Organic acids in the gas and aerosol phase from photooxidation of 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene in the presence of 300 ppb propene and 300 ppb NOx in smog chamber experiments were determined using a wet effluent diffusion denuder/aerosol collector coupled to ion chromatography (IC) with conductivity detection. Behind the IC, the samples were collected using a fraction collector, for identification of unresolved/unidentified organic acids with IC-mass spectrometry (MS). In total, 20 organic acids were found with MS of which 10 were identified. The organic acids identified offline by IC-MS were then further quantified based on the online IC data. The identification was additionally confirmed with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. At the maximum aerosol concentration, organic acids comprised 20-45% of the total aerosol mass. The method has a detection limit of 10-100 ng/m3 for the identified carboxylic acids.  相似文献

The decomposition of leaves from Cordia africana Lam. and Albizia gummifera G. F.Gmel was investigated during the wet and dry seasons at Wondo Genet (Ethiopia). Litterbags of leaves were buried in soils under farmland and shaded-coffee agroforestry systems. Residual matter was recovered after 4, 8, 12, and 16 weeks and analysed for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), cellulose, lignin, soluble polyphenol and condensed tannin content. Mass-loss and release of N, polyphenols and condensed tannins were greater from Albizia leaves than from Cordia leaves, suggesting that a high polyphenol content does not necessarily retard decomposition. The rates of mass loss and release of the majority of leaf constituents were considerably faster during the wet season than during the dry season. Lignin decomposition, however, proceeded more rapidly during the dry season, and no significant seasonal differences were observed for polyphenol decomposition. The decomposition kinetics of most leaf components during the wet season were best described by a single-exponential model, but a quadratic model provided the best fit during the dry season. Initial leaf chemistry and season were important decomposition factors, while land-use effects were negligible. However, land-use effects showed distinct seasonal differences, with leaf litter decomposing more rapidly in soil under shaded-coffee than under farmland management, especially during the wet season. This study also demonstrated that polyphenol content does not show the predictive effects it has been attributed to have and that other constituents, such as condensed tannins, would be better suited for this purpose.  相似文献

This study examined the physical, nutritional and antioxidant properties of popular Zimbabwean bambara groundnut landraces and the effects of different processing methods on their chemical properties. The physical, nutritional and antioxidant properties of grains of the bambara landraces differed significantly with grain type, and the processing methods investigated had varying effects on the chemical properties of the grains. Bambara had significantly lower protein content than the reference common bean. Protein and carbohydrate content of the grains increased upon dehulling, while tannin (approx. 36%), total phenolic content (approx. 83%) and antioxidant activities (approx. 18%) decreased. Roasting alone seemed to have little or no effect on the nutrient content of the grains, while sifting significantly reduced the phenolic content and antioxidant activity of all the dehulled and roasted samples. The results indicate that roasting bambara grains would be a suitable method as it is relatively more conservative of nutrients and antioxidants than the other methods investigated.  相似文献

Mastitis in dairy cows is an unavoidable problem and genetic variation in recovery from mastitis, in addition to susceptibility, is therefore of interest. Genetic parameters for susceptibility to and recovery from mastitis were estimated for Danish Holstein-Friesian cows using data from automatic milking systems equipped with online somatic cell count measuring units. The somatic cell count measurements were converted to elevated mastitis risk, a continuous variable [on a (0–1) scale] indicating the risk of mastitis. Risk values >0.6 were assumed to indicate that a cow had mastitis. For each cow and lactation, the sequence of health states (mastitic or healthy) was converted to a weekly transition: 0 if the cow stayed within the same state and 1 if the cow changed state. The result was 2 series of transitions: one for healthy to diseased (HD, to model mastitis susceptibility) and the other for diseased to healthy (DH, to model recovery ability). The 2 series of transitions were analyzed with bivariate threshold models, including several systematic effects and a function of time. The model included effects of herd, parity, herd-test-week, permanent environment (to account for the repetitive nature of transition records from a cow) plus two time-varying effects (lactation stage and time within episode). In early lactation, there was an increased risk of getting mastitis but the risk remained stable afterwards. Mean recovery rate was 45% per lactation. Heritabilities were 0.07 [posterior mean of standard deviations (PSD) = 0.03] for HD and 0.08 (PSD = 0.03) for DH. The genetic correlation between HD and DH has a posterior mean of ?0.83 (PSD = 0.13). Although susceptibility and recovery from mastitis are strongly negatively correlated, recovery can be considered as a new trait for selection.  相似文献

A lipopeptide biosurfactant was produced by the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain LBP9 isolated from petroleum-contaminated soil. Phenanthrene, fluoranthene, and pyrene were used as model polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to study the effect of the biosurfactant on the biodegradation of mixed and sole substrate PAHs, and examine substrate interactivity effects on their biodegradation in liquid culture. At 400 mg/L amendment of lipopeptide, the solubility of phenanthrene, fluoranthene, and pyrene were increased to 19, 33, and 45 times their aqueous solubility, respectively, and the extent of substrate utilization rate (qmax?) of PAHs was enhanced up to three-fold in the sole substrate studies in comparison to the unamended controls. In the ternary PAH mixture at total concentration of 300 mg/L, with equal parts of each PAH, 77%, 57%, and 33% degradation of phenanthrene, fluoranthene, and pyrene were observed, respectively, at 400 mg/L lipopeptide amendment on day 30 of incubation. Whereas in the sole substrate experiments at 300 mg/L concentration of each PAH and the same level of lipopeptide amendment more than 98% fluoranthene and 76% pyrene were degraded and phenanthrene removal was so rapid that at day 4 of incubation more than 80% was degraded. Biosurfactants at optimum amounts enhanced biodegradation of PAHs. Lipopeptide amendments of 200 mg/L and 400 mg/L were found out to be optimum amounts for statistically significant (p < 0.05) biodegradation of the PAHs in the experiments. However, despite biosurfactant-enhanced bioavailability of the PAHs, biodegradation rate was competitively inhibited in the multisubstrate microcosms.  相似文献

The overall aim of this work was to characterise the major angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory peptides produced by enzymatic hydrolysis of whey proteins, through the application of a novel integrative process. This process consisted of the combination of adsorption and microfiltration within a stirred cell unit for the selective immobilisation of β-lactoglobulin and casein-derived peptides (CDP) from whey. The adsorbed proteins were hydrolysed in situ, which resulted in the separation of peptide products from the substrate and fractionation of peptides. Two different hydrolysates were produced: (i) from CDP (IC50 = 287 μg/mL) and (ii) from β-lactoglobulin (IC50 = 128 μg/mL). The well-known antihypertensive peptide IPP and several novel peptides that have structural similarities with reported ACE inhibitory peptides were identified and characterised in both hydrolysates. Furthermore, the hydrolysates were assessed for bitterness. No significant difference was found between the bitterness of the control (milk with no hydrolysate) and hydrolysate samples at different concentrations (at, below and above the IC50).  相似文献
