Peel oil of Citrus nobilis (Lour) was analyzed for determining its chemical composition. Fourteen identified components accounted for 99.1% (GC) and 100.0% (FID) of the total oil. Major component of the oil was limonene (76.8%-GC and 86.2%-FID). Essential oil was also evaluated for its antioxidant activity in four complementary test systems namely; β-carotene/linoleic acid, DPPH radical scavenging, reducing power and metal chelating activities. In the first system, antioxidant activity increased with the increasing concentration. At 20.0 mg.ml?1 concentration, antioxidant property of the oil was 96.8% ± 0.2 and as strong as the positive controls BHT and α-tocopherol. Scavenging effect of the oil was superior to the positive controls BHT and α-tocopherol at 1.5 mg.ml?1 concentration (96.4% ± 0.1). Reducing power and chelating effect of the essential oil increased with the increasing concentration.  相似文献

This study was designed to examine the in vitro antioxidant activities of the methanol extracts of six Salvia species [Salvia caespitosa Montbret & Aucher ex Bentham (ENDEMIC), Salvia hypargeia Fisch. & Mey. (ENDEMIC), Salvia euphratica subsp. euphratica Montbret & Aucher ex Bentham (ENDEMIC), Salvia sclarea L., Salvia candidissima subsp. candidissima Montbret & Aucher ex Bentham and Salvia aethiopis L.] from Turkey. The extracts were screened for their possible antioxidant activities by two complementary test systems, namely DPPH free radical-scavenging and β-carotene/linoleic acid systems. Non-polar subfractions of the methanol extracts of Salvia species studied did not show any antioxidant activity in both test systems. In the first case, the most active plant was S. euphratica subsp. euphratica, an endemic species, with an IC50 value of 20.7 ± 1.22 μg/ml, followed by S. sclarea (IC50 = 23.4 ± 0.97 μg/ml) among the polar subfractions. In the β-carotene/linoleic acid test system, polar extract of S. hypargeia was superior to the polar extracts of other Salvia species studied (69.2% ± 1.90%). This activity was followed by S. sclarea with 63.5% ± 4.24% inhibition rate. The inhibition rate of the synthetic antioxidant, buthylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), was also determined to be 96%. Since the polar extracts of Salvia species dealt with here exhibited excellent antioxidant activities when compared to BHT, it seems possible to keep perishable fat-containing food longer by direct addition of an extract of sage.  相似文献

Five extracts from five plants, of which four are endemic to Turkish flora, were screened for their possible in vitro antioxidant activities by two complementary test systems, namely DPPH free radical-scavenging and β-carotene/linoleic acid. In the first case, Pelargonium endlicherianum extract exerted greater antioxidant activity than those of other plant extracts studied with an IC50 value of 7.43 ± 0.47 μg/ml, followed by Hieracium cappadocicum (30.0 ± 0.14 μg/ml). When compared to the synthetic antioxidant BHT (18.0 ± 0.40 μg/ml), the methanolic extract of P. endlicherianum exhibited more than two fold greater antioxidant activity. In the β-carotene/linoleic acid test system, the most active plant was P. endlicherianum with 72.6% ± 2.96 inhibition rate, followed by H. cappadocicum (55.1% ± 2.33) and Verbascum wiedemannianum (52.5% ± 3.11). Antioxidant activities of curcumin and ascorbic acid were also determined as positive controls in parallel experiments.  相似文献

This study was designed to evaluate antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of the essential oil and methanol extract from Mentha longifolia ssp. longifolia. The essential oil showed strong antimicrobial activity against all 30 microorganisms tested whereas the methanol extract almost remained inactive. In contrast, the extract showed much better activity than the essential oil in antioxidant activity assays employed, e.g. in the inhibition of free radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and β-carotene/linoleic acid systems. In the former, the extract was able to reduce the stable free radical DPPH with an IC50 of 57.4 μg/ml while that of the oils was 10 700 μg/ml. When compared to BHT, a synthetic antioxidant, both showed weaker antioxidative potential. Similarly, in β-carotene/linoleic acid assay, these samples were not effectively able to inhibit the linoleic acid oxidation; exhibiting only 24% and 36% inhibitions at 2 mg/ml, respectively; both were far below than that of BHT. Total phenolic constituent of the extract was 4.5 g/100 g as gallic acid equivalent. GC–MS analysis of the oil resulted in the identification of 45 constituents, cis-piperitone epoxide, pulegone and piperitenone oxide being the main components.  相似文献

The present work examines the in vitro antioxidant properties of the essential oil and various extracts prepared from the herbal parts of Ferula orientalis A. (Apiaceae). The highest 2,2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging activity was found in the polar extract, e.g. methanol–water (1:1), obtained from non-deodorised materials with IC50 values at 99.1 μg/ml. In the β-carotene/linoleic acid assay, the deodorised acetone extract exhibited stronger activity than the polar one. The relative antioxidant activities (RAA%) of the extracts ranged from 10.1% to 76.1%, respectively. Extraction with methanol–water (1:1) mixture was concluded to be the most appropriate method in terms of higher extract yield, as well as effectiveness, observed in both assays. Although the essential oil showed antioxidative potential, it was not as strong as that of positive control (BHT). GC/MS analysis of the essential oil resulted in the identification of 39 compounds, β-phellandrene (23.6%), (E)-β-ocimene (13.8%), α-pinene (12.5%), α-phellandrene (11.5%) and dehydro-sesquicineole (10.1%) being the major components.  相似文献

