Saturated copolyester were prepared by copolyesterification of bis-1,4-(dicarboxymethoxy) benzene and phthalic anhydride with diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, tetraethylene glycol, 1,4-butane diol, 1,2-propane diol, and 1,6-hexamethylene glycol. Also, unsaturated copolyesters were prepared by copolyesterification of bis-1,4-(dicarboxymethoxy) benzene and maleic anhydride with the same glycols. All the copolyester resins obtained have been characterized and unsaturated copolyesters in the form of films were determined. IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy were used for both qualitative and quantitative analysis of the copolyesters resins and their hydrolyzate products, after curing with styrene. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Two published theoretical models are examined and applied to experimental results for absorption and desorption. The system used was CO2/H2O and studies were made for liquid film flow down inclined planes. Experimental results give “Reduced” values of mass ransfer rates.

Interferometric studies give interfacial concentration, penetration and film depths, and take-up of carbon dioxide. In the case of desorption the interferograms are distorted by “deflections.”

All the experimental values for absorption and desorption differ from those calculated from theoretical models.

Desorption is not a mirror image of absorption, and it is approximately 75% of the transfer rate of absorption over a wide operating range.

A comparison is made of the behaviour of static pools and flowing liquid films.  相似文献

A trial was made to design and prepare rubber article that can be used to reactivate, strengthen, and reinforce the hand muscles and fingers which had suffered from trouble movement. The investigated rubber article was prepared from natural and acrylonitrile rubber formulations. These formulations were processed in the form of compounds which contain significant quantities of fillers such as Hisil, CaCO3, and TiO2. The rheological characteristics and physicochemical properties of the vulcanizates were determined according to standard tests. It was found that it is possible to prepare the designated rubber article for the desired purpose. The test results showed that the prepared rubber article had good chemical resistance against acid, alkali, and salt. This rubber also possessed high resistance to deterioration and deformation. The prepared article had an ability to retain its elastic property after the action of compressive forces at 70°C for 24 h. This property was confirmed by its application in commercial therapeutic hand-exercise article.  相似文献

The paper reports the results of an extensive numerical simulation to estimate the elastic buckling pressure and the corresponding thrust and bending moment induced in loosely fitted thin liners. The study is conducted numerically using a two-dimensional (2D) non-linear finite element model that accounts for the effects of large deformations on the stability of loosely fitted liners. The finite element results together with a non-linear multi-variant regression analysis are used to develop simplified non-dimensional formulae that provide the critical pressure, thrust and bending moments, at buckling, based on the liner’s geometry and material properties.In addition, several other analytical and numerical solutions for the same problem are revisited and critically reviewed. For comparison purposes, two of such methods are extended to allow for the calculation of the thrust and bending moment developed at the most heavily stressed point in the loosely fitted liners at the onset of buckling. In general, the comparison reveals the appropriateness of the proposed regression models in predicting the critical pressure and the associated thrust and bending moment induced in imperfect loosely fitted liners. Developed formulae provide designers with a simple and reliable means for ensuring stability and safety of such special type of structures.  相似文献

Soil-steel culverts have been successfully used as a cheap alternative to the conventional steel or reinforced/pre-stressed concrete bridges. Current design codes and researchers usually approximate the effect of live loads on such soil-steel culverts. In this study, three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) analyses of two existing soil-steel culverts are performed and compared to the published theoretical and experimental results. The study shows that the results of the 3D FE analyses for the thrusts compare well with the experimentally measured ones with differences less than 30%. On the other hand, the FE results for bending moments show less agreement which may be due to the sensitivity of the bending moments to the accurate modeling of the properties of the soil material. The study also shows that the effect of the live loads extends for a very limited longitudinal length of the examined corrugated steel culverts and validates the use long prismatic longitudinal geometry in performing their 3D FE analysis.  相似文献

