BACKGROUND: On the basis of a flowchart including prior or current jaundice or pancreatitis, abnormal liver function, ultrasound or IV cholangiography, bile duct (BD) stones were suspected in 71/593 patients referred for gallstones. METHODS: When endoscopic retrograde cholangiography detected BD stones, endoscopic sphincterotomy (ES) and endoscopic BD clearance were attempted, followed by laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). BD stones were found in 44/71 patients. The sensitivity values of preoperative conditions were: 92% for IV cholangiography, 88% for abnormal liver function, 50% for ultrasound, and 37% for jaundice at admission. RESULTS: Endoscopic clearance succeeded in 37 patients and LC was completed in 33 patients. Conversion to open surgery (9%) was comparable with the rate in patients without BD stones. The median hospital stay for the sequential endoscopic and laparoscopic treatments was 13 days (range 4-54) or 22 days if open surgery was used. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, BD stones can be endoscopically cleared preoperatively in most patients without interfering with LC. 相似文献

The generation of direct current electricity using solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) involves several interplaying transport phenomena. Their simulation is crucial for the design and optimization of reliable and competitive equipment, and for the eventual market deployment of this technology. An open-source library for the computational modeling of mass-transport phenomena in SOFCs is presented in this article. It includes several multicomponent mass-transport models (i.e. Fickian, Stefan–Maxwell and Dusty Gas Model), which can be applied both within porous media and in porosity-free domains, and several diffusivity models for gases. The library has been developed for its use with OpenFOAM®, a widespread open-source code for fluid and continuum mechanics. The library can be used to model any fluid flow configuration involving multicomponent transport phenomena and it is validated in this paper against the analytical solution of one-dimensional test cases. High-purity nanocrystalline aluminum nitride powders were synthesized by using a 12?kW non-transferred arc plasma. The synthesis was conducted in a versatile, new designed, one-chamber thermal plasma reactor (TPR). The novel experimental assembly incorporated better working conditions like: high temperature gradient between the crucible and reactor's wall, and high super-saturation of the system by nitrogen and carbon. Thermodynamic modelling of the synthesis was conducted in order to achieve the best conditions for AlN formation. In this study, aluminum discs of Al 1100 were used as precursor material and pure nitrogen was the only gas used as reagent and plasmogenic gas.Nanopowders collected from reactor's wall were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-Ray diffraction (XRD). Synthesized h-AlN nano-powders were found to be free of oxides and aluminum metal. A thin carbon-layer around the particles was detected. TEM results indicated that the carbon-layer was around 5 and 10?nm. This outcome could make a significant difference with other synthesis reported in the literature since the occurrence of the carbon-layer, could delay AlN oxidation, prevent hydration, and could avoid the agglomeration of the particles. 相似文献

This paper investigates the research profiles, collaboration patterns and research topic trends which can be identified in the proposals submitted to the ECHORD (European Clearing House for Open Robotics Development) FP7 project. On a country level, clusters were identified and characterized by patterns of proposal production per inhabitant, score and international cooperation. Belgium and Sweden constitute a cluster characterized by high proposal production, with very high scores and extensive international collaboration. Belgium also excels from another cluster analysis, being as the only country where 100% of proposals involve industry–academia cooperation and obtain scores above 10. Other findings show that single partner proposals have significantly lower quality than multi-partner proposals but, on the other hand, the number of countries involved shows no influence on the quality of the proposals. Despite the high number of industrial participants present on the proposals, it is observed that they play secondary roles in the proposals, with a very low number projects leaded by companies. Also, it is observed that partnerships between research institutions (non-universities) are the most successful. Concerning topics of the proposals, the technology human–robot interface and the product vision robot for small-scale manufacturing are the most significant. Finally, the paper shows clusters of institutions extracted from the giant network of relations obtained from the ECHORD set of proposals. 相似文献

Vinylene-linked donor–acceptor–donor semiconducting polymers have been prepared by electropolymerization of the new monomers 2,6-bis[(E)-2-(1-methylpyrrol-2-yl)vinyl]pyridine and 2,5-bis[(E)-2-(1-methylpyrrol-2-yl)vinyl]pyridine. The monomers, consisting of two pyrrole donor units and a central pyridine acceptor ring spaced by vinylene links, differ by the substitution pattern around the central pyridine core (2,6 vs. 2,5-substitution). The electropolymerization process is more efficient on the 2,5-derivative. The new polymers show reversible electrochemistry dominated by a strong charge trapping effect. Poly(2,5-bis[(E)-2-(1-methylpyrrol-2-yl)vinyl]pyridine) energy levels closely match those of design rules for optimized polymers in combination with fullerene derivatives in bulk heterojunction solar cells. 相似文献

Due to the widespread use of cyanide in mining operations, its recovery and destruction is important for both the environmental aspects of wastewater and its treatment, and the economic aspects associated with the high consumption of chemicals by the process itself. A photoelectrocatalytic detoxification technique with titanium dioxide microelectrodes is one of the most innovative ways for the treatment of wastewater containing cyanide. However, this technique has a disadvantage for industrial application in that the separation of titanium dioxide after the photocatalytic degradation of cyanide is rather difficult due to the fineness of the particles, and therefore, the reuse of the titanium dioxide has not been attained for the treatment of cyanide‐containing wastewater. To overcome this weak point, an electrocoagulation (EC) technique is used to recover the titanium dioxide from its aqueous suspensions. The results show that photodegradation of cyanide is 93 % in 30 min using a 450 W halogen lamp. The recovery of anatase with the EC process is 98 %. The results indicate that this technique has the potential to serve as a reliable and economical method because sunlight can be used efficiently as the power source. The Langmuir isotherm is used to obtain the thermodynamic parameters, i.e., free energy, enthalpy and entropy. The evaluation of these parameters, i.e., ΔG° = –37 kJ/mol, ΔH° = –54 kJ/mol and ΔS° = 0.524 kJ/mol K, indicates the spontaneous and exothermic nature of the adsorption of the anatase particles on the iron species. 相似文献

We studied the molar ratio effects of niobium and potassium precursors on the structure and morphology of potassium niobate powders prepared via microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis (MaHS). KNbO3 nanostructures in the form of nanotowers and nanocubes were obtained at reduced synthesis times (30–240 min). The products were characterized via XRD, Raman spectroscopy, SEM, and TEM; band gap calculations used diffuse reflectance data. The results indicate that KNbO3 nanostructures were obtained with crystallite sizes ranging from 33 to 52 nm. An orthorhombic crystalline structure was formed from the increase of KOH at a molar ratio Nb2O5:KOH (1:8 to 1:16 M). The band-gap of 3.1–3.3 eV has potential use in photodegradation applications. 相似文献

Adaptation allows biological sensory systems to adjust to variations in the environment and thus to deal better with them. In this article, we propose a general framework of sensory adaptation. The underlying principle of this framework is the setting of internal parameters of the system such that certain prespecified tasks can be performed optimally. Because sensorial inputs vary probabilistically with time and biological mechanisms have noise, the tasks could be performed incorrectly. We postulate that the goal of adaptation is to minimize the number of task errors. This minimization requires prior knowledge of the environment and of the limitations of the mechanisms processing the information. Because these processes are probabilistic, we formulate the minimization with a Bayesian approach. Application of this Bayesian framework to the retina is successful in accounting for a host of experimental findings. 相似文献
