In time-division multiple-access (TDMA) systems, the autonomy of portable handsets is a major constraint. We propose a new method, conditional equalization, which minimizes the power consumption due to equalization by equalizing only when it is most needed. At each time slot, the receiver estimates the need for equalization with a deterministic criterion. The proposed criteria use thresholds, chosen to provide a compromise between loss in performance and percentage of saved equalization. The performance of our method is theoretically analyzed for two-path Rayleigh fading channels and simulated for the recommended COST 207 channels. Conditional equalization can ensure a degradation in the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), providing a fixed bit error rate (BER with an average SNR=9 dB with systematic equalization), of less than 0.5 dB while providing a gain of 43% spared equalization for bad urban (BU), 62% for hilly terrain (HT), 79% for typical urban (TU), and 98% for rural area (RA) models, respectively. Conditional equalization is shown to greatly improve the autonomy of the receiver by drastically reducing the power consumption due to equalization, without a noticeable loss in the performance 相似文献

Summary Weld metals solidified in the ferritic-austenitic solidification mode (FA mode) have dual phases of ferrite and austenite in their as-solidified condition, where ferrite exhibits different morphologies depending on the chemical composition and welding conditions. This paper describes an investigation of the effect of the solidification and transformation sequence on the formation of final ferrite morphologies. Austenite is formed through either a eutectic reaction or peritectic reaction at the dendrite boundaries after the primary formation of ferrite. During the eutectic formation of austenite, the <100>δ direction of the primary ferrite and the <100>γ direction of the eutectic austenite are parallel to each other and lie along the growth direction of the primary dendrites. However, any specific lattice plane relationship between the two phases is not identified. During cooling after solidification, the austenite extends into the primary ferrite via solid-state transformation, and the final morphology of the ferrite is vermicular without any coherent orientation relationship between the primary ferrite and eutectic austenite. During peritectic formation of austenite, the Kurdjumov-Sachs orientation relationship is established between the primary ferrite and peritectic austenite, and the <100>γ direction of the peritectic austenite is not parallel to the growth direction of the primary dendrites. During cooling after solidification, the primary ferrite transforms into austenite, and the final morphology of the ferrite is lathy, since the primary ferrite and peritectic austenite have a favourable coherent orientation. 相似文献

Optical fiber has evolved from a not-so-transparent glass tube to an extraordinarily efficient transmission medium. It is now acknowledged as a central element of modern telecommunication being part of the whole optimization process to further improve transmission system performance and cost. Forty-eight heifers (3 mo old) were subjected for 35 wk to twice daily s.c. injections of saline or human somatotropin-releasing factor (5 microgram.kg-1 BW) and photoperiod of 8 h (short day) or 16 h (long day) of light daily according to a 2 X 2 factorial design. There was no treatment effect on slaughter weight, withers height, and carcass length. Somatotropin-releasing factor increased thymus weight, metacarpal length, and protein content of the carcass but decreased carcass fat content. Long day photoperiod increased chest girth, pituitary weight, and carcass yield. Effects of somatotropin-releasing factor and photoperiod were not additive on volume of mammary parenchymal tissue; there was also a treatment interaction on liver and lung weights. However, extraparenchymal mammary tissue was decreased by human somatotropin-releasing factor and short day photoperiod. In conclusion, use of somatotropin-releasing factor and photoperiod treatments affected carcass parameters and composition and mammary growth. 相似文献

We describe the development of a novel combined approach for high-throughput analysis of multiple DNA targets based on multiplex Microdroplet PCR Implemented Capillary gel electrophoresis (MPIC), a two-step PCR amplification strategy. In the first step, the multiple target DNAs are preamplified using bipartite primers attached with universal tail sequences on their 5'-ends. Then, the preamplified templates are compartmentalized individually in the microdroplet of the PCR system, and multiple targets can be amplified in parallel, employing primers targeting their universal sequences. Subsequently, the resulting multiple products are analyzed by capillary gel electrophoresis (CGE). Using genetically modified organism (GMO) analysis as a model, 24 DNA targets can be simultaneously detected with a relative limit of detection of 0.1% (w/w) and absolute limit of detection of 39 target DNA copies. Spore germination is a defined developmental process that marks a critical point in the life cycle of Dictyostelium discoideum. Upon germination the environmental conditions must be conducive to cell growth to ensure survival of emerged amoebae. However, the signal transduction pathways controlling the various aspects of spore germination in large part remain to be elucidated. We have used degenerate PCR to identify dhkB, a two-component histidine kinase, from D. discoideum. DhkB is predicted to be a transmembrane hybrid sensor kinase. The dhkB-null cells develop with normal timing to give what seem to be mature fruiting bodies by 22 to 24 h. However, over the next several hours, the ellipsoidal and encapsulated spores proceed to swell and germinate in situ within the sorus and thus do not respond to the normal inhibitors of germination present within the sorus. The emerged amoebae dehydrate due to the high osmolarity within the sorus, and by 72 h 4% or less of the amoebae remain as spores, while most cells are now nonviable. Precocious germination is suppressed by ectopic activation of or expression of cAMP-dependent protein kinase A. Additionally, at 24 h the intracellular concentration of cAMP of dhkB- spores is 40% that of dhkB+ spores. The results indicate that DHKB regulates spore germination, and a functional DHKB sensor kinase is required for the maintenance of spore dormancy. DHKB probably acts by maintaining an active PKA that in turn is inhibitory to germination. 相似文献

Although Theodor Reik was a celebrated psychoanalyst during the 1950s and 1960s, his work has not resulted in the development of a specific psychoanalytic tradition, and his name has gradually disappeared from Western cultural memory. Following the mode of argumentation of the reductio ad absurdum, the author critically examines six possible explanations for this remarkable observation, thereby drawing on published materials and archival sources relating to the life and works of Reik. Once these explanations have been discarded, the author argues that the main reason for the absence of a Reikian tradition within psychoanalysis stems from Reik's belief in the analytic virtue of intellectual independence. This belief may have contributed to his own departure from the psychoanalytic training institution that he helped to create, yet it also implies that Reikian psychoanalysis somehow lives on in all those practitioners who do not seek to affiliate with a doctrinal school of thought.
