A finite element formulation and the solution of a set of nonlinear coupled heat and mass transfer equations for a two-phase system with a moving evaporation interface is presented. The interface condition takes into account the moisture transfer balance at the moving boundary. The finite element results were compared with existing results for a single phase system for model validation. In the two-phase system, the movement of evaporation front has an appreciable effect on the temperature and moisture distribution inside the porous medium during drying. The effect of the nondimensional heat of vapourization parameter γ on the evaporation front, temperature and moisture distribution in porous medium was studied. The higher the value of γ, the slower is the movement of the evaporation front. The temperature decreased and the moisture content increased as the nondimensional vapourization parameter γ increased. This model has potential applications in studying the heat and mass transfer characteristics in food and biomaterials.  相似文献

A combination of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and multivariate statistics as a screening tool for the determination of beet medium invert sugar adulteration in three different varieties of honey is discussed. Honey samples with different concentrations of beet invert sugar were scanned using the attenuated total reflectance (ATR) accessory of the Bio‐Rad FTS‐6000 Fourier transform spectrometer. The spectral wavenumber region between 950 and 1500 cm?1 was selected for partial least squares (PLS) regression to develop calibration models for beet invert sugar determination in honey samples. Results from the PLS (first derivative) models were slightly better than those obtained with other calibration models. Predictive models were also developed to classify beet sugar invert in three different varieties of honey samples using discriminant analysis. Spectral data were compressed using the principal component method, and linear discriminant and canonical variate analyses were used to detect the level of beet invert sugar in honey samples. The best predictive model for adulterated honey samples was achieved with canonical variate analysis, which successfully classified 88–94 per cent of the validation set. The present study demonstrated that Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy could be used for rapid detection of beet invert sugar adulteration in different varieties of honey. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The oxides of transition metals are an important class of semiconductors, which have applications in electronics, magnetic storage media, solar applications and catalysis. Among them, CuO has attracted much attention due to its widespread applications. In this paper, a facile synthesis of rice shaped CuO nanostructures have been prepared by reflux method for battery application using Copper nitrate and ammonia as precursors. Samples were prepared at three different reaction timings namely 6, 12 and 24 h. The as-prepared samples were calcinated at 400 °C to ensure the formation of copper oxide. The final products were subjected to X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, FT-IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy in order to study the effect of reaction time on the properties of the prepared copper oxide nanostructures. It is found that at controlled reaction time rice shaped CuO nanostructures are obtained. Cyclic voltammogram was recorded to understand the electrocatalytic behaviors of the rice shaped CuO sample prepared under optimized condition.  相似文献

The possibility of using the whole spectra (wave numbers between 4000 and 850 cm−1) from Fourier transform infrared attenuated total reflectance spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR) to differentiate between good, marginal and unacceptable oils with regard to various intensities of oil rancidity was investigated. Fresh, used, and discarded oils were collected from several fast food restaurants from each frying cycle for 4 weeks. Dielectric constant, peroxide value, free fatty acid content, and density of oil samples significantly (P<0.01) increased with frying time. The correlation (r) between FTIR absorbance at 3300 cm−1 and free fatty acid content was from 0.84 to 0.94 for oils from the three restaurants. Similarly, the correlation between FTIR absorbance at 3471 cm−1 and peroxide value was from 0.90 to 0.97. The results of principal component analysis using the whole spectra (4000-850 cm−1) showed good discrimination and stability for identification between acceptable, marginal and unacceptable frying oils.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A set of coupled heat, mass, and pressure transfer equations was used to describe the moisture adsorption process in gmn kernels. The finite element method was used to solve the system of equations. The technique was applied to analyze the temperature, moisture, and pressure distribution in a barley kernel during soaking with steep water. The temperature and moisture distributions with (heat, mass, and pressure transfer model) and without (heat and mass uansfer) the effect of pressure were simulated for assumed conditions. The results obtained from the heat, mass, and pressure transfer model show a marked difference from the results obtained from the heat and mass transfer model. This indicated that a pressure gradient exists during the transfer Process, causing additional moisture movement due to filtration effect. Hence. the pressure tern cannot be assumed constant during the moisture adsorption process. The simulated temperature, moisture and pressure profiles and gradients can be used for determining the optimum time required for solking kernels with sleep water to produce barley malt.  相似文献

Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) and Fourier transform infrared photoacoustic spectroscopy (FTIR-PAS) were used to study particle size and distribution of sucrose powder. Partial least squares (PLS) regression was used to correlate spectral data with particle size. FTIR-PAS spectra were similar to the spectra obtained using DRIFTS when the sample is mixed with 95% potassium bromide (KBr). Both DRIFTS and FTIR-PAS methods can successfully predict the mean panicle size and concentration in binary and quaternary mixtures. R-square values for both DRIFTS and FTIR-PAS are greater than 0.9.  相似文献

Adulteration of honey with sugars is the most crucial quality assurance concern to the honey industry. The application of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy as a screening tool for the determination of the type of sugar adulterant in honey was investigated. Spectra of honey adulterated with simple and complex sugars were recorded in the mid-infrared range using the attenuated total reflectance accessory of a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. Adulterants considered were sugars (glucose, fructose and sucrose) and invert sugars (cane invert and beet invert). Predictive models were developed to classify the adulterated honey samples using discriminant analysis. Spectral data were compressed using principal component analysis and partial least-square methods. Linear discriminant analysis was used to discriminate the type of adulterant in three different honey varieties. An optimum classification of 100% was achieved for honey samples adulterated with glucose, fructose, sucrose and beet and cane invert sugars. Results demonstrated that discriminant analysis of the spectra of adulterated honey samples could be used for rapid detection of adulteration in honey.  相似文献

Pulsed UV light and infrared heat-treated Staphylococcus aureus cells were analyzed using transmission electron microscopy to identify the cell damage due to the treatment process. A 5-s treatment with pulsed UV light resulted in complete inactivation of S. aureus even after enrichment. The temperature increase during the pulsed UV light treatment was insignificant, which suggested a nonthermal treatment. S. aureus was also infrared heat treated using an infrared heating system with six infrared lamps. Five milliliters of S. aureus cells in phosphate buffer was treated at 700°C lamp temperature for 20 min. The microscopic observation clearly indicated that there was cell wall damage, cytoplasmic membrane shrinkage, cellular content leakage, and mesosome disintegration after both pulsed UV light and infrared treatments. Fourier transform infrared microspectrometry was successfully used to classify the pulsed UV light and infrared heat-treated S. aureus by discriminant analysis.  相似文献

A two-dimensional finite-element formulation and solution of a set of transient coupled heat and diffusive moisture transfer equations is presented. The solution procedure developed uses an alpha family of approximation for stepping in time for the solution of the coupled set of equations applied to simulate the stepwise convective drying behavior of banana slices. The model tested was validated with experimental data from different sources for stepwise drying of banana using a heat pump dryer (HPD) as well as continuous batch drying in both Cartesian and cylindrical coordinate systems. The maximum deviation of moisture content between experimental and simulation results was 0.05% wet basis (% w.b.). Good agreement of the simulated results with experimental data for stepwise as well as continuous convective drying of banana samples indicates the validity of the procedure and its incorporation in the optimization of drying processes.  相似文献

A Fourier transformed near-infrared (FT-NIR) method for rapid determination of cholesterol in dairy products was demonstrated. FT-NIR spectrum of pure cholesterol was characterized and the region between 3550 and 3650 cm−1 was found to be the most significant in cholesterol content determination. The FT-NIR method was found to accurately predict the cholesterol content in a variety of dairy products with r 2 value greater than 0.98 and SEP estimates of less than 1.70. The FT-NIR procedure with suitable multivariate statistical model was further validated by recovery studies and compared with a conventional method. Results indicate that FT-NIR has the potential for rapid estimation of cholesterol.  相似文献
