Direct utilisation of biomass for energy application is less profound due to the problems of low calorific value, high water content, and low grindability of biomass. For this reason, pre-heating treatment, sometimes called torrefaction, is necessary to improve the physical properties of biomass similar to ‘coal-like’ material. Unfortunately, only few comprehensive but simple theoretical models focused on hard-wood biomass were available to describe the torrefaction process. In this discussion, a simple proposed torrefaction model was developed and reported. The model has ability to estimate the yield of product mass and energy after the torrefaction process and determine the optimum conditions.  相似文献

ADAM17 is a disintegrin and metalloproteinase capable of cleaving the ectodomains of a diverse variety of molecules including TNF-α, TGF-α, L-selectin, and ACE2. We have previously demonstrated that renal ADAM17 is upregulated in diabetic mice. The role of endothelial (eAdam17) and proximal tubular (tAdam17) Adam17 deletion in renal histology, modulation of the renin angiotensin system (RAS), renal inflammation, and fibrosis was studied in a mouse model of type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. Moreover, the effect of Adam17 deletion in an in vitro 3D cell culture from human proximal tubular cells under high glucose conditions was evaluated. eAdam17 deletion attenuates renal fibrosis and inflammation, whereas tAdam17 deletion decreases podocyte loss, attenuates the RAS, and decreases macrophage infiltration, α-SMA and collagen accumulation. The 3D in vitro cell culture reinforced the findings obtained in tAdam17KO mice with decreased fibrosis in the Adam17 knockout spheroids. In conclusion, Adam17 deletion either in the endothelial or the tubular cells mitigates kidney injury in the diabetic mice by targeting different pathways. The manipulation of Adam17 should be considered as a therapeutic strategy for treating DN.  相似文献

1 Scope

Shellfish allergy is an increasing global health priority, frequently affecting adults. Molluscs are an important shellfish group causing food allergy but knowledge of their allergens and cross‐reactivity is limited. Optimal diagnosis of mollusc allergy enabling accurate advice on food avoidance is difficult. Allergens of four frequently ingested Asia‐Pacific molluscs are characterized: Sydney rock oyster (Saccostrea glomerata), blue mussel (Mytilus edulis), saucer scallop (Amusium balloti), and southern calamari (Sepioteuthis australis), examining cross‐reactivity between species and with blue swimmer crab tropomyosin, Por p 1.

2 Methods and results

IgE ELISA showed that cooking increased IgE reactivity of mollusc extracts and basophil activation confirmed biologically relevant IgE reactivity. Immunoblotting demonstrated strong IgE reactivity of several proteins including one corresponding to heat‐stable tropomyosin in all species (37–40 kDa). IgE‐reactive Sydney rock oyster proteins were identified by mass spectrometry, and the novel major oyster tropomyosin allergen was cloned, sequenced, and designated Sac g 1 by the IUIS. Oyster extracts showed highest IgE cross‐reactivity with other molluscs, while mussel cross‐reactivity was weakest. Inhibition immunoblotting demonstrated high cross‐reactivity between tropomyosins of mollusc and crustacean species.

3 Conclusion

These findings inform novel approaches for reliable diagnosis and improved management of mollusc allergy.  相似文献

Sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) (SPAES‐F series) membranes, which are partially fluorinated multiblock polymers containing Bisphenol 6F (6F‐BPA), are synthesized. The membranes exhibit less water uptake and higher ion conductivity at similar ion exchange capacity (IEC) values compared to previous SPAES membranes containing identical hydrophilic blocks. This is attributed to the presence of 6F‐BPA in the hydrophobic block, which enhances hydrophobicity and promotes phase separation, as observed through transmission electron microscopy analysis. F4 (IEC = 2.4 meq g?1) shows superior ion conductivity than Nafion NRE212 membrane irrespective of the humidity level. Furthermore, the SPAES electrolyte membrane of 1.5 meq g?1 produces better performance than NRE212, yielding a current density of 488 mA cm?2 at 80 °C, 80% RH, and 0.6 V. In 50% RH at 80 °C, SPAES with 1.5 meq g?1 exhibits a cell resistance and fuel cell performance comparable to those of NRE212; clearly, regulating hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity is crucial for enhanced performance.  相似文献

We are testing the compatibilization of the chitosan/PLA blends by addition of diisocyanate and at studying the effect of several MDI concentrations (0.5 and 2.5% of the global blend mass, w/w). To evaluate the MDI efficiency as a compatibilizer of chitosan/PLA blends, we worked with the following methods: IRTF spectra with higher peak at 1558 cm−1 is due to the  NH bonds that exist in urea and urethane, thermal properties shows that the temperature of the endothermic peaks of the chitosan/PLA blends with MDI is very close to the temperature of pure chitosane and SEM micrography shows that MDI addition decreases the PLA particles size in the chitosan mixture; they also comply with the compatibilization theory. After that the mechanical properties have been characterized: we can notice that the MDI compatibilized chitosan/PLA blends have a higher Young's modulus than the noncompatibilized blends. we are showed that the use of 0.5% MDI is not enough sufficient to obtain a compatibilization, because a part of the MDI can be consumed by water. The addition of MDI increases the performance of the mechanical properties of the blends. Therefore, with this compatibilization, we could obtain some chitosan/PLA blends that would be water‐resistant and that would also keep their mechanical properties. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The bond-stretching phonon modes of linear polyynes with hydrogen atom termination at the both ends are calculated as a function of chain length within the density functional theory. The frequency of one of two particular Raman active phonon modes monotonically decreases with the increase of polyyne chain length while that of the other one shows an oscillating behavior, consistent with previous Raman measurements. The relative Raman intensity of the two phonon modes are evaluated by optimized geometries for ground states and excited states. We also present a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) calculation for spin–spin coupling constants as a function of distance between hydrogen and carbon-13 nuclei and, within carbon-13 nuclei, up to the polyyne center of symmetry. We compare the calculated results with recent NMR experiments.  相似文献
