The Anaerobic digestion model 1 (ADM1) framework can be used to predict fermentative hydrogen production, since the latter is directly related to the acidogenic stage of the anaerobic digestion process. In this study, the ADM1 model framework was used to simulate and predict the process of fermentative hydrogen production from the extractable sugars of sweet sorghum biomass. Kinetic parameters for sugars’ consumption and yield coefficients of acetic, propionic and butyric acid production were estimated using the experimental data obtained from the steady states of a CSTR. Batch experiments were used for kinetic parameter validation. Since the ADM1 does not account for metabolic products such as lactic acid and ethanol that are crucial during the fermentative hydrogen production process, the structure of the model was modified to include lactate and ethanol among the metabolites and to improve the predictions. The modified ADM1 simulated satisfactorily batch experiments although further modifications could be made in order to further improve the predictions for the hydrogenogenic process.  相似文献

Renewable energy sources have received increased interest from the international community with biomass being one of the oldest and the most promising ones. In the concept of exploitation of agro-industrial residues, the present study investigates the pre-treatment and ethanol fermentation potential of the olive pulp, which is the semi solid residue generated from the two-phase processing of the olives for olive oil production. Wet oxidation and enzymatic hydrolysis have been applied aiming at the enhancement of carbohydrates' bioavailability. Different concentrations of enzymes and enzymatic durations have been tested. Both wet oxidation and enzymic treatment were evaluated based on the ethanol obtained in a subsequent fermentation step by Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Thermoanaerobacter mathranii. It was found that a four-day hydrolysis time was adequate for a satisfactory release of glucose and xylose. The combination of wet oxidation and enzymatic hydrolysis resulted in the glucose and xylose concentration increase of 138 and 444%, respectively, compared to 33 and 15% with only enzymes added. However, the highest ethanol production was obtained when only enzymic pre-treatment was applied, implying that wet oxidation is not a recommended pre-treatment process for olive pulp at the conditions tested. It was also showed that increased dry matter concentration did not have a negative effect on the release of sugars, indicating that the cellulose and xylan content of the olive pulp is relatively easily available. The results of the experiments in batch processes clearly emphasize that the simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) mode is advantageous in comparison with the separate hydrolysis and fermentation (SHF) mode concerning process contamination.  相似文献

The kinetics of non-enzymatic browning (NEB) in honey and diluted honey systems was investigated. The effect of αw (in the range of 0.54–0.99) on brown pigment formation in honey and its diluted solutions, differing in the concentration of reactant solutes was monitored upon heating at four temperatures (50, 60, 70 and 80 °C). The progression of the Maillard reaction was followed by spectrophotometric measurements at 420 nm (A420) and the absorbance–time curves were fitted to the logistic model. The processing temperature and water activity, or the initial reactant concentration, had a significant impact on browning kinetics and the color change of honey. Secondary models, expressing the dependence of the best fitted primary model parameters on temperature and αw, were further developed. In addition, an alternative method of expressing the temperature dependence of browning rate constants using the WLF kinetic formalism, based on the glass transition temperature, Tg, was applied. The main secondary models were validated by comparing the predicted model parameters with those obtained from isothermal experiments. Finally, the derived kinetic model was further evaluated against the observed browning responses of honey under dynamic heating conditions to examine the applicability of the developed model over fluctuating temperature–time protocols.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to assess the influence of substrate concentration on the fermentative hydrogen production from sweet sorghum extract, in a continuous stirred tank bioreactor. The reactor was operated at a Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) of 12 h and carbohydrate concentrations ranging from 9.89 to 20.99 g/L, in glucose equivalents. The maximum hydrogen production rate and yield were obtained at the concentration of 17.50 g carbohydrates/L and were 2.93 ± 0.09 L H2/L reactor/d and 0.74 ± 0.02 mol H2/mol glucose consumed, corresponding to 8.81 ± 0.02 L H2/kg sweet sorghum, respectively. The main metabolic product at all steady states was butyric acid, while ethanol production was high at high substrate concentrations. The experiments showed that hydrogen productivity depends significantly on the initial carbohydrate concentration, which also influences the distribution of the metabolic products.  相似文献

