A total of 360 Japanese quail of 4 commercial meat-type lines and two diet treatments (260 and 216 g/kg or 238 and 195 g/kg of crude protein (CP) in the starter and grower diet, respectively) were used. 2. The positive effect of a high CP diet on body weight was significant only for the first 4 weeks after hatching. 3. The mean age at inflection point of the growth curve (t+) across lines and sexes was 1.4 d (0.6 to 2.8 d within line/sex groups) earlier for quail fed on a high CP diet than in quail receiving a low CP diet. The inflection (y+) and asymptotic (A) weights were similar under both dietary protein concentrations. Nevertheless, the shape of the growth curve, characterised by the ratio y+/A and parameter of the maturing rate k, was significantly influenced by diet. 4. A higher food intake and less efficient food conversion were found for quail fed on a high CP diet in the period from 15 to 28 d of age. 5. The fattening traits such as body weight, cumulative food intake and food conversion, were not affected by dietary CP content at the age of 5 weeks. 6. The effects of line on body weight, food intake and food conversion are discussed.  相似文献

Parameters of haemostasis, endothelial cell markers and lipid peroxide levels were studied in 64 Type 1 (insulin-dependent) and 94 Type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetic patients according to their urinary albumin excretion rate in comparison with age-matched control subjects. We determined plasma levels of fibrinogen (Clauss' method), coagulation factor VII:activity (clotting assay), factor VII antigen, protein C and S antigen, von Willebrand factor antigen, D-dimer concentration (ELISA), and lipid peroxide levels (thiobarbituric acid) in relation to urinary albumin excretion rate (RIA). Significant positive correlations were found between urinary albumin excretion rate and plasma fibrinogen (p < 0.005, p < 0.02), factor VII activity (p < 0.0002, p < 0.002), factor VII antigen (p < 0.0001, p < 0.001), protein C (p < 0.003, p < 0.05), and lipid peroxides (p < 0.02, p < 0.004) in Type 1 as well as in Type 2 diabetes. Von Willebrand factor (p < 0.001) and protein S (p < 0.0005) correlated with albuminuria only in patients with Type 1 diabetes. Although most of the haemostatic abnormalities are already found in normoalbuminuric patients, the significant positive correlations to urinary albumin excretion indicate that endothelial cell damage and coagulation disorders deteriorate with the progression of diabetic nephropathy.  相似文献

We investigate the collective memories of two samples drawn in 1991, one from the former West Germany and one from Yokohama, Japan. In the early 1990s such samples included many members of World War II cohorts and also cohorts born long after that war had ended. We consider the relation of age, conceptualised as birth cohort, to the salience of memories of national and world events that were mentioned as important in response to a quite general open-ended question about the past half-century. The relations are similar across the two countries in so far as external events like World War II might have had similar impacts on each population, while each country is distinctive with regard to events that especially impinged upon it. Hypotheses about the importance of adolescence and early adulthood to the imprinting of memories are generally confirmed, but several types of evidence suggest the need to extend the delimiting ages to earlier than the mid-teens and later than the mid-twenties. Other evidence indicates the desirability of distinguishing between recent events that are the focus of media attention and earlier events that depend more fully on autobiographical memory.  相似文献

Matrix metalloproteinases are thought to be key players in the remodelling activity of cells associated with both physiological and pathological processes. They share a relatively conserved structure with a number of identifiable modules linked to their specific functions. The structure of the individual domains of a number of matrix metalloproteinases have now been elucidated. Here we review these data in the light of complementary studies on the behaviour of these enzymes in biological systems. In particular we focus on the C-terminal hemopexin-like domain which has intriguingly specific roles in individual matrix metalloproteinases.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of changes in membrane-voltage on intracellular sodium concentration ([Na+]i) of dopamine-sensitive neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta in a slice preparation of rat mesencephalon. Whole-cell patch-clamp techniques were combined with microfluorometric measurements of [Na+]i using the Na+-sensitive probe, sodium-binding benzofuran isophthalate (SBFI). Hyperpolarization of spontaneously active dopamine neurons (recorded in current-clamp mode) caused the cessation of action potential firing accompanied by an elevation in [Na+]i. In dopamine neurons voltage-clamped at a holding potential of -60 mV elevations of [Na+]i were induced by long-lasting (45-60 s) voltage jumps to more negative membrane potentials (-90 to -120 mV) but not by corresponding voltage jumps to -30 mV. These hyperpolarization-induced elevations of [Na+]i were depressed during inhibition of I(h), a hyperpolarization-activated inward current, by Cs+. Hyperpolarization-induced elevations in [Na+]i might occur also in other cell types which express a powerful I(h) and might signal lack of postsynaptic activity.  相似文献

A model system for the study of structural and chemical properties of monolayers and multilayers of vanadium oxide immobilized on titania is presented. Investigation of the planar oxide-oxide interface by XP, UV and IS spectroscopy indicated that vanadium immobilized by a single impregnation step exists as an incomplete heterogeneous layer containing well dispersed V4+ species. Increase of the vanadia loading by multiple impregnations led to vanadia agglomerates with higher apparent oxidation state of the vanadium. TD spectroscopy with O2 and CO2 as probe molecules revealed that the chemical reactivity of the vanadia surface species depends on their structure. The surface containing well-dispersed vanadia species exchanged oxygen more easily and showed pronounced interactions with CO2.  相似文献

Titania-supported vanadia catalysts were modified by addition of antimony oxide for application in o-xylene selective oxidation to phthalic anhydride. It was shown that active and selective catalysts can be prepared by ball-milling mixtures of powders of TiO2, V2O5and Sb2O3followed by calcination. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy proves the formation of highly dispersed overlayers of vanadium oxide and antimony oxide, in which V5+is partially reduced to lower oxidation states and Sb3+is partially oxidized to Sb5+. Antimony oxide segregated into the outermost surface layers. It is therefore inferred that the presence of the antimony oxide modifier spatially separates V–O species and leads to site isolation which may be responsible for the positive effect of the modifier for the catalyst's selectivity.  相似文献
