A new TiO2-containing bioactive glass and glass-ceramics based on 50SiO2-(45-X)CaO-(XTiO2)-5P2O5 system was designed using a sol–gel technique (where X = 5, 7.5 and 10 wt %). The roles of the crystallization behavior and physicochemical characteristics of the designed glass and glass-ceramics which were played in the introduction of TiO2 substitutions were investigated. Moreover, cell proliferation and differentiation were evaluated against human osteosarcoma cells (Saos-2). The TiO2/CaO replacements led to the formation of a stronger glass structure and thus increased thermal parameters and the chemical stabilization of the designed materials. The FTIR data confirmed the existence of Ti within the glass and glass-ceramics samples, and no remarkable effect on their chemical integrity was observed. The XRD patterns indicated that calcium-containing minerals, including Ca2SiO4,Ca3(PO4)2, Ca(Ti,Si)O5, CaTiSiO5, and Ca15(PO4)2·(SiO4)6 phases were developed as a role of structure/texture under the applied heat-treatment. The results of the cytotoxicity test proved that a safe sample dose is 12–50 μg/ml, at which cell viability is ≥ 85%. The cell differentiation determined by ALP test proved the superiority of glass-ceramics compared with their native glasses. Therefore, the obtained materials could be safely used as novel biocompatible materials for the regeneration of bone tissue.  相似文献

In this paper, abrasion of high volume fly ash (HVFA) concretes made with 50% and 70% of cement replacement with fly ash was assessed in terms of its relation to flexural tensile strength. Comparisons were made between normal Portland cement (NPC) concrete and fly ash concrete. Comparisons were also made between fly ash concretes. Investigation results have shown that the abrasion resistance increased as flexural tensile strength increased. Analysis of the results showed that, for concrete with tensile strength of greater than 4–5 MPa, the abrasion resistance of HVFA concrete with 70% replacement with cement was found to be higher than that of counterpart control NPC concrete and concrete made with 50% fly ash. The comparison between the relation of abrasion to compressive strength and abrasion to flexural tensile strength made in terms of R2 of the linear regression showed that a stronger relation existed between abrasion and flexural tensile strength than that of abrasion to compressive strength of the concrete studied.
Résumé L'étude a pour but d'estimer la relation entre la résistance à l'usure avec la résistance à la traction en flexion des bétons contenant de 50% et 70% de cendres volantes. On a comparé le béton pur au béton contenant des cendres volantes. Des comparaisons ont été faites également entre les différents bétons contenant des cendres volantes. Les resultats de la recherche ont montré que la résistance à l'usure augmente à mesure que la résistance à la traction en flexion de 4∼5 MPa ont une résistance à l'usure plus grande s'ils contienneint 70% de cendres volantes que s'ils étaient purs ou contenaient 50% de cendres volantes. La comparaison entre les relation de la résistance à l'usure en compression et de la résistance à l'usure en traction a été établie en termes de R2 de la régression linéaire. On a prouvé qu'une relation plus forte a été obtenue entre la résistance à l'usure et la résistance à la traction en flexion par rapport à la résistance à l'usure en compression du béton étudié.

In this paper, the results of a laboratory investigation conducted with heat evolution of high-volume fly ash (HVFA) concrete are presented. Heat evolution of concrete was studied by measuring the temperature increase in concrete under adiabatic curing condition. Characteristic of heat evolution of fly ash concrete was found to be strongly dependent on the replacement level of fly ash and dosage of superplasticizer used to maintain workability. It was also found that using fly ash as cement replacement resulted in a reduction on the maximum temperature rise. Increasing the replacement level of fly ash caused lower temperature rise in concrete. Superplasticizer caused a delay in peak temperature rise time; this is taken as an indicator that high-dosage superplasticizer used in concrete caused retardation in hydration of cement. Concretes having similar ingredients showed similar peak temperature rise whether they are superplasticized or not.  相似文献