High performance Cu2ZnSnSe4 (CZTSe) photovoltaic materials were synthesized by electrodeposition of metal stack precursors followed by selenization. A champion solar cell with 7.0% efficiency is demonstrated. This is the highest efficiency among all of the CZTSe solar cells prepared from electrodeposited metallic precursors reported to‐date. Device parameters are discussed from the perspective of material microstructure and composition in order to improve performance. In addition, a high performance electrodeposited CZTS (S only) solar cell was demonstrated and its device characteristics were compared against the CZTSe (Se only) cell. Using secondary ion mass spectrometry for the analysis of the chemical composition of the absorber layer, a higher concentration of oxygen in the electrodeposited absorber is thought to be the root cause of the lower performance of the electrodeposited CZTS or CZTSe solar cells with respect to a solar cell fabricated by evaporation. The grain boundary areas of Sn‐rich composition are thought to be responsible for the lower shunt resistance commonly observed in CZTSe devices. We measured the longest minority carrier lifetime of 18 ns among all reported kesterite devices. This work builds a good baseline for obtaining higher efficiency earth‐abundant solar cells, while it highlights electrodepositon as a low cost and feasible method for earth‐abundant thin film solar cell fabrication. Biological production of hydrogen gas has received increasing interest from the international community during the last decade. Most studies on biological fermentative hydrogen production from carbohydrates using mixed cultures have been conducted in conventional continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTR) under mesophilic conditions. Investigations on hydrogen production in reactor systems with attached microbial growth have recently come up as well as investigations on hydrogen production in the thermophilic temperature range. The present study examines and compares the biological fermentative production of hydrogen from glucose in a continuous stirred tank type bioreactor (CSTR) and an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket bioreactor (UASB) at various hydraulic retention times (2–12 h HRT) under mesophilic conditions (35 °C). Also the biohydrogen production from glucose in the CSTR at mesophilic and thermophilic (55 °C) temperature range was studied and compared. From the CSTR experiments it was found that thermophilic conditions combine high hydrogen production rate with low production of microbial mass, thus giving a specific hydrogen production rate as high as 104 mmole H2/h/l/gH2/h/l/g VSS at 6 h retention time compared to a specific hydrogen production rate of 12 mmole H2/h/l/gH2/h/l/g VSS under mesophilic conditions. On the other hand, the UASB reactor configuration is more stable than the CSTR regarding hydrogen production, pH, glucose consumption and microbial by-products (e.g. volatile fatty acids, alcohols etc.) at the HRTs tested. Moreover, the hydrogen production rate in the UASB reactor was significantly higher compared to that of the CSTR at low retention times (19.05 and 8.42 mmole H2/h/lH2/h/l, respectively at 2 h HRT) while hydrogen yield (mmole H2/mmoleH2/mmole glucose consumed) was higher in the CSTR reactor at all HRT tested. This implies that there is a trade-off between technical efficiency (based on hydrogen yield) and economic efficiency (based on hydrogen production rate) when the attached (UASB) and suspended (CSTR) growth configurations are compared.  相似文献

The kinetics of non-enzymatic browning in apple juice concentrates were investigated. The effect of aw (in the range of 0.74–0.99) and/or reactant concentration on brown pigment formation was monitored under isothermal heat treatment at four temperatures (60, 70, 80 and 90 °C) in apple juice solutions having either the same or different concentrations of reactant solutes. The extent of the Maillard reaction was evaluated by spectrophotometric measurements at 420 nm (A420). The absorbance–time curves were fitted to five different kinetic models (zero and first order, weibull, logistic and the parabolic model) and estimates of browning rate constants and other model parameters were obtained. Regression analysis revealed that the logistic model was the most appropriate for describing browning in apple juice. The initial reactant concentration, but not water activity, had a significant effect on the colour change of apple juice. The processing temperature also had a strong impact on browning kinetics. Secondary models, expressing the dependence of the best fitted primary model parameters on temperature and aw, were further developed and validated by comparing the predicted model parameters with the values observed in independent isothermal experiments. Finally, the derived model was further evaluated against the observed browning responses of apple juice under dynamic heating conditions, underlining the applicability of the developed model as a practical prediction tool for the study of non-enzymatic browning.  相似文献

Mapping Urban Water Demands Using Multi-Criteria Analysis and GIS   总被引:8,自引:2,他引:6  
A multi-criteria spatial data analysis method is presented to seek and model major determinants of future growth of urban water demands based on the urban growth trend by a case study performed in the city of Mytilene (Lesvos island) in north-eastern Aegean archipelagos, Greece. Domestic water use/demand is a complex element of socio-economic and physical characteristics, urban planning strategies, infrastructures and public water policies. Under a GIS environment, these factors correspond to different thematic layers, such as road network distance, distance from the city centre, distance from the coastline, topographic slope, land use/land cover, General Urban Plan of Mytilene, areas in which buildings with less than two storeys are allowed, the respective areas of buildings with more than two storeys, present population density and existing water supply and sewerage system. The Analytical Hierarchy Process applied in the evaluation of these factors led to spatial potential water demand map, which was classified into five priority zones. Results showed that a large percentage of the study area was identified as very high and high priority areas for future domestic water demand. The applied method was verified against the prepared maps showing the varying rates of water consumption and active water connections. The comparative evaluation of these maps validated the accuracy of the proposed method which can be used by the local officials of Mytilene in adopting policies and strategies aiming towards sustainable water resource management and development.  相似文献
