Sustainable management of acidic mining lakes requires knowledge on the origin and reactivity of its sedimentary organic matter. We identified different pools of organic matter (OM) in the Fe-rich sediment (up to 35 wt %) of an acidic (pH 2.8) mining lake using delta13C-signals, C/N ratios, and the markers alkanes, lignin-derived phenols, and benzenepolycarboxylic acids (BPCA). Additionally, a density fractionation was applied to each sediment layer. Three fractions, aquatic (AOM), terrestrial (TOM), and lignite-derived (LOM) organic matter, were discriminated, of which AOM comprises only a small fraction, with a minimum at the sediment bottom. The terrestrial contribution to sedimentary OM is higher than that of AOM but still low throughout the sediment core, whereas lignite-derived OM constitutes the major C-fraction, even in the upper sediment layers. The size of the carbon pools was quantified with a mass-balance approach, in which the BPCA content was utilized as an estimate for the lignite fraction in combination with the delta13C-signals of the three C fractions. The largest amount of OM was found in the heaviest (>2.4 g cm3) of the three density fractions of the two upper sediment layers, which implies strong interaction with iron hydroxides. Comparisons with C-oxidation rates revealed that besides the refractory origin of the OM, sorptive preservation by solid iron phases controls C-reactivity in the sediment and, hence, the internal neutralization capacity of the lake system.  相似文献

In the sleep deprivation/chlorimipramine group a quick and long-lasting remission of depressive symptoms could be demonstrated. Soil nutrient supply in rangelands depends on the maintenance and performance of soil microbiological communities. In this study we investigated how different rangeland management systems affects the structure and function of soil microbial communities in the clayey grassland and sandy savanna ecosystems, South Africa. These ecosystems differ in climate, soil and vegetation, with the sandy savanna ecosystem being drier, and encroached by bush. Soils were sampled under continuous and rotational grazing systems along a gradient with increasing grazing pressure. Analyses comprised of enzyme activities and phospholipid fatty acids (PLFA). The results revealed that the clayey grassland ecosystem displayed elevated enzyme activities and PLFA contents compared with the drier, sandy savanna ecosystem, irrespective of the rangeland management practices, likely because soil texture played a significant role in maintaining microbial communities. However, when microbial activity was normalized to carbon, nitrogen and microbial biomass, specific enzyme activities were significantly higher in the sandy savanna ecosystem, indicating a more efficient functioning of microbes here. Furthermore, these microbial parameters were more sensitive to grazing pressure in the clayey grassland ecosystem than other chemical or physical soil properties, whereas in the sandy savanna ecosystem this was not the case. Decreasing the grazing pressure on rangeland, as, e.g., done by commercial farmers practicing rotational grazing, appeared to stimulate microbial performance and thus microbial mediated nutrient mineralization with positive consequences on plant growth.  相似文献

Light-emitting diodes based on organic semiconductors show promising features for display and lighting applications. A vertical in-line deposition technique for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) manufacturing was developed.OLED devices with electrically doped transport layers show low operating voltage, high efficiency and long lifetime. The preparation of p-i-n type devices was performed with the in-line fabrication tool resulting in highly efficient OLED with low operating voltage. The lowest operating voltage was achieved for green diodes with 2.9 V for 100 cd/m2. This demonstrates that the p-i-n device concept can be applied under manufacturing conditions. In-line manufactured highly efficient red, green and blue OLED are presented.One important aspect for fabrication cost is the used ground contact, which is commonly made by indium tin oxide (ITO). For low cost fabrication an alternative for ITO has to be used. In this work, ITO was replaced by aluminium doped zinc oxide (ZAO). The results are comparable to OLEDs using ITO as transparent conductive oxide.  相似文献
