In many applications, the joint effect of two continuous covariates on the target binary response may vary across groups defined by levels of a given factor. A testing procedure that would enable this type of surface-by-factor interactions to be detected has been designed. To accomplish this goal, a logistic generalized additive model (GAM) with bivariate continuous interactions varying across groups defined by levels of a factor is considered. A local scoring algorithm based on local linear kernel smoothers was implemented to estimate the proposed logistic GAM. Bootstrap resampling techniques were used for the purpose of testing for factor-by-surface interactions. Given the high computational cost involved, binning techniques were used to speed up computation in the estimation and testing processes. The adequacy of the bootstrap-based test was assessed by means of a simulation study. If a factor-by-surface interaction is detected in the model, it is then established that the use of the odds-ratio curves is very useful in obtaining a direct interpretation of the fitted model. The benefits of using this methodology when analyzing real data are illustrated by applying the technique to the outputs produced by a computerized system dedicated to the early detection of breast cancer.  相似文献

Wool-polyester-fibre and particularly wool-nylon blends show a significant negative deviation of limiting-oxygen index (LOI) from the average, calculated values. This is probably due to the higher heat of combustion and lower LOI of polyester fibre and particularly of nylon when compared with wool.

Consequently, wool-rich blends with nylon are more difficult to flame-resist-treat with metal complexes than wool-polyester-fibre blends. In the former blend, at least 75% flame-resistant wool and in the latter blend 60–90% flame-resistant wool has to be present to enable flame-resistant wool-rich blends to be obtained, the exact amount depending on the fabric construction. The hexafluorozirconate treatment is effective on blends containing at least 85% wool, whereas zirconium-tungsten complexes have to be applied for blends with lower wool contents.  相似文献

The in vitro radiosensitivity of dermal fibroblasts has been found to vary between individuals, and a number of studies have also shown that this parameter correlates with radiation-induced late injuries in clinical radiotherapy. In addition, certain genetic disorders are known to effect radiosensitivity, e.g. normal tissues of patients homozygous or heterozygous for the ataxia teleangiectasia gene show unusual sensitivity to radiation both in vivo and in vitro. Thus, it has been assumed that there is a genetically determined component resulting in a certain intrinsic cellular radiation response in an individual. To study this possible relationship between different cells of a specific patient, we established eight pairs of dermal and tumor fibroblast cultures. The donor patients had either adenocarcinoma of the uterus or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the head and neck. The radiosensitivity of these strains was determined by a 96-well plate clonogenic assay, previously used by us for radiosensitivity testing of cancer cells. From a paired comparison, the values for the cell fraction surviving 2.0 Gy (SF2), of both fibroblast strains, were found to be on the same level in five out of eight cases. In patient 6, the SF2 of tumor fibroblasts was significantly higher than that of dermal fibroblasts (P=0.0014). In two additional cases the tendency was the same, but not statistically significant. As groups, the two types of fibroblasts did not differ from each other, mean SF2 values of 0.24+/-0.07 and 0.21+/-0.05, respectively. The SF2 of tumor fibroblasts from SCC patients proved to be significantly higher than that of the adenocarcinoma patients (P=0.030). These preliminary results indicate that the in vitro radiosensitivity of tumor fibroblasts correlates with normal cell sensitivity in many cases, but not in all. The radiosensitivity of tumor fibroblasts also seems to follow the level of in vitro radiosensitivity determined for the corresponding histological type of tumor cells. Further studies are needed to determine more closely the relationship between the radiosensitivities of tumor cells and tumor fibroblasts, thus evaluating the possibility of testing radiosensitivity from tumor fibroblasts in order to estimate tumor response.  相似文献

The functionalities of the JPEG2000 standard have led to its incorporation into digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM), which makes this compression method available for medical systems. In this study, we evaluated the compression of mammographic images with JPEG2000 (16 : 1, 20 : 1, 40 : 1, 60.4 : 1, 80: 1, and 106 : 1) for applications with a computer-aided detection (CAD) system for clusters of microcalcifications. Jackknife free-response receiver operating characteristic (JAFROC) analysis indicated that differences in the detection of clusters of microcalcifications were not statistically significant for uncompressed versus 16: 1 (T = -0.7780; p = 0.4370), 20 : 1 (T = 1.0361; p = 0.3007), and 40 : 1 (T = 1.6966; p = 0.0904); and statistically significant for uncompressed versus 60.4 : 1 (T = 5.8883; p < 0.008), 80 : 1 (T = 7.8414; p < 0.008), and 106 : 1 (T = 17.5034; p = < 0.008). Although there is a small difference in peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) between compression ratios, the true-positive (TP) and false-positive (FP) rates, and the free-response receiver operating characteristic (FROC), figure of merit values considerably decreased from a 60 : 1 compression ratio. The performance of the CAD system is significantly reduced when using images compressed at ratios greater than 40 : 1 with JPEG2000 compared to uncompressed images. Mammographic images compressed up to 20 : 1 provide a percentage of correct detections by our CAD system similar to uncompressed images, regardless of the characteristics of the cluster. Further investigation is required to determine how JPEG2000 affects the detectability of clusters of microcalcifications as a function of their characteristics.  相似文献

Solid material is often the main product of chemically reacted coal. In this study, elemental analysis and infrared molecular spectroscopy were therefore used for characterizing the structural changes during reaction. Three seam coals were oxidized in a controlled gas-solid reaction at different temperatures. A group analysis provided detailed quantitative figures on composition versus time of reaction. Assuming first-order reaction, values for rate constants, apparent energies of activation and frequency factors were calculated, and mechanisms of reaction have been proposed for different oxidation steps.  相似文献

The overall flammability hazard of Zirpro wool protective clothing, carpets and upholstery with regard to national and international standards is summarized. Protective clothing against heat and flames has to be evaluated not only for flame-retardance by a vertical flame test but also for heat transfer from convective (flames), radiant and conductive (molten metal) heat exposure to ensure a realistic assessment of the potential protective offered and required. Textile furnishings (carpets, upholstery, curtains) have to be evaluated for flame-retardance, heat release, smoke emission and toxicity of combustion products to assess the overall flammability hazard. Evaluation and consideration of only on e flammability parameter, e.g. toxicity of combustion products, can lead to misleading conclusions about the flammability hazard of a material.  相似文献

Quantum confinement of graphene Dirac-like electrons in artificially crafted nanometer structures is a long sought goal that would provide a strategy to selectively tune the electronic properties of graphene, including bandgap opening or quantization of energy levels. However, creating confining structures with nanometer precision in shape, size, and location remains an experimental challenge, both for top-down and bottom-up approaches. Moreover, Klein tunneling, offering an escape route to graphene electrons, limits the efficiency of electrostatic confinement. Here, a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) is used to create graphene nanopatterns, with sub-nanometer precision, by the collective manipulation of a large number of H atoms. Individual graphene nanostructures are built at selected locations, with predetermined orientations and shapes, and with dimensions going all the way from 2 nm up to 1 µm. The method permits the patterns to be erased and rebuilt at will, and it can be implemented on different graphene substrates. STM experiments demonstrate that such graphene nanostructures confine very efficiently graphene Dirac quasiparticles, both in 0D and 1D structures. In graphene quantum dots, perfectly defined energy bandgaps up to 0.8 eV are found that scale as the inverse of the dot’s linear dimension, as expected for massless Dirac fermions.  相似文献