Martensitic 12% chromium stainless steel is generally used for the manufacture of water vapour turbine blades. This material, under these environmental conditions, develops fatigue corrosion with failure as a result of the segregation of certain constituent elements such as phosphorus (P) and sulphur (S),[1–3] or the presence of some types of inclusions.[2–4] To be able to understand and explain these phenomena, in situ characterization of the fractured surfaces were performed for two types of samples: steel 1 as manufactured turbine material whose fracture mode is intergranular and steel 2 issued from last stage turbine blades after 100 000 h service at 40 °C whose fracture mode is transgranular. The techniques used for characterization were scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with the x-ray analysis by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and auger electron spectroscopy (AES). The Auger results enabled the understanding of the brittle to ductile transition for the material by showing the simultaneous diffusion of carbon from grain boundaries (GB) to grains (G) and chromium from G to GB. Furthermore, the heavy segregation of phosphorus at the GBs could explain the intergranular crack rupture traces observed in steel 2. SEM observations coupled with EDS analysis showed the presence of different types of non-metallic inclusions such as silicon-based complex inclusions and manganese sulfides (MnS). The presence of silicon-based complex inclusions at GB could explain the intergranular fracture mode previously reported. The characterization of the fracture appearance suggests also that MnS inclusions can act as nucleation sites for secondary microcracks at the GB level that were observed after service.  相似文献

Electromagnetic wideband absorption is still perceived as a critical and formidable challenge to address with an unambiguous photonic absorber. Subwavelength metamaterial (MM) unit cells with unique and controlled features have recently gained considerable interest. However, meta-atoms, generated using a quantum-inspired pattern distribution, are underwhelming in existing literature to design photonic absorbers and their potential application to manufacture solar sails is still quite uncommon. In this article, to create a flexible, polarization-insensitive, ultrathin, and broadband MM absorber, quantum interference pattern-inspired design is utilized. Herein, a novel approach to fabricating solar sails for the space exploration incorporates the proposed broadband photonic absorber rather than conventional reflectors. The quantum-inspired meta-absorber (QIMA) exhibits an absorption of over 91% for the visible domain, i.e., 380–800 nm under a conventional plane-polarized source. It is shown in the study that broadband absorbers are almost equivalent to excellent reflectors to design the solar sails in terms of the time-averaged force calculated by utilizing the Maxwell stress tensor method. Thus, the QIMA has the potential to be a viable alternative to reflectors in the design of futuristic solar sails for space exploration. The interference theory model is also utilized to assure the dependability of calculated data, and additionally, the standard AM1.5 solar spectrum is utilized to demonstrate the QIMA's solar-harvesting potentiality.  相似文献

This work is focused on the study of combined heat and mass transfer or double-diffusive convection near a vertical truncated cone embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium in the presence of thermal radiation, magnetic field and variable viscosity effects. The viscosity of the fluid is assumed to be an inverse linear function of the fluid temperature. A boundary-layer analysis is employed to derive the non-dimensional governing equations. The governing equations for this investigation are transformed into a set of non-similar equations and solved numerically using the fourth-order Runge–Kutta integration scheme with the Newton–Raphson shooting technique. Comparisons with previously published work on special cases of the problem are performed and the results are found to be in excellent agreement. A parametric study illustrating the influence of the radiation parameter, magnetic field parameter, viscosity-variation parameter, buoyancy ratio and the Lewis number on the fluid velocity, temperature and solute concentration profiles as well as the Nusselt number and Sherwood number is conducted. The results of this parametric study are shown graphically and the physical aspects of the problem are highlighted and discussed.  相似文献

