Project planning practices based on enterprise resource planning systems in small and medium enterprises — A case study from the Republic of Macedonia

This paper examines whether Macedonian SMEs plan for the implementation of ERP projects and studies the effect of project planning practices on project success. Four project planning measures were taken into consideration: business case development, scope planning, baseline plan development and risk planning along with three measures of project success; customer satisfaction, perceived quality of the project and success of the implementation process. The study was based on a survey that was conducted on 30 SMEs in the Republic of Macedonia. Data dimensionality was reduced through factor analysis and relationships between the two sets of variables were analyzed by correlation and regression analyses. The findings demonstrated that Macedonian SMEs implemented general project planning practices, even though they did not consider the planning process as a separate phase of the ERP implementation. However, they did not use any particular project planning tools, such as the Gantt chart or WBS. Of the project planning practices that were surveyed, the most practiced were the development of a business case, project scope and baseline plan. The least practiced were risk planning practices. Considering the success of the ERP implementations, this study demonstrated that most of the companies' representatives perceive this undertaking as successful in terms of client satisfaction and perceived quality measures. A higher percentage of respondents found their ERP implementations unsuccessful in terms of implementation process measures, when compared to the previous two success parameters.     

Radiotherapy of High-Grade Gliomas: First Half of 2021 Update with Special Reference to Radiosensitization Studies

Albeit the effort to develop targeted therapies for patients with high-grade gliomas (WHO grades III and IV) is evidenced by hundreds of current clinical trials, radiation remains one of the few effective therapeutic options for them. This review article analyzes the updates on the topic “radiotherapy of high-grade gliomas” during the period 1 January 2021–30 June 2021. The high number of articles retrieved in PubMed using the search terms (“gliom* and radio*”) and manually selected for relevance indicates the feverish research currently ongoing on the subject. During the last semester, significant advances were provided in both the preclinical and clinical settings concerning the diagnosis and prognosis of high-grade gliomas, their radioresistance, and the inevitable side effects of their treatment with radiation. The novel information concerning tumor radiosensitization was of special interest in terms of therapeutic perspective and was discussed in detail.     

Role of computerized tomography in the evaluation of extraductal extension of hilar cholangiocarcinoma

This study was aimed at assessing the role of CT in the investigation of extraductal spread of hilar cholangiocarcinoma. October 1990 to November 1993, twenty-one patients with hilar cholangiocarcinoma were examined. The diagnosis was made on the basis of the following CT findings: intrahepatic bile ducts dilatation, nonunion of the right and the left bile ducts, normal size of extrahepatic bile ducts and the tumor depicted "per se". As for extraductal spread, we considered parenchymal invasion, involvement of vascular structures and parenchymal, lymph node and peritoneal metastases. In all cases CT demonstrated intrahepatic bile duct dilatation and nonunion at the confluence. CT demonstrated a hypodense mass in 10/21 cases and an isodense mass in 11/21 cases. Portal vein involvement was detected in 7/10 cases and hepatic artery involvement was correctly suspected in 1/8 cases; CT demonstrated parenchymal and lymph node metastases in 1/6 and 2/7 cases. In conclusion, CT proved to be a valuable technique, like PTC and US, to assess tumor resectability.
