Motion picture films are susceptible to local degradations such as dust spots. Other deteriorations are global such as intensity and spatial jitter. It is obvious that motion needs to be compensated for before the detection/correction of such local and dynamic defects. Therefore, we propose a hierarchical motion estimation method ideally suited for high resolution film sequences. This recursive block-based motion estimator relies on an adaptive search strategy and Radon projections to improve processing speed. The localization of dust particles then becomes straightforward. Thus, it is achieved by simple inter-frame differences between the current image and motion compensated successive and preceding frames. However, the detection of spatial and intensity jitter requires a specific process taking advantage of the high temporal correlation in the image sequence. In this paper, we present our motion compensation-based algorithms for removing dust spots, spatial and intensity jitter in degraded motion pictures. Experimental results are presented showing the usefulness of our motion estimator for film restoration at reasonable computational costs. PURPOSE: Little is known about the developmental effects of high urinary diversion and bladder defunctionalization in infancy. Although clinical experience shows that a poorly functional bladder may result from urinary diversion in infancy, the mechanisms of change and specific bladder wall alterations have not been well characterized. We hypothesized that cyclic filling and emptying are necessary for normal bladder development. To investigate this important question we created a new animal model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We designed a new method of hemibladder urinary diversion in 3-week-old New Zealand white rabbits. After vertical midline bladder division half of the bladder was formed into a functional reservoir, which remained in continuity with the ipsilateral ureter and urethra. The other bladder half was defunctionalized and isolated from the urine flow by ureteral ligation. Diversion was created for 3, 7, 14 and 28 days. Urodynamic evaluation was done in the functionalized hemibladders and age matched normal rabbit bladders to test the validity of the functionalized hemibladder as an internal control. Functional and defunctionalized hemibladders as well as age matched, nonoperated normal rabbit bladders were weighed, sectioned and stained to demonstrate muscle and connective tissue components. RESULTS: In 22 of the 27 healthy rabbits (81%) good quality diverted and functional bladder specimens were obtained after diversion. Defunctionalized hemibladders grew more slowly than functionalized bladders and normal age matched control bladders. Histological staining of the bladder wall demonstrated increased connective tissue between the muscle bundles within the diverted specimens than in functional bladders. CONCLUSIONS: Our successful model of urinary diversion may be used to study the developmental and histological effects of urinary diversion in the young bladder. Bladder growth and histological appearance are altered when the stimulus of cyclic filling and emptying is removed. Further studies using this model are warranted to define fully bladder changes that result from diversion and investigate the mechanism of the observed changes.  相似文献

The skin, skeleton and a fat-filled swim bladder of the orange roughy (Hoplostethus atlanticus) each contained greater than 20% lipid by wet weight which was almost entirely wax esters. These had carbon numbers of 34–40 consistent with the major fatty acid being 18∶1 and the major fatty alcohols being 16∶0, 18∶1, 20∶1 and 22∶1. In contrast, the liver and the roe contained appreciable quantities of glycerolipids with 18∶1 and 22∶6 as the major fatty acids.  相似文献

Additives stabilize or improve the organoleptic or functional properties (or both) of many dairy products including whipping cream. Their influence on the metabolic effect of dairy cream is scarcely known. We tested the hypothesis that added emulsifier (lactic acid esters of mono- and diglycerides; MAG/DAG), thickener (carrageenan, CGN), or both, could modify the metabolic effect, notably in the intestine and liver. Nine-week-old male C57Bl/6J mice were fed UHT cream (indirect treatment) mixed with nonlipidic powder (final: 13% milkfat) for 1 or 4 wk. We compared creams (1) without additive (Ctl), (2) with thickener (Th), 0.02% of κ-CGN, and (3) with both thickener and emulsifier, 0.1% of MAG/DAG esters (Th/Em). We analyzed plasma parameters, intestine, and liver. Fasting glycemia, insulinemia, triglyceridemia, nonesterified fatty acids, body weight gain, and liver weight did not differ among groups. After 1 wk, Th/Em had higher expression in the duodenum of some of the genes involved in (1) intestinal lipid absorption and (2) tight junction proteins versus Ctl and Th. After 4 wk, mucus cell number in the small intestine was higher in Th/Em versus Ctl and Th. Genes involved in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in the duodenum were more expressed in Th/Em after 1 wk. After 4 wk, in the colon, a higher expression of ER stress genes was observed for Th versus Th/Em and Ctl. Liver damage score was not altered by additives. Adding both CGN (0.02%) and MAG/DAG esters (0.1%) in dairy cream did not result in deleterious outcomes in mice after 4 wk regarding lipid metabolism, intestinal permeability, and liver disorders. The longer term effect of intestinal ER stress modulation deserves further investigation.  相似文献

In non-differentiated NG108-15 cells, both angiotensin II (Ang II) (100 nM) and CGP 42112 (100 nM) decreased the T-type calcium current amplitude by 24 +/- 2% and 21 +/- 3%, respectively. cGMP is not a mediator of the Ang II effect, since loading of cells with 50 microM cGMP did not prevent the inhibitory effects of Ang II. The effects of Ang II involves a non-identified GTPase activity since incubation with GDP beta S (3 mM) completely reversed the inhibitory effect of Ang II while GTP gamma S mimicked its effect. However, Ang II binding was not affected by GTP gamma S, and the effect of Ang II was not modified in pertussis toxin-treated cells. The inhibitory effect of Ang II on the T-type Ca2+ current involves a phosphotyrosine phosphatase activity since sodium orthovanadate prevented the effects of Ang II, although microcystin-LR, a selective Ser/Thr phosphatase 1 and 2A inhibitor, did not modify the effect of Ang II. These results provide the first evidence of a modulation of membrane conductance by Ang II through the AT2 receptor and demonstrate the involvement of a phosphotyrosine phosphatase and a G protein in the AT2 transduction mechanism in NG108-15 cells. Moreover, our data suggest that phosphotyrosine phosphatase activation is proximal to receptor occupation, since sodium orthovanadate inhibits both GTPase activity and T-type current blockage induced by Ang II or CGP 42112, while GTP gamma S inhibition of the T-type calcium current is not impaired.  相似文献