The testicular excurrent duct system undergoes several physiological and morphological changes during the reproductive stage or breeding season in mammals, birds, and reptiles. Studies on normal age-related histomorphological changes in the excurrent duct system of Japanese quails (Coturnix japonica) remain unreported, despite the extensive use of this bird as an avian model in research studies. The current study investigated the histological, ultrastructural, and histometric changes in the testicular excurrent duct system of the Japanese quail during three reproductive stages, namely prepubertal, pubertal, and adult. Simple squamous to low cuboidal cells formed the epithelia of the rete testis in prepubertal and pubertal birds, while in adult birds the lining was low cuboidal to cuboidal. In pubertal and adult birds, the nonciliated Type I epithelial cells of the proximal efferent duct displayed a subapical endocytotic apparatus comprising coated pits, coated apical tubules, and endosomes. There was a significant increase (p ≤ .001) in epithelial heights of all ducts of the excurrent duct system in the mature, sexually active, adult birds when compared to the other age groups. The luminal and tubular diameters, and the cross-sectional areas of efferent ducts and the epididymal duct unit increased significantly (p ≤ .001) with age. It is concluded that the morphology and morphometry of the excurrent ducts of the testis of the Japanese quail change as birds mature.  相似文献

The recharging technique by thermal spraying offers the opportunity of renovating the worn surface parts of a machine element to give it again a new technical life despite its previous degradation in service. This process has consequently interesting economic impacts. In order to improve the adherence between 100Cr6 steel deposits and the substrate material (left worn crankshafts), company SNC ATRA of Béjaïa uses at present a composite formed by (100Cr6 steel/molybdenum bond coat of 0.2 mm thick/crankshaft substrate). As a matter of fact, it is shown in the present work that the molybdenum bond coat is not appropriate since, for the 0.2 mm thickness, lateral cracks are observed in the middle of the bond coat. On the other hand, our experiment is that a deposit of 100Cr6 steel projected directly on the substrate seems more promising since no gaps or cracks were detected at the “deposit/substrate” interface of this two-material composite. Lastly, phase analysis using X-ray diffraction confirmed that during spraying process, a stable -phase (bcc) of 100Cr6 wire was transformed to a new phase of γ-phase (fcc). The coatings exhibited the higher microhardness which would contribute to increase wear resistance.  相似文献

The development of new binders, as an alternative to traditional cement, by the alkaline activation of industrial by-products (i.e. ground granulated slag and fly ash) is an ongoing research topic in the scientific community [Puertas F, Amat T, Jimenez AF, Vazquez T. Mechanical and durable behaviour of alkaline cement mortars reinforced with polypropylene fibres. Cem Concr Res 2003;33(12): 2031–6]. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using and alkaline activated ground Turkish slag to produce a mortar without Portland cement (PC).Following the characterization of the slag, mortar specimens made with alkali-activated slag were prepared. Three different activators were used: liquid sodium silicate (LSS), sodium hydroxide (SH) and sodium carbonate (SC) at different sodium concentrations. Compressive and flexural tensile strength of alkali-activated slag mortar was measured at 7-days, 28-days and 3-months. Drying shrinkage of the mortar was measured up to 6-months. Setting times of the alkali-activated slag paste and PC paste were also measured.Setting times of LSS and SH activated slag pastes were found to be much slower than the setting time of PC paste. However, slag paste activated with SC showed similar setting properties to PC paste.LSS, SH and SC activated slag mortar developed 81, 29, and 36 MPa maximum compressive strengths, and 6.8, 3.8, and 5.3 MPa maximum flexural tensile strengths at 28-days. PC mortar developed 33 MPa compressive strength and 5.2 MPa flexural tensile strength. LSS and SH activated slag mortars were found to be more brittle than SC activated slag and PC mortars.Slag mortar made with LSS had a high drying shrinkage, up to six times that of PC mortar. Similarly, slag mortar made with SH had a shrinkage up to three times that of PC mortar. However, SC activated slag mortar had a lower or comparable shrinkage to PC mortar. Therefore, the use of SC as an activator for slag mortar is recommended, since it results in adequate strength, similar setting times to PC mortar and comparable or lower shrinkage.  相似文献
