction took place in a new extraction card, no OME was detected. Additionally, no significant adsorption onto glass surfaces or a matrix effect on extraction was noticed. The main features of this methodology are good extraction repeatability, low detection limits at short extraction time, and the unsurpassed characteristic of no detectable OME in the entire system when each sample is processed in a new card. Somatic sensation comprises four main modalities, each relaying tactile, thermal, painful, or pruritic (itch) information to the central nervous system. These input channels can be further classified as subserving a sensory function of spatial and temporal localization, discrimination, and provision of essential information for controlling and guiding exploratory tactile behaviours, and an affective function that is widely recognized as providing the afferent neural input driving the subjective experience of pain, but not so widely recognized as also providing the subjective experience of affiliative or emotional somatic pleasure of touch. The discriminative properties of tactile sensation are mediated by a class of fast-conducting myelinated peripheral nerve fibres--A-beta fibres--whereas the rewarding, emotional properties of touch are hypothesized to be mediated by a class of unmyelinated peripheral nerve fibres--CT afferents (C tactile)--that have biophysical, electrophysiological, neurobiological, and anatomical properties that drive the temporally delayed emotional somatic system. CT afferents have not been found in the glabrous skin of the hand in spite of numerous electrophysiological explorations of this area. Hence, it seems reasonable to conclude that they are lacking in the glabrous skin. A full understanding of the behavioural and affective consequences of the differential innervation of CT afferents awaits a fuller understanding of their function. This paper presents a segmentation method that extends geodesic active region methods by the incorporation of a statistical classifier trained using feature selection. The classifier provides class probability maps based on class representative local features, and the geodesic active region formulation enables the partitioning of the image according to the region information. We demonstrate automatic segmentation results of the myocardium in cardiac late gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) data using coupled level set curve evolutions, in which the classifier is incorporated both from a region term and from a shape term from particle filtering. The results show potential for clinical studies of scar tissue in late CE-MRI data.  相似文献

Duplex grades have, due to balanced chemical compositions of both filler and base metals, a weldability that allows for successful welding using a majority of the technically relevant techniques of today. In order to fulfil the performance requirements several aspects must be considered. In the heat affected zone (HAZ) the austenite reformation must be reasonably high and in the weld metal the microstructure must be stable so that e.g. high productivity welding and multi‐pass welding are possible, without precipitation of detrimental phases in previous passes. This paper addresses the effect of alloying elements and thermal cycles on phase balance in the high temperature HAZ (HTHAZ) of the newly developed lean duplex grade LDX 2101 (EN 1.4162, UNS S32101). Bead‐on‐plate welds and simulated weld structures have been produced and investigated using metallography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results are analysed using the thermodynamic database Thermo‐Calc and a model for phase transformation based on a paraequilibrium assumption for ferrite‐austenite transformation. In the temperature region outside the paraequilibrium domain, growth controlled by diffusion of substitutional elements was considered. The analysis follows a model by Cahn regarding grain boundary nucleated growth and the Hillert‐Engberg model on kinetics of spherical and planar growth.  相似文献

Laser patterning of thin film solar cells has proven technically feasible for all layers but still remains a challenging topic for research and development. We present a method where P2 laser patterning of CIGS thin film solar modules is performed after deposition of the ZnO:Al layer, as opposed to the current state-of-the-art where patterning is performed before the ZnO:Al layer is deposited. This method takes full advantage of the potential of laser processing and works by creating an interconnecting scribe line that “welds” the ZnO:Al and CIGS layers into an electrical contact. In this work we present experimental results of this process on five different sets of CIGS with slightly varying thickness and Cu content. While optimization of the process with respect to the various layers has not been performed, the initial results for CIGS thin film modules show working experimental modules in each set. The best experimental module has a fill factor of 71% and its performance is within the standard deviation of mechanically patterned references. An experimental submodule of 30×30 cm2 size with 10% efficiency was manufactured.  相似文献