In the present work, power up-grading study is performed, for the first Egyptian Research Reactor (ET-RR-1), using the present fuel basket with 4×4 fuel rods, (17.5 mm pitch), and a proposed fuel basket with 5×5 fuel rods, (14.0 mm pitch), without violating the thermal hydraulic safety criteria. These safety criteria are; fuel centerline temperature (fuel melting), clad surface temperature (surface boiling), outlet coolant temperature, and maximum heat flux (critical heat flux ratio). Different thermal reactor powers (2–10 MW) and different core coolant flow rates (450, 900, 1350 m3 h−1) are considered. The thermal hydraulic analysis was performed using the subchannel code COBRA-IIIC for the estimation of temperatures, coolant velocities and critical heat flux. The neutronic calculations were performed using WIMS-D4 code with 5 — group neutron cross section library. These cross sections were adapted to use in the two-dimensional (2-D) diffusion code DIXY for core calculations. The study concluded that ET-RR-1 power can be upgraded safely up to 4 MW with the present 4×4-fuel basket and with the proposed 5×5-fuel basket up to 5 MW with the present coolant flow rate (900 m3 h−1). With the two fuel arrays, the reactor power can be upgraded to 6 MW with coolant flow rate of 1350 m3 h−1 without violating the safety criterion. It is also concluded that, loading the ET-RR-1 core with the proposed fuel basket (5×5) increases the excess reactivity of the reactor core than the present 4×4 fuel matrix with equal U-235 mass load and gave better fuel economy of fuel utilization.  相似文献

Polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan/silver (PVA/CS/Ag) nanocomposite membranes were synthesized by γ-radiation with promising antimicrobial and biomedical applications. The nanocomposite membranes were prepared by mixing PVA and CS solutions with different copolymer compositions in the presence of silver nitrate (AgNO3) and glutaraldehyde as cross-linker, followed by in situ reduction with γ-radiation at different doses. The nanocomposite membranes were characterized by ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV), Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). UV studies showed a strong peak around λ max at 430 nm due to surface plasmon resonance of silver nanoparticles formed during irradiation. As the irradiation dose increased from 25 to 75 kGy, the plasmon band is shifted from 430 to 418 nm with high intensity, indicating the formation of smaller particles. TEM investigation showed uniform distribution of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in the membranes with mean diameter of 32–19 nm. XRD results confirmed that the mean diameter of AgNPs estimated from the Debye–Scherrer formula was in the range of 27.5–12.8 nm which confirms the TEM results. The PVA/CS/Ag nanocomposite membranes exhibited good antibacterial activity and were found to cause significant reduction in microbial growth. The nanocomposite membranes showed non-thrombogenicity effect and slightly haemolytic potential, suggesting their promising use in biomedical applications.  相似文献

Direct radiation-induced grafting of acrylonitrile (AN) onto both isotactic polypropylene (IPP) and (tetrafluoroethylene–ethylene) copolymer (ET) films has been studied. The effect of grafting conditions such as inhibitor and monomer concentrations and irradiation dose on the grafting yield was investigated. Homopolymerization of acrylonitrile was reduced to a minimum using ferric chloride (FeCl3), and the suitable optimum concentration of the inhibitor was found to be 0.1 wt%. The higher the monomer concentration, the higher the degree of grafting obtained. It was observed that the degree of grafting onto IPP was higher than onto ET, at given grafting conditions. The effect of aging on IPP was also examined. IR spectroscopy showed that IPP was susceptible to photooxidation by aging. The swelling behaviour and electrical conductivity of the graft and hydrolysed graft films were investigated. The electrical conductivity was improved by hydrolysis of polyacrylonitrile in the graft chains.  相似文献

Radiation-induced graft polymerization of acrylic acid onto poly(tetrafluoroethylene–perfluorovinyl ether) copolymer films has been prepared using γ-irradiation by the mutual method. The grafted copolymer rapidly complexes with rhodium ions through the carboxylic groups. The complexation process was followed by measuring the variation of the pH of aqueous RhCl3 solution of several concentrations as a function of time. Spectroscopic, electrical, optical, thermal, and diffraction measurements have been investigated. The results revealed the high stability of the ligand–metal complex formed. The adsorption of crude oil (initial concentration 0.5-30 g/L) from aqueous solution using hydrogel of chitosan based polyacrylamide (PAM) prepared by radiation induced graft polymerization has been investigated. The prepared hydrogel was characterized by FTIR and SEM micrographs. The experiments were carried out as a function of different initial concentrations of oil residue, acrylamide concentration, contact time and pH to determine the optimum condition for the adsorption of residue oil from aqueous solution and sea water. The results obtained showed that the hydrogel prepared at concentration of 40% acrylamide (AAm) and at a radiation dose of 5 kGy has high removal efficiency of crude oil 2.3g/g at pH 3. Equilibrium studies have been carried out to determine the capacity of the hydrogel for adsorption of crude oil, Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to describe the experimental isotherms and isotherms constants. Equilibrium data were found to fit very well with both Freundlich and Langmuir models. Also the adsorption of oil onto the hydrogel behaves as a pseudo-second-order kinetic models rather than the pseudo-first-order kinetic model.  相似文献
