Lipid oxidation is a major factor affecting flavor quality and shelf life of vegetable oils. Oxidative stability is therefore an important criterion by which oils are judged for usefulness in various food applications. In this study a method based on headspace analysis was developed to evaluate relative oxidative stability of canola oils. The method does not require the use of chemicals, involves minimal sample preparation, and can be performed on a relatively small sample size in comparison with traditional wet chemical methods. Canola oils freshly extracted in the laboratory from different seed samples were subjected to accelerated oxidation and analyzed for PV by standard methods and headspace volatiles by solid phase microextraction/GC-MS. Forward stepwise regression analysis of the data revealed a relationship between PV and headspace concentration of the volatile lipid oxidation products hexanal and trans,trans-2,4-heptadienal. The PV calculated using this formula correlated (R 2=0.73) with those measured by conventional methods. A simple method for the determination of total sulfur content in vegetable and marine oils is described. The method involves combustion of the oil sample in an oxygen bomb to convert all forms of sulfur to sulfate ions with subsequent determination of the sulfate by ion chromatography and indirect ultraviolet detection. The ultraviolet system described is more sensitive than conductivity detection and enables the method to be applied more widely. Application of the method to a variety of vegetable and marine oils showed the general occurrence of sulfur in fats and oils, albeit often at a low level. Among the samples examined, crude Canola oil had the highest sulfur content (25.0 mg/kg) followed by the marine oils (5.8-15.2 mg/kg) and the non-Cruciferae vegetable oils (2.0-6.1 mg/kg). The effects of genotype and growing environment on the tocopherols and fatty acids (FA) of experimental Brassica juncea and B. napus breeding lines were investigated. For both species, with the exception of a few genotypes, the concentration ratio of γ-tocopherols to α-tocopherol was practically constant. The genotype influenced the tocopherol concentration in B. napus, and to a lesser degree, B. juncea. The environment also had a similar effect, and a positive correlation existed between the daily maximum temperature and the α-tocopherol concentration in B. napus. Genotype effects on the FA composition were significant for the conventional but not for Clearfield or triazine tolerant traits of B. napus. The genotype had no effect on the FA of the B. juncea genotypes. In contrast, the growing environment had a significant influence on the FA composition of both species with apparent influence from temperature and rainfall. For both species, the concentration of γ-tocopherol as well as total tocopherols was inversely related to the 18:3 concentration, which could have resulted from opposite and independent effects of temperature on the two variables. No relationship existed between the concentrations of tocopherol and the remaining unsaturated FA 18:1 and 18:2. The positional distribution of unsaturated FA within the oil triacylglycerol was a function of their total concentration.  相似文献

The Kakiemon-style porcelains made from 17th century at Arita are famous Japanese porcelains, characterized mainly by their colored underglaze and overglaze and by their original design of coloring spatial patterns in the porcelain surface. Raw materials of the red-overglaze enamels have been investigated by means of X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption spectra using synchrotron radiations. It is found that Izumiyama porcelain ceramics of yellow color can produce the Kakiemon red-overglaze enamels by thermal treatment and water-washing, where Izumiyama is a collecting place of the raw porcelain ceramic at Arita. The brightness of the red-overglaze enamels is related on the local structure around Fe ions and the electronic band states of Fe ions near a Fermi level in α-Fe2O3, in addition to the spatial density of the α-Fe2O3 fine particles. The structural and electronic properties are slightly affected by an electron-hybridization between Fe ions of α-Fe2O3 and oxygen ions of the (SiO2–Al2O3) complexes in the red overglaze.  相似文献

Ion irradiation can be used to induce partial crystallization in metallic glasses to improve their surface properties. We investigated the microstructural changes in ribbon Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 metallic glass after 1 MeV Cu-ion irradiation at room temperature, to a fluence of 1.0 × 1016 cm−2. In contrast to a recent report by others that there was no irradiation induced crystallization in the same alloy [S. Nagata, S. Higashi, B. Tsuchiya, K. Toh, T. Shikama, K. Takahiro, K. Ozaki, K. Kawatusra, S. Yamamoto, A. Inouye, Nucl. Instr. and Meth. B 257 (2007) 420], we have observed nanocrystals in the as-irradiated samples. Two groups of nanocrystals, one with diameters of 5–10 nm and another with diameters of 50–100 nm are observed by using high resolution transmission electron microscopy. Experimentally measured planar spacings (d-values) agree with the expectations for Cu10Zr7, NiZr2 and CuZr2 phases. We further discussed the possibility to form a substitutional intermetallic (NixCu1−x)Zr2 phase.  相似文献

Rutherford Backscattering Channeling (RBSC) is often used in the studies of single crystalline materials with regard to issues hinging upon the location of specific atomic species within the crystal lattice. Results are deduced from the characteristics of an angular scan curve representing the yield of close collision events from the constant scattering of the probing projectiles from the crystalline sample in a sequence of directions lying in a plane perpendicular to one particular crystal lattice direction. Such angular scans exhibit dips near major channels, and their angular widths are of concern. On a fundamental level, accurate determination of these angular widths in the case of axial channeling and their interpretation come up against uncertainties arising out of the absence of a preferred choice for the plane of scan. Here, we shall illustrate these uncertainties in a representative case, channeling of 2 MeV He+ ions in the 1 0 0 direction of Si.  相似文献

Canola-quality Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) is being developed as a complimentary oilseed crop to canola (Brassica napus) for cultivation in hot and low-rainfall areas, where canola does not perform well. In Australia, several B. juncea breeding lines have been developed for commercial cultivation and for eventual processing as canola oil. However, there still are significant species-based differences in the fatty acid composition with B. juncea containing lower levels of linoleic acid and higher levels of oleic and linolenic acids compared with B. napus. This has raised concern about possible oxidative stability differences between the oils. Oils (unrefined) extracted from different breeding lines of each species were subjected to accelerated autoxidation, and development of oxidative rancidity was assessed by four separate techniques: depletion of polyunsaturated fatty acids, depletion of tocopherol, development of primary oxidation products, and development of secondary oxidation products (propanal and hexanal). All the tests showed that the newly developed B. juncea oils are more stable to autoxidation than conventional canola (B. napus) oil, despite containing marginally higher linolenic levels. Oxidative stability does not appear to be a barrier to using oils from these emerging lines of B. juncea for partial or full replacement of conventional canola oil.  相似文献
