CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) is well known to have colossal dielectric constant in the range of 105. However, CCTO has considerably high dielectric loss values (tanδ > 0.1) at room temperature and 1 kHz. In this work, addition of glass to CCTO was suggested in order to improve its dielectric properties. The effect of V2O5–TeO2 (VT) glass addition on microstructure and dielectric properties of CCTO ceramics were investigated. Dielectric measurements were carried out for (1 ? x) CCTO-(x) V2O5–TeO2 (x = 0, 0.03, 0.05, 0.10) samples in the frequency range of 102–106 Hz using impedance spectrometer. Electron micrographs showed that low melting VT glass addition facilitated the grain growth of CCTO. As VT glass amount increased, dielectric constant decreased. The drop, though within reasonable values (~105), may related to the presence of grain boundary glassy phase which itself has low dielectric constant. However, the dielectric loss of the composite has decreased after VT glass addition. The low melting V2O5–TeO2 glass aided in liquid phase sintering and improved the grain boundary resistance which resulted in decreased leakage currents.  相似文献

Effects of solvent and supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) extraction on antioxidant and cytotoxic activities of lycopene-rich fractions of decanted pink guava by-product (decanter) were determined with lycopene-equivalent antioxidant capacity, β-carotene bleaching and MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assays. Extraction with SC-CO2 gave a higher yield than solvent extraction (3.15 vs. 0.68 mg/100 g dried decanter, corresponding to 42.99 and 33.63 mg of lycopene). No cytotoxicity was found in Chang liver cells supplemented with either extracts (6.25–200 μg/ml). Solvent extract at 25 μg/ml (2.32 μM lycopene) and SC-CO2 extract at 200 μg/ml (5.09 μM lycopene) had protective effect against hydrogen peroxide-induced cytotoxicity. However, only high concentrations of solvent extract (200 μg/ml; lycopene = 18.65 μM) or lycopene standard (10 μM) protected cells against DNA damage. Supercritical fluid extraction demonstrated a higher yield in lycopene-rich fraction from decanter. These fractions have the potential to be developed as a functional ingredient to prevent oxidative stress and other related diseases.  相似文献

Clarification of glycerin-rich solution is one of the potential applications of membrane within the oleochemical industry. However, one of the barriers in successfully utilizing the use of membranes such as ultrafiltration (UF) has been due to the fouling. In this work, flux decline during ultrafiltration of the glycerin-rich solutions was studied by using commercialized polymeric polyethersulphone (PES) membrane. Influence of fatty acids as foulants model (palmitic acid, stearic acid and oleic acid), pH of feed solution (3-10) and molecular weight cut-off (5 kDa, 20 kDa and 25 kDa) were analyzed. All the experiments were performed at constant pressure (2 bar) and temperature (40 °C). The Hermia's model was used to analyze the fouling mechanism during the flux decline which involve cake layer model due to adsorption of solute as well as pore blocking model. All the different types of flux decline kinetics were found to occur during the permeation of glycerin-rich solutions. However, the contribution of resistance due to cake layer formation was small for all the conditions studied. The fouling mechanisms were found to depend on the hydrophobicity of the PES membrane itself as well as the nature of foulants used in the study.  相似文献

This article reports the fabrication of three-dimensional porous chitosan and hydroxyapatite (HA)/chitosan composite scaffolds by the thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) technique, for bone tissue engineering. Different amounts of HA nanoparticles (10%, 20%, and 30% g/g) were added to the chitosan solution to produce HA/chitosan composite scaffolds of varying compositions. The morphology and pore structure of the scaffolds vis-à-vis composition were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and an energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). Both pure chitosan and HA/chitosan composite scaffolds were highly porous and had interconnected pores. The pore sizes ranged from several micrometers to a few hundred micrometers. The HA nanoparticles were well dispersed and physically coexisted with chitosan in the composite scaffolds. However, some agglomeration of HA nanoparticles was observed on the surface of pore walls when a relatively large amount of HA was used. The composite 3D scaffolds are very promising for use in bone tissue engineering application.  相似文献

Oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) was pretreated by local plantation industry to increase the accessibility towards its fermentable sugars. This pretreatment process led to the formation of a dark sugar-rich molasses byproduct. The total carbohydrate content of the molasses was 9.7 g/L with 4.3 g/L xylose (C5H10O5). This pentose-rich molasses was fed as substrate for biohydrogen production using locally isolated Clostridium butyricum KBH1. The effect of initial pH and substrate concentration on the yield and productivity of hydrogen production were investigated in this study. The best result for the fermentation performed in 70 mL working volume was obtained at the initial reaction condition of pH 9, 150 rpm, 37 °C and 5.9 g/L total carbohydrate. The maximum hydrogen yield was 1.24 mol H2/mol pentose and the highest productivity rate achieved was 0.91 mmol H2/L/h. The optimal pH at pH 9 was slightly unusual due to the presence of inhibitors, mainly furfural. The furfural content decreased proportionally as pH was increased. The optimal experiment condition was repeated and continued in fermentation volume of 200 mL. The maximum hydrogen yield found for this run was 1.21 mol H2/mol pentose while the maximum productivity was 1.1 mmol H2/L/h. The major soluble metabolites in the fermentation were n-butyric acid and acetic acid.  相似文献

Ultrafiltration (UF) is an alternative option that can be used to clarify glycerin-rich solutions in the oleochemical industry. However, the UF membranes used in the process were observed to have been seriously fouled in our preliminary study. Thus, the ultrafiltration of a glycerol-water-fatty acid mixture was carried out to investigate the membrane binding properties of the components and their contributions to membrane fouling. Palmitic, stearic, and oleic acid were used as fouling substances in the glycerol-water mixture. The flux decline experiments were carried out using polyvinylidenefluoride (PVDF) as well as polyethersulphone (PES) membranes with a MWCO of 30 and 25 kDa, respectively at specific conditions (T = 40 °C; ΔP = 2 bar). It was found that the PES membrane exhibited severe fouling for all types of fatty acids in solution with glycerol-water. As the pH decreased to acidic conditions, the PES membrane tended to exhibit more severe fouling than the PVDF membrane.  相似文献
