The modifying effects of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) wood with the crosslinking agent glutaraldehyde (GA) on the water vapor sorption kinetics were studied by curve fitting the experimental isotherm sorption data obtained using a Dynamic Vapor Sorption apparatus using the parallel exponential kinetics model (PEK model) and the Hailwood–Horrobin model (H–H model) for the isotherm. Both the H–H model and the PEK model provided good fits to the experimental data. Modification of wood with GA reduced both the time to equilibrium and the equilibrium moisture content (EMC). According to the PEK and H–H models, the reduction in EMC was mainly due to the decrease of moisture content (MC) associated with the slow sorption processes and polylayer water. The fast sorption processes and monolayer water were little affected by GA modification. Compared to the untreated control, the estimated total water absorbed by wood treated to a WPG of 20.9% at 100% RH decreased by 52.2%, by extrapolating the fitted curves derived from the H–H model. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Configuration management (CM) is not a new set of ideas, what it does represent is an effective way for project managers to use a formalized methodology in order that they can manage status and changes to it throughout the lifecycle. This research sets out to identify and prioritize the obstacles in the effective implementation of the CM practices, categorize these obstacles into more manageable groups of factors, and analyse the effects of multiple factors on the identification and rating of these barriers. Nineteen barriers are finalized and prioritized on the basis of their criticality and as a result three groups (managerial and organizational barriers, implementation barriers, and planning and process barriers) are extracted with the help of factor analysis. This study will help both configuration management and project management professionals to plan better and avoid the impacts of these key obstacles from much earlier in the definition phase.  相似文献

Angiostatin, a proteolytic fragment of plasminogen, inhibits the growth of primary and metastatic tumors by suppressing angiogenesis. When used in combination with ionizing radiation (IR), angiostatin demonstrates potent antitumor synergism, largely caused by inhibition of the tumor microvasculature. We report here the temporal interaction of angiostatin and IR in Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) tumors growing in the hind limbs of syngeneic mice. Tumors with an initial mean volume of 510 +/- 151 mm3 were treated with IR alone (20 Gy x 2 doses on days 0 and 1), angiostatin alone (25 mg/kg/day divided twice daily) on days 0 through 13, or a combination of the two as follows: (a) IR plus angiostatin (days 0 through 13); (b) IR plus angiostatin (days 0 and 1); and (c) IR followed by angiostatin beginning on the day after IR completion and given daily thereafter (days 2 through 13). By day 14, tumors in untreated control mice had grown to 6110 +/- 582 mm3, whereas in mice treated with: (a) IR alone, tumors had grown to 2854 +/- 338 mm3 (P < 0.05 compared with untreated controls); and (b) angiostatin alone, tumors had grown to 3666 +/- 453 mm3 (P < 0.05 compared with untreated controls). In combined-treatment groups, in mice treated with: (a) IR plus longer-course angiostatin, tumors reached 2022 +/- 282 mm3 (P = 0.036 compared with IR alone); (b) IR followed by angiostatin, tumors reached 2677 +/- 469 mm3 (P > 0.05 compared with IR alone); and (c) IR plus short-course angiostatin, tumors reached 1032 +/- 78 mm3 (P < 0.001 compared with IR alone). These findings demonstrate that the efficacy of experimental radiation therapy is potentiated by brief concomitant exposure of the tumor vasculature to angiostatin.  相似文献

With a Hunsdiecker–Barton iododecarboxylation strategy, we converted the carboxylate group of the oseltamivir precursor into exemplary phosphonate monoesters. In all cases, Ki values towards influenza virus sialidase remained in the sub‐nanomolar range. We have thus made valuable structural space available for the design of novel oseltamivir‐based tools for influenza virus research.

Dynamic recrystallization (DRX) occurs during high-temperature deformation in metals and alloys with low to medium stacking fault energies. Previous simulations and experimental research have shown the effect of temperature and grain size on DRX behavior, but not the effect of the grain boundary character distribution. To investigate the effects of the distribution of grain boundary types, experimental testing was performed on stainless steel 316L specimens with different initial special boundary fractions (SBF). This work was completed in conjunction with computer simulations that used a modified Monte Carlo method which allowed for the addition of anisotropic grain boundary energies using orientation data from electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The correlation of the experimental and simulation work allows for a better understanding of how the input parameters in the simulations correspond to what occurs experimentally. Results from both simulations and experiments showed that a higher fraction of so-called “special” boundaries (e.g., Σ3 twin boundaries) delayed the onset of recrystallization to larger strains and that it is energetically favorable for nuclei to form on triple junctions without these so-called “special” boundaries.  相似文献

We present diving data for four whale sharks in relation to a predictable food pulse (reef fish spawn) and an analysis of the longest continuous fine-resolution diving record for a planktivorous shark. Fine-resolution pressure data from a recovered pop-up archival satellite tag deployed for 206 days on a whale shark were analysed using the fast Fourier Transform method for frequency domain analysis of time-series. The results demonstrated that a free-ranging whale shark displays ultradian, diel and circa-lunar rhythmicity of diving behaviour. Whale sharks dive to over 979.5 m and can tolerate a temperature range of 26.4 degrees C. The whale sharks made primarily diurnal deep dives and remained in relatively shallow waters at night. Whale shark diving patterns are influenced by a seasonally predictable food source, with shallower dives made during fish spawning periods.  相似文献

The reaction of softwood thermomechanically pulped fibres with succinic anhydride (SA) and its subsequent reaction with hexamethylene diamine (HMDA) were examined, the latter employing the coupling agents dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, or diisopropylcarbodiimide. FTIR and 13C NMR studies showed amide linkages were produced between SA modified fibres and the diamine. Wood veneers were covalently bonded using this technology. It was found that during hot pressing bonding occurs between SA treated veneers and HMDA without the need for a coupling agent.  相似文献