This paper presents the transient behavior during off-normal operation of an unconventional liquid metal reactor design, called the Trench Reactor. Under the postulated accident conditions, this reactor design responds in an inherently safe manner to loss of heat sink accidents, loss of flow accidents, overcooling accidents and transient overpower accidents with 25 cents of reactivity insertion. The characteristics that cause such inherently save behavior are the properties of the materials and the configuration of the reactor primary system, even without any activated safety devices.  相似文献

This study was designed to examine the in vitro antioxidant activities of the methanol extracts of four Helichrysum species (Helichrysum noeanum Boiss., H. chionophilum Boiss. & Bal., H. plicatum DC. subsp. plicatum, H. arenarium (L.) Moench. subsp. aucheri (Boiss.) Davis & Kuphicha). The extracts were screened for their possible antioxidant activitiy by two complementary test systems, namely DPPH free radical-scavenging and β-carotene/linoleic acid systems. In the first case, non-polar subfractions of the methanol extracts of Helichrysum species studied did not show any antioxidant activity, while the most active one was H. chionophilum (IC50 =40.5 μg/ml) among the polar subfractions. In the β-carotene/linoleic acid test system, inhibition rates of the oxidation of linoleic acid of H. noeanum and H. arenarium were very close to each other. The inhibition rate of the synthetic antioxidant BHT was determined to be 96%. Since the polar extracts of Helichrysum species dealt with here exhibited interesting antioxidant activities when compared to BHT, we believe that it would be useful to take the results into consideration as an alternative for food processing industries.  相似文献

This study was designed to examine the chemical composition and in vitro antioxidant activity of the essential oil and various extracts (hexane, dichloromethane and methanol sub-fractions) of Nepeta flavida. GC and GC–MS analyses of the essential oil resulted in the identification of 68 compounds, representing 96.4% of the oil; 1,8-cineole (38.9%) and linalool (25.1%) were the main components, comprising 64.0% of the total oil. The samples were subjected to a screening for their possible antioxidant activities by using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and β-carotene-linoleic acid assays. In the first case, the IC50 value of the N. flavida essential oil was determined to be 42.8 ± 2.19 μg/ml. Among the extracts, the strongest activity was exhibited by the polar sub-fraction of the methanol extract with an IC50 value of 63.2 ± 1.75 μg/ml. In the β-carotene-linoleic acid system, N. flavida essential oil exhibited 86.3% ± 1.69 inhibition against linoleic acid oxidation. Among the extracts prepared with various solvents, a correlation was observed between the polarity and antioxidant activity. The extracts exhibited the same activity pattern in this system the most active one is the polar sub-fraction, 79.7% ± 0.89. On the other hand, 1,8-cineole, a major compound of the essential oil, exhibited marked antioxidant activity in both systems, whereas the other compound, linalool, did not show any activity. The amount of total phenolics was highest in the polar and non-polar sub-fractions. Particularly, a positive correlation was observed between the total phenolic content and the antioxidant activity of the extracts. As estimated from the results, amounts of phenolic compounds were less in hexane and dichloromethane extracts than in the others. In conclusion, antioxidant potentials of polar and non-polar methanol sub-fractions could be attributed to their high phenolic contents. In both systems, antioxidant capacities of BHT, ascorbic acid, curcumin and α-tocopherol were also determined in parallel experiments.  相似文献

GC–MS analysis of the oil resulted in the identification of 40 compounds, representing 99.4% of the oil; thymol (38.9%), γ-terpinene (29.6%) and p-cymene (9.1%) were the main components. The samples were subjected to a screening for their possible antioxidant activity by using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and β-carotene-linoleic acid assays. In the first case, IC50 value of the C. vulgare essential oil was determined as 63.0 ± 2.71 μg/ml. IC50 value of thymol and γ-terpinene, the major compounds of the oil, was determined as 161 ± 1.3 μg/ml and 122 ± 2.5 μg/ml, respectively, whereas p-cymene did not show antioxidant activity. In β-carotene-linoleic acid system, C. vulgare essential oil exhibited 52.3 ± 1.19% inhibition against linoleic acid oxidation. In both systems, antioxidant capacities of BHT, curcumine and ascorbic acid were also determined in parallel experiments.  相似文献

This study was designed to examine the in vitro antioxidant activities of the essential oil and methanol extracts of Satureja spicigera and S. cuneifolia from Turkish flora. GC and GC/MS analysis of the essential oils resulted in the identification of 40 and 29 compounds, representing the 99.4% and 99.5% of the oils, respectively. Major constituents of the oils were carvacrol (42.5% and 67.1%), γ-terpinene (21.5% and 15.2%) and p-cymene (20.9% and 6.7%), respectively. Methanol extracts were also obtained from the aerial parts of the plants. The samples were subjected to a screening for their possible antioxidant activities by using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and β-carotene–linoleic acid assays. In general, samples obtained from S. cuneifolia exerted greater antioxidant activities than did those obtained from S. spicigera. In the DPPH test system, free radical-scavenging activity of S. spicigera oil was determined to be 127 ± 1.63 μg/ml, whereas IC50 value of S. cuneifolia was 89.1 ± 2.29 μg/ml. In the β-carotene–linoleic acid test system, antioxidant activities of the oil were 81.7 ± 1.14% and 93.7 ± 1.83%, respectively. Antioxidant activities of the synthetic antioxidant, BHT, ascorbic acid, curcumin and α-tocopherol were also determined in parallel experiments.  相似文献
